There hasn’t been a mono LP pressing of The Birds, The Bees, and The Monkees since the late 60s. Excellent condition US mono pressings of this album can run north of $1000. It’s long overdue for an LP reissue.

You know, that's genius-just issue the Asylum Years Ronstadt empty box! Think of how happy the record shop owners would be to see people coming in to scoop up all of those Ronstadt LP's that have just been sitting there in their store. And how happy the customers will be not having to plunk down all that cash for the pricey fully loaded box, but shelling out maybe 5 or 6 bucks. Win Win. Love it!

This Doors show is known amongst fans, it was a radio broadcast that's been bootlegged many times. Apparently this version comes from the master tapes.

That's what's deceiving about these last doors live records The doors live in Bakersfield was on electric label distributed by rhino records and put together in great packaging so you just assume it's been remastered but the sound quality sound like somebody took a microphone up to a TV set

    • @ChromeDestiny
      @ChromeDestiny 9 месяцев назад

It was pretty comparable to bootleg of the show that already circulated except the RSD had more tracks including The End. I love the versions of The End and Universal Mind from the Bakersfield show but yeah, that sound quality is rough, I'm not fooling myself on that one.

Robert you are by far the best explaining buyer beware with record store Day caution what's good and what's not your spot on about the last live doors record it sounds like crap and it also came out with a CD as well I'm looking forward to the foghat live in New Orleans I saw that tour in 1973 at the Hollywood palladium the Edgar Winter group opened up with Rick Derringer and they played they only come out at night Frankenstein for 15 minutes which was killer but foghat came out after and blew everybody away I never thought I would be able to find that on vinyl

Hey Robert, do you want copies of the Bernie Worrell 2XLP and the Westbound Sound comp? I'm doing PR for them for reissues etc. label Org Music, and we should have promos in soon. One of the better "early takes" of RSD 2024. I get that some content creators crack out an iPad and just scan the list in a non-deep-dive way just to give initial impressions and be first out of the gate, but I appreciate that you took and extra day or two to cover the list more thoroughly (from your perspective) and that you included images. Also for a 20 minute + video, you really keep it moving along. You're a total pro!

Excellent video Robert! You do a great job distilling much of what's coming out and what to look for. I think it's gonna be the best RSD ever, and with a Pearl Jam exclusive, a Neil Young & Crazy Horse advance exclusive, and a Taylor Swift record dropping the day before (we still don't know if there will be an RSD exclusive), this day has HUGE written all over it! I love your comments about enjoying yourself and the day, and people gotta remember one thing above all else: It's about SUPPORTING YOUR LOCAL RECORD STORE! So they ran out of the thing you were looking for the most. They will probably have a bunch of other things, and if not an RSD title, find SOMETHING and SUPPORT THEM. It's a tough job year after year doing these events, and the stores do not make a lot of money once the bills are paid and the taxes are taken out. It's really more about PR and spreading the love of vinyl and the communal aspect of fans loving SOMETHING in this crazy mixed up world. Thanks again so much for being such a great love spreader! Can't wait to see your wrapup videos!

A Linda Ronstadt boxed set... If I was a record store owner, I would just assemble those albums from my bargain bins and make people buy those. The boxed set is probably digitally sourced, too. And they can't use the "her albums are common but they were all played to death" excuse like they can for the Monkees. Her albums are usually plenty clean.

"Here's your new sofa sir... And here's an extra pile of wood and fabric scraps we had left over from the production process that comes with it. You're welcome!"
What the hell am I supposed to do with that!?!
I buy a sofa, I just want the finished product, and if I buy an album, I just want the finished album, not the demos, the takes, and other nonsense for an additional disc... There's a few albums I'd like a reissue of, straight up, but can't get it unless I get them with all this extra crap at greater cost.

This is the first mention of the Parliament debut. I’ve never heard of Dave Pike. Nancy Sinatra is closer to $20 in California. On the other hand I see no reason for the Linda Ronstadt box set. The live RSD release that is my #1 want is the Wall of Voodoo. The Bernie Worrell sounds a bit like Now and Then by the Beatles. If my memory serves me right Mind Games is a bit of a shiny turd. The Cure picture discs are annoying. The Nuggets and Yardbirds look good. The Punk 45 is good and is a reissue.

