  • This is the third installment in my picture frame series, where I make frames from a variety of materials to hold tintype photographs I made at the tintype photography workshop held by Jimmy Diresta and Taylor Forrest.
The frame is MIG welded mild steel.

So cool. Love the industrial look. Was that a flux core wire welder?

Thanks! It was a MIG welder (so, shielding gas rather than flux) but for something like this, a flux core welder should work fine.

I really like the look of that and would like to build them with my students but I am not understanding how the picture is saying in? Did you weld some tabs into the inside of the angle iron frame?

I used magnets on the back, to make it easy to swap out the picture. You can see them briefly at 2:22. Thanks for watching!

what are those magnets called that allow you to set the flat bar at a 3 dimensional angle? at :18

They are "adjustable magnetic v-pads" by Strong Hand tools. They sell them on Amazon, and I've seen them at some retailers like Tractor Supply.
