    I disagree with #2 in that upstart allows you to be more consistent in setting up a control board. In a battle against a combo deck upstart can be the difference in seeing the right cards. Shrinking the deck backlog from 29-27 is pretty significant as is a 7% decrease in variance. Unless your deck is designed around dealing under 9000 for lethal or can lose card advantage like burn, Upstart is a boost in consistency that will win more games.

      I think is about preference cuz if for example if I wanna see something to control the duel and I use normally 3 PWWB I'd rather play 3 PWWB + 1 Raigeki break instead of 3 PWWB and upstart. But in case u are against control decks and u play 3 Royal Decree then of course upstart is amazing at 2 looking for that copy of royal decree u already maxed out. I think it's conditional and depends on how do u play ur deck and more important what's ur playstyle. That's what's gr8 about goat format.

      As someone who is partial to Blue-Eyes even in Goat Format, Upstart definitely depends on the deck. In my case, I don't care about giving my opponent an extra 1K or 2K LP if I can drop three colossal dragons that each have 3000ATK. Follow it up with a bit of protection and it's GG after just another turn or two. So yeah, Upstart does depend on the deck.

  • @Rayogami

    player A: 2300 LP 2 cards in hand
    player B: 1700 LP thunder dragon + upstart goblin
    Player B: activates upstart goblin, draws tomato, activate TD, attacks with tomato pass
    Player A: 2300 + 1000 = 3300 - 1400 = 1900 LP
    Player A: Draws DD warrior lady. Activates otherwise dead delinquent duo, activates otherwise dead premature targetting DDW lady. Summons the newly drew Breaker attack for game.
    LP is a huge resource, people in my city play upstart in control decks cuz they saw it been played in reasoning gate turbo at locals in a bigger city haha

    Another big one: using Graceful Charity when you don't at least have Sinister Serpent. Remember, the format is all about card advantage and patience; Grace without Serpent is a net neutral.
    In my Chaos Turbo deck I don't play Charity until I have Serpent and either a copy of Thunder Dragon or Night Assailant.

      Not just Sinister Serpent. Using Charity when you don't have 2 cards you want to pitch or don't need to dig for better cards is wasting charity's potential. Players usually fire Duo right away so if you hold Sinister Serpent longer you play around duo. And if you have Serpent but don't want to discard any other card holding charity is better.

      Would actually be great. From what I gather it comes down to a few points
      PWWB: doesn’t put monsters in grave for chaos, forces opponent to “not drAw”. Sometimes just puts the threat back on the deck and delays only for a turn
      RB: gets rid of threat fairly permanently, better against s/t, there are many anti-destroy cards

    I think the problem with sangan is just that it is not that great of a card vs CT. Because it cant deal (well) with any of their flips and they can basicly ignore it and it clogs up your field and your BK doesnt get its eff of

    • @GoatDuels
      @GoatDuels  3 года назад +2

      The only downside that Sangan has vs Skilled Dark Magician against a set monster is that it can't kill a set Dekoichi. However, it does attack into a set Night Assailant quite profitably. It does so without having to worry about Raigeki Break, Snatch Steal, Sakuretsu Armor, and so on. It also plays well with Torrential Tribute, which warriors typically maindeck. It allows you to add a second attacker to your board while not having to worry about your opponent's mass removal. And when it dies, it searches Mystic Swordsman LV2, which is actually the best monster vs a bunch of flip effects. A card doesn't have to be good in 100% of situations to be worth playing.

    • @VaeVictisCoD
      @VaeVictisCoD 3 года назад

      yeah, thats a fair statement. I think compared to SDM they are equally not impressive vs CT. SDM has the upside to pressure a bit more and to kill kycoo´s/ kinetic soldiers that some people still play vs warriors. Sangan has the "spell/ trap protection" thing. Both dont really help you win games I´d say.

