Thoughts on the movement: 00:48 | Thoughts on Mercy: 03:48 | Oh boy, I really struggled to word myself with this one. I’m pretty hesitant to even upload this but feel it could lead to some interesting discussions! At least skip to my thoughts on Mercy if the first video half isn't doing anything for you. Apologies to the people who don’t care about this issue, too, I’ll put up a stream highlight on Saturday to make up for it. I don’t have much harddrive space or previous footage so this is largely last minute 4am QP footage
I really tried to be considerate to both sides of the argument and made sure to word myself so it is clear that everything here is just my opinion - which can be wrong, which you’re allowed to disagree with

SORRY AGAIN TO PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW WHAT THIS MOVEMENT IS OR CARE ABOUT IT
Already looking back, I can immediately tell I could've explained the @RevertMercySays tweets in more depth. I know Mercy wouldn't ALWAYS wait for her team to die which I implied. I think the High Noon example is a bit iffy since Mccree is a loud stationary target and how often does he really get a 5k during it? There’s also a lotta shit like DM and reflect that interfere with it. I also don't think the Soldier 76 one is all that accurate. He needs line of sight to actually get the damage off, something Mass Rez didn't. The Junkrat one is kind of fair since he gets 10 seconds to move the tire around - however, it only has 100p and is very loud. He is also very vulnerable during it. Mercy's GA isn't accompanied by the noise of a burning tire ya know? The initial voiceline is also positional and can give you a vague idea where he's sitting (there's been a few times as Mercy where I hear Riptire and can find Junkrat is located then pistol him down lol)
    ̶A̶̶̶l̶̶̶s̶̶̶o̶̶̶ ̶̶̶a̶̶̶ ̶̶̶l̶̶̶o̶̶̶t̶̶̶ ̶̶̶o̶̶̶f̶̶̶ ̶̶̶t̶̶̶h̶̶̶os̶̶̶e̶̶̶ ̶̶̶t̶̶̶w̶̶̶e̶̶̶e̶̶̶t̶̶̶s̶̶̶ ̶̶̶h̶̶̶a̶̶̶v̶̶̶e̶̶̶ ̶̶̶r̶̶̶e̶̶̶s̶̶̶p̶̶̶o̶̶̶n̶̶̶s̶̶̶e̶̶̶s̶̶̶ ̶̶̶w̶̶̶i̶̶̶t̶̶̶h̶̶̶ ̶̶̶w̶̶̶e̶̶̶l̶̶̶l̶̶̶ ̶̶̶t̶̶̶h̶̶̶o̶̶̶u̶̶̶g̶̶̶h̶̶̶t̶̶̶ ̶̶̶o̶̶̶u̶̶̶t̶̶̶ ̶̶̶d̶̶̶i̶̶̶s̶̶̶a̶̶̶g̶̶̶r̶̶̶e̶̶̶e̶̶̶m̶̶̶e̶̶̶n̶̶̶t̶̶̶s̶̶̶/̶̶̶c̶̶̶r̶̶̶i̶̶̶t̶̶̶i̶̶̶c̶̶̶i̶̶̶s̶̶̶m̶̶̶s̶̶̶ ̶̶̶t̶̶̶h̶̶̶a̶̶̶t̶̶̶ ̶̶̶t̶̶̶h̶̶̶e̶̶̶ ̶̶̶o̶̶̶w̶̶̶n̶̶̶e̶̶̶r̶̶̶ ̶̶̶h̶̶̶a̶̶̶s̶̶̶n̶̶̶’̶̶̶t̶̶̶ ̶̶̶r̶̶̶e̶̶̶p̶̶̶l̶̶̶i̶̶̶e̶̶̶d̶̶̶ ̶̶̶t̶̶̶o̶̶̶
I guess what I’m trying to say is that most of these ults have more ways to counter and play around them than Mass Rez does? That being said, Mass Rez did have two solid counters: Killing Mercy first and controlling ult management so you can re-wipe once it’s been used, the latter of which more common as you went up the ladder. However, at Plat and below, ult management is one of the most common lacking areas - you regularly see a team wipe but they used five ults to do it. Is this perhaps a reason why so many of the people advocating Mass Rezz’s return are in these ranks?
A few posts have said that Blizzard could have tweaked mass rez before trying a rework - such as implementing things such as line of sight or the cast time. They definitely could have tried this! I do feel this may have felt clunky to play but there’s no real way to tell. Keep in mind, Mercy was given brief immunity upon Mass Rez because she’d do it then be a sitting duck while her teammates went through the animation. Don’t these kind of conflict? Would Mercy have a cast time then the teammate animation time, or would the latter be scrapped? At the moment, if Mercy manually leaves the range of her Rez, it cancels. This absolutely sucks shit but how would it work with multiple cast timed Rezzes? Would only one cancel? All? Anyway, It is an interesting thought though because it would promote 1-2 maybe 3 man rezzes while discouraging 4-5. If Mercy’s the only one alive on point and standing still to Rez 5 people, she’s getting immediately gonked
A discussion, that might just be horseshit, I’d like to offer is - there’s been some posts in the overwatch community (like Seagull’s video) from players who are unhappy with how powerful ultimates are and how the game may come across as “team that presses Q harder wins”. I’ve seen some people want more ults that are like Tracer’s and Valkyrie could fit into this line of thinking - it won’t save the team from everything but is so flexible in return. At the moment, GOATS is meta - which doesn’t even run any DPS, even though the posts I mentioned earlier all relate to DPS, because Zarya and Reinhardt have ults that are so game winning. Instead of focusing on making Valkyrie more powerful, what if other ults were toned down?
Someone in my Discord also said I should mention how Blizzard hasn't acknowledged this movement but I didn't really have anything to say. It would be nice if they did but won't the #reworkmercy movement just get upset if Blizzard says "we think everything is fine"?. I guess I feel like the game has other issues and characters in need of more attention
Oh yeah, small edit: I worry I may come across as pretty dismissive of Ana/Moira when I talked about Hoshi's tweet, which I apologize for. Ana has a huge unique kit and while Moira doesn't do much else, there is huge merit to offering large aoe heals
Another Update: Aria Rose tweeted about me being a "shady ass hoe" and a few other things then blocked me before I could respond, cuz I was sleeping when all this happened. I think this is quite unfair because discussion is something I've repeatedly stated is healthy and something I've encouraged, even though not every comment has agreed with this video. I kinda feel like this just reinforces the point I made about #reworkmercy being closed off to criticism.
Anyway if there’s anything my dumb caged monkey brain explained poorly, feel free to ask me to clarify. I didn’t mean for this to get so fucking long LOL if I knew I had this much extra to say, I would’ve just made the video longer

