    Just went to the end of the video to see the teamsheet and SHOCK, HORROR, George has only picked 1 player from the pro age.
    Who could've predicted that!!
    I wonder how many modern actors or movies would get on George's All Time Greats list?!?!?

    Rugby was at its best back then. Moss Keane would knock back 10 pints in Landsdowne on a wednesday night after training and could play an international the following saturday. Duggan was as hard as they get but if he played in this era he would spend half his career sitting in the sin bin. He cost Ireland some matches. Opponents knew when to pull his strings and he gave away quite a few costly penalties if memory serves me correctly.

      Shane Horgan was a centre - never a wing. And never in Geoghegan's class. No speed, no knackery.
      Tomás O'Leary ? Displacing Patterson ? 🔫
      Heaslip would be outrun by Goodall and outboxed by Duggan.
      J. O'Driscoll ? More concerned with his medical career.
      P. O'Connell - agree strongly !
      Hayes ? No way.
      Wood ? No way. Missed too many throws.

    • @rampageclover9788
      @rampageclover9788 3 месяца назад

      @@benzflynn - Horgan could cover No. 11 through 14. Big utility back, one of the first 6’ 4”, 16st powerhouses in the back line. Geoghegan is nowhere near his league…
      O’Leary was outstanding for Munster and in that 09’ grand slam team.
      J. O’Driscoll is one of the few who could play in this era. Duggan if he packed in the fags, booze and looked after himself maybe could give Heaslip a run for his money but knowing his world-renowned stubbornness - unlikely. Don’t know much about Goodall other than switched codes…Hayes was the best tighthead in the world for about 5 years…Wood was maybe the only exciting thing about Irish rugby when it was in a decline…but thank you for stating your case - all the ones you mentioned were great in their own right

    Gibson must be Fly Half based on the years 1964 to 1968 before the selectors bottled it by picking McGann at Fly half and moving Gibson to centre. Gibson was a superior Fly Half to Kyle but he had insufficient support from the rest of the team.

    • @tollyt7465
      @tollyt7465 5 лет назад +3

      Gibson's problem was his versatility, which is why many regard him as the most complete player in history, but I think he was a better centre than a 10. Having said that, as long as he's in the team I wouldn't care.. He's my favorite player of all time, and I'm an old English hooker who loves Fester Wood, but Gibson was just special...

    • @dashing568
      @dashing568 4 года назад

      Paddy Mayne - second CO of the SAS, responsible for destroying more enemy aircraft than any other allied serviceman - including any pilot in the RAF, (I think) the most decorated allied soldier of WW II and should have been awarded the VC, Irish Universities heavyweight boxing champion two weeks after putting a glove on for the first time,, probably pathologically psychotic and intellectually acute - he’s the FIRST player I’d pick in any team - if you wanted someone in the trenches with you....

      I like your team.
      I'd swap in Nick Popplewell for Wallace; Willie Duggan for Francis; Simon Geohghan for Hickie.
      That'd be a another Ireland team to challenge my All Blacks.

    • @rampageclover9788
      @rampageclover9788 7 лет назад

      Francis was a second row who occasionally played No. 8 but I'll give you credit there for your inventiveness...However I'd put Philip Matthews or John O'Driscoll at 6 with Wallace on the bench ...great diverse player but he's not a pure open or blindside...he may have played there mainly for Ireland but he fluctuated a fair bit between 6-8 at Munster...Slattery was always at 7 (occasionally could slot in at 6...played there more toward the end because he didn't quite have the same speed and had to adapt to a more defensive game), Matthews and John O'Driscoll were always at 6...in my opinion, players that specialise and are brilliant in the one position are more effective than those that move around more...same with BOD...I don't ever remember see him in the No. 12 jersey, never for Ireland anyway