    You sound like a good player, so I want to ask for your advice.
    I've been playing a lot of Recruiter Zombies in the past year (3 Rat, 3 Turtle, 2 Swap, 2 Skill Drain etc.). I'm on-and-off about BLS; it's the best monster in the format, but I only play 1 Light naturally (D.D. Warrior Lady) because MoF does not fit the beatdown gameplan, so I'd have to make suboptimal choices in other monsters to facilitate it (2 slots are Regenerating Mummies right now, so these can be freed up technically).
    I also have 1 free trap slot. Right now I am running 1 RB because I wanted a discard outlet, something chainable and removal in 1 card; you mentioned PWWB and in Chaos I absolutely prefer that, but since I need to get monsters into the opponent's GY for BoL I'm really on the fence about it. In a vacuum, PWWB is way better, but I'm not too sure about it with the specifics of my deck.
    Also, right now I'm siding 1 Injection Fairy Lily for going 2nd vs. Chaos and Aggro (side plan going 2nd is Skill Drain and the Solemns I play to protect it out and more aggro stuff in), do you think Cipher Soldier would be the better card for that use?
    Sorry for extremely long question(s).

      A good example of this comes up in my interview with Slashtap. He was super honest about it and simply said, "Testing PWWB wasn't worth my time." So he just played the tried and true Raigeki Break. See: ruclips.net/video/jNLc4hWXtNc/видео.html

    • @Chazzvc
      @Chazzvc 2 года назад

      It's actually an equal if you discard SS.
      you have 6 cards and set PWWB. your opponent goes and has 6 cards for turn 2 and summons a blade knight and attacks. You play PWWB sending it to the top of deck discarding SS. You have 4 cards opponent has 5. Next turn you draw and add SS back to hand giving you 6 cards. You went first so you will have a +1 in card advantage every time it's your turn. This means it's equal in terms of card advantage.
      It can be a +1 in cases where your opponent uses blind MST on your PWWB and you chain it to target sangan discarding SS. In this case your opponent lost 2 cards for the price of your 1

    They can hope they have a 2nd one next turn or they can hope you don't kill their board.
    Kuriboh doesn't fix any of those things.
    Not saying that I'm a fan of roar but the only time I can imagine you rather play Kuriboh is when you play the tomato engine and you can search one card off sangan before you get attacked for game.

      @@lonerforlife7680 No, Roar doesn't win you the game because your opponent hasn't overextended. They just pass turn and kill you on their following turn. This is the reason that the vast majority of top decklists don't side Roar anymore.

    Another mistake: Not playing snatch in aggro decks. The justification behind this is Snatch is easy to destroy, relinquishing control of the stolen monster back to its owner. So players argue snatch is only worth it if you can flip the monster face down or tribute it. However, any monster that's a worthy snatch target will have high attack or a good effect or both, so you are getting value out of it no matter what. Plus, Chaos decks are rampant in today's meta and snatch is the best out to Chaos Sorcerer behind smashing ground.

    I wanted to disagree just for the drama but all the arguments makes sense.
    I'll still drop some controversial opinion :
    - BLS is overrated in goat control. Forces you to play bad light monster. Goat control can be built way better without all those light (merchant,parshath,asura..). More versatile. better suited to the meta. Goat control is supposed to have access to everthing and being a swiss army knife. You can't be that if you're forced to play 6 bad light cards. If you're afraid of the drop in CA just play swap.
    - Brain control is a good card especially if you play tribute or/and swap. Nice combo and right now it's never dead. It deal with chaos monster and is very good in the endgame to make OTK. I see good player playing magic cylinder. brain control is way better any day of the week.
    - You should main deck mind control and side it game 2 and 3. Everybody see mind control coming game 2 and 3. But never game 1.
    - Finally don't care what you're on. Injection fairy lily is the nuts. Stop sleepping on the nurse.

Game changer card... #2 So true i won plenty matches when we both were on low LP and opponent drew Upstart oh thanks now i'm not in a tight spot anymore. #1 Those cards are so situational i played both and there are always situations i wish i had the other one so i'm not convinced any of em. Just few examples: opponent has BLS and i can chain Raigeki Break and get rid of it but had PWWB and i have to face it next turn again cuz has enough L/D, or i'm dying and i put back s/t on top redrew Ring of Dest and die. But yea on the other hand they summon a Parsath i use Raigeki Break to kill it then Call it back and still take everything or destryoing a face down Sinister Serpent from penty matches i don't feel any of them better or worse.