First Merry Christmas to you. Second, it's sad that you feel you have to apologize for your thoughts and opinions but the internet is what it is. Thirdly, I want to say I agree with all you have said. I mentioned to you on another platform about the little bit of research I did about some wanting more "Play of the game." moments for Mercy. Which touches the same point about Mercy not being fun. I have been a Mercy Main since a while ago and do recall a time before the current version we have today. That I thought was boring compared to what she is now. Admittedly my play style is made a great deal easier with this version than it was before. Clutch Rez, (As you said) Using Valk as a cooldown and going on a semi-offensive while still needing to think about the bigger picture and watching you TEAMs back. This is where I start to feel some have gotten lost. This is a team game. If you feel you aren't making a difference or getting big plays as Mercy maybe you are playing her for the wrong reason. NO support class in any game has ever really been the flashiest. Though if you step back they always make the biggest impact on those they come in contact with. More often than not I hear, Take out the healers, or the back line. Once support is down everything else begins to crumble. Overwatch is a fast game, but when played with a tactical mindset it can be extremely fun to me as Mercy, for reasons I have mentioned. Thank you Niandra for researching and sharing your thoughts on this in such a well spoken and frank manner. I look forward to your streams and what all. Good luck to everyone in your games. #mercyftw

What if valkyries chain healing/damage-boosting were exhanged with either you having no cd on rez or you have a much faster rez that you can use without cd about 2-3 times. What do you think about this idea/tweaks that whould've made it more balanced. Thx for taking your time to read this ^•^

    • @hanalua5018

Agreed. I used to be on board with a rework for mercy but I don't want mass rez back. I've gotten used to valk and to the freedom it gives me (*cough* and i love gunning down those pesky widows and watch dpses run away bc Im So Scary In Valkyrie) although I sometimes wish rez could be adressed bc while it's balanced, it's sluggish to play.
I just feel sometimes like if mass rez is brought back, it should be given to a new hero that would be an off healer. Your point about high healing output not being associated with defensive ults makes sense! There would be no reason to run zen/lucio/brig if the main healers had defensive ults of their own.
Anyway, I think a lot of mercy's issues would be fixed by bringing the healing back to what it was and adding more main/off healers. Atm we have the choice between 3 main healers, one of which is very aim reliant and immobile, so there's not much choice for a plat pleb like me. I'd love more healers and more tanks! With more choice, Mercy players who find no fun in their hero might find more fun in other heroes (and switching would be more prevalent)
Thanks for making these informative videos!
      love u bye :3

