Russell clearly should have won this with quality over quantity, by at least two points. "Do you like ear wax removal videos?" was so off the board compared to the mundane observations everyone else made.
I'm shocked Greg and Alex didn't have anything to say about the whole part about wanting to take a giant rancid shit when they die so someone has to clean it up
Having them shake hands after every task definitely shifted their mindsets from quality to quantity of questions which may have been why there was no actually cool things in common
Carol, the traffic warden, Rosalind, Peter the mayor and Fred the swede should be the contestants in a special who have to make tasks with famous comedians
Tbh I was expecting more eccentric questions from them. It'd be fun watching someone like Bob Mortimer doing this, going "What's your favorite meat?" or "Would you like to be able to fly?" and then maybe they'd have that in common. Tho Russell was close with "Do you like ear wax removal videos?" lmao.
Yeah, asking an old woman if she likes sewing and cooking isn't really what comes to mind for me when I think of trying to find remarkable things in common. "Do you like earwax removal videos" and "what's your death row meal" were more the types of questions I was expecting. Maybe stuff like "If you like Doctor Who, which Doctor is your favorite and which companion is your LEAST favorite", "what brand of toilet paper do you buy", "would you like to have a surgery that means you can eat as much food as you like without any negative consequences but in exchange all the food tastes half as good". Not "do you like cool shoes" or whatever.
I was disappointed in this task. I thought that the task would be that Carol was a total weirdo, and it was hard to find anything in common. I imagined Greg meeting this person and being like, hold on a minute! Pleasantly surprised though to find out actually it's russel who is absolutely batshit.
I have to imagine for "spirit of the game" reasons, the producers probably offscreen added rules about that. Certainly the player that thinks to ask "have you got at least one hair" and "have you got at least two hairs" and "have you got at least three hairs," etc. is going to win, but it doesn't make for very spirited competition.
This is a great "game" to "play" when you meet new people. Don't have anything to talk about? Just start asking questions and try to find something in common, anything.
For whatever reason, I haven't seen this one before, and it turned out to be a wonderful task; but Greg's judgement was bonkers. Clearly, Asim deserved last place with 1 point, and Russell deserved the win. That's obvious. I don't think Greg had only tea in his cup that day.
Ex-teachers who both wear colorful sneakers is very oddly specific and worth at least the top 2. Asim + Russell were the top 2, I don't see why you feel Asim was worse than, say, Tim or Lisa.
Ah yes, that task where Greg gave Asim the win just because he really wanted him to win an episode. I mean it's kind of nice in a way, and Asim's scapegoat-to-teacher's pet arc is one of my favourite things about series 6, but Russell 100% deserved this one
I love the idea of just "form a connection with this person" but my god the points in this one are wild. I feel like they straight up just changed the goalpost from most interesting to just most bc that's the only way I can imagine finding a niche interest and a birthday within a week of one another to be the lowest
Relatively one of the silly ones. Just get quantity by asking basic, we're older than 1, body parts etc. Get quality by asking top 10 eccentric things they've done and pick 1 you know more about. It's not like they would know you were lying.
Indeed. It was revealed in an earlier podcast/interview that they were tasks that majorly affected the score total by quite some margin. The closest one to them doubled their points total for the episode but the one further away divided it by half. So 20 points could've turned into 40 points total, IIRC. Basically seeing how far you can push your luck, although the five contestants couldn't look away from Carol so you would have to recognise them before the task started to get a clear indication of where they were.
@@CreativeC13 probably, there's a few things the show used to do but either dropped completely or rarely do after COVID (or the switch to Channel 4), including guests, tasks in public places and Greg filming the task intro videos. Every time I watch this task, I'm confused by Tim's bedding question. Do most people not have multiple sets of bedding, usually in different colours and patterns? I presume that Carol just parsed it as the colour of the set on her bed at the time the question was asked.
Lots of people have two of the same to switch between, if they've decorated a room and got bedding at the same time. Especially when asking just the colour.

@@hannahk1306 I think it really depends, but I certainly wouldn't say it's unheard of. But we've just finally (mid thirties) moved to a house where we're decorating, and we are buying a new king size bed instead of a double.