That Dave Pike LP is "Out There!" If you're not tripping on acid, it may be an odd listening experience or a pleasantly odd one. Lots of early jazz/rock styled tunes, some free form with sax, organ and what sounds like a mini-Moog synthesizer and fuzz guitar. Think of a few jazz cats getting high on acid one afternoon and saying "Hey! Let's record something right now baby!" And this LP was the result. Various tempos, ranging from swing feel to acid jazz/rock. More bizarre than Don Ellis (if you've ever listened to his stuff) but not as cheesy as Big Band Moog, (but also worth a laugh. If you can get through them. Therein lies the challenge).

Yes, the list is quite an improvement this year... though I hope nearly none of the record stores owners will order the Linda Ronstadt box set.. this is just plain stupid so I hope it doesn't sell because otherwise next year get ready for a bunch of stupid box sets... I remember last year or the year before, Walmart went through her catalogue doing the Walmart Edition treatment and I don't think those were big hits (same happened to Billy Joel BTW, I still see some of those records when I go check)
My main disappointment is from Music On Vinyl, they're releasing a record from Global Communication (UK electronica/ambient to sum it up roughly) which was a single on 2 records in on 1 lp for the 30th anniversary with only a 1000 copies and I'm pretty sure not one will arrive stateside.
I'll try to bug my local store but I'm pretty sure they won't even be able to order it.
It'd be ok if it was a "RSD First" but no, they said it was a RSD Exclusive so this is going to show up on Discogs 2 weeks later at ridiculous prices to which you would have to add exorbitant shipping costs (coming from Europe).
Oh well, c'est la vie... But I'd rather not know about it as ignorance is bliss
Anyway, that Gandalf and Parliament are really tickling my fancy ...
PPS: other disappointment is no Taylor Swift record.. ;-)
Won't be many Swifties in line this year..

That Taylor Swift really brought out a lot of people last year. She keeps some record stores in business.

One of my all time favorites. I see it all the time, cheap and I buy it for friends who need to know it. It always blows minds.

@@RobertFithen for sure it sort of on the cusp of being an album that doesn't need an expensive reissue but hey ya know if someone needs it and has a hard time finding then they will be stoked to pick it up. enjoyed the video!

Hi, i think RSD is a real missed opportunity for music lovers. Personally my favourite format of vinyl to collect is 12" singles. For example every year the Cure release another pointless picture disc that only really appeals to people who are never going to play them or are going to sell them on the second hand market for an inflated price. If the Cure or their record label really wanted too release something of real value to their true fans then they would release the original 12" singles of A FOREST or PRIMARY , etc. Those records are near impossible to get and if you can get them they often cost over £100 and are in bad condition.
And i hate all the useless live albums they keep releasing on RSD. Personally i think RSD would be so much better if as Robert said labels would release good quality represses of expensive, hard to find records that real music fans desire but can`t acquire.
There`s so many vintage Psyche albums i`ll never be able to own because of rarity and cost and RSD could solve that problem.
    Cheers from England.

Exactly. My favorite type of RSD release is when it's a reissue of something that's nearly impossible to find.

Nothing on the list for me as much as I hoped for not enough Rock I don’t need another Dio live album and I was one who bought the Verve Pipe didn’t stand in line but I bought it. Plenty of great releases coming out on normal release dates to me seems like they are running out of stuff to release.

7 inch 45 rpm singles don't bother me. I guess because I'm from an era in which they were abound and common.

I am, too, but at the current prices, I'll just get an album.

Is it me or are all these modern vinyl releases have sh album covers. They seem to just slap together the quickest sh they could find. Nothing iconic about album cover art anymore. IMO. not that would waste my money on any of this stuff. anyway. The only time I would want to buy a new vinyl is for same reasons that you expressed. Finding an original pressing is either difficult or super-expensive. But I have no need for a new vinyl release of Paul Mcartneys butler sings Beatles acoustic classics and bs like that. I would rather just collect old used records and CD s.

I don't think there's much investment in art design for albums anymore. It's a shame.

The Gary Moore Skid Row? By the way, Rumors is annoying. Rumors is way worse than Pet Sounds.