@@brobdignagian6529 What does Mercy do better than Moira and Ana?
Ana has monstrous burst healing and huge utility with her ult, sleep and antiheal.
Moira has 80hps plus 16 residual hps for 3 sec, all of this is AOE. If she throws a healing orb and heals at the same time she can do 155hps. If she throws her orb plus her ult it's 140hps+75hps = 215hps. She also has 0.8 seconds of invulnerability every 6 seconds. She also has the most ease of doing damage while healing. Ult plus damage orb to do 120 dps while healing 140 hps with 30m range.
Mercy can do 50hps, one person at a time. She can do 60 hps in AOE with valk. She has rez every 30 seconds but it has a 1,75 cast time and makes her very slow. So most of the times you use it in the middle of a fight you will die. And if you're not in the middle of a fight the rez doesn't have much value. She also has damage boost, but it's not good unless your teammates can do damage reliably.
There's only 2 things Mercy has better than the others, her mobility and her healing being the only one that can goes through barriers.
In my opinion I'd rather if they removed rez, buffed her healing back to 60 and gave her a different E ability. I like the idea of a low cooldown cleanse, like Zarya's bubble but only for cc immunity, no damage immunity. It would work for Mercy and whoever she was healing when she activated the ability. It would really help against all the cc we have on the game. It would add a really nice, realiable utility, unlike rez and damage boost, 2 utilities that heavily relies on your team (damage boost relies on team's good aim and rez relies on team protecting you for a mid fight rez).

    • @brobdignagian6529
      @brobdignagian6529 5 лет назад +2

aquiba I never said that mercy has more HPS than ana or moira. Mercy just has the best mobility and arguably the best E ability, regardless of how movement impairing it is (resurrection in any game always has so much value). Also, you can’t just say damage boost is lacklustre. A 30% damage boost is very significant. I.e. Mccree can two shot headshot any squishy with damage boost and ashe can one-shot headshot any squishy with the damage boost. It changes a large number of interactions.
A cleanse ability that negates all cc would be kind of broken. Just imagine if you could give Orisa’s fortify to any character. CC immune high noon, death blossom, rocket barrage, nano-boosted dragon blade, primal rage. It just shits on those sick, high skill ana shots on those nano-boosted genjis that you see the pros hit.

    • @LeoHikari
      @LeoHikari 5 лет назад +5

@@brobdignagian6529 The cleanse would replace rez, maybe have 1 second duration with 6-8 seconds cooldown. Damage boost is lackluster if the team can't use reliably, so its utility is inconsistent. It can be very good but it also can do nothing, depending on your team.

I feel like Mercy is in a good spot balanced wise. But the reason why Mercy mains and I advocate for a rework is for a new feeling of impact.

With new Mercy, she is more of a side kick than a hero. She doesn’t feel the feeling of impact.

Probably the only thing I hate about current mercy is how slow her healing output is.
If your team is taking cover in critical condition and you're on Ana/Moira, you can have key players up and running in under 3 seconds. Mercy takes excruciatingly long to restore anyone back to full health; tanks especially feel like they take an eon to get back to 600 hp.
This is makes her feel literally unplayable at lower ranks compared to ana/moira because teams take so much damage in general. Furthermore, Ana brings so much more utilty to the table.

Im not sure about that, I climbed from low gold to high plat maining Mercy, Ana and Moira are designed to be burst healers though, sure they can throw a cooldown or two and get some instant healing but when it comes to sustain, that is where mercy is king. I think if we go the route of homogenising healers we end up lacking in variety and/or gameplay

It's impossible to cause them to play differently through vc either because they simply have not developed the awareness or mechanics to.
Much like how soldier cannot compete in a meta where burst damage kills everything quickly, Mercy simply cannot support people in a meta where you need burst heal to counter burst damage.

Where in my initial post did I say 'multiple people'? Mercy struggles to keep even a single person alive. People walk onto point to contest and die THROUGH YOUR HEALING. Genjis blade and die instantly THROUGH YOUR HEALING. Reins shatter, miss the enemy Zen, and die instantly to volley trying to cleanup THROUGH YOUR HEALING. Dvas fly back from contesting enemy flankers, then get de-meched trying to peek THROUGH YOUR HEALING. Even Moira and Ana feel like much better supports for Pharah because Nano and Coalescence can actually keep her alive through barrage; Pharahs don't hit enough rockets for damage boost to be worthwhile (they always ask for 100% health beam anyway), and neither valk nor regular beam will help Pharah live through ult.
Mercy pocket is currently downright useless compared to Moira orb+LMB and Ana nade+LMB. When playing every other main healer I can focus cooldowns to facilitate teammates in the scenarios mentioned above, but the sheer amount of damage renders Mercy pocket utterly useless. There is currently 0 reason to play Mercy as a mainhealer; in fact, the slow rate of her current output actually makes her feel like an off-healer.
Sure, Mercy is extremely easy to get gold healing/0 deaths with, but with Ana/Moira it doesn't even matter if you die mid-fight because your plays are so impactful that even if you do have a greater risk of being picked off, your plays have already been made and the team fight is already secured.

@@malevolentmacaroni8469 wait you want mercy to be able to heal through ults with her standard heal? Lol what. I honestly think you just can't adapt to playing Mercy and/or you play with people who expect burst healing. If you pocket someone they will win the 1v1 unless they're utterly terrible, if they die while youre healing in a 2v1 or any other focus scenario guess what, they should die. Mercy shouldn't be able to heal everything away. Also you talk about how she is unplayable at low ranks but then talk about the meta, those things both contradict yourself. I mean I heal way more as mercy than any other healer. 17k+ is pretty achievable most matches, usually sitting around the 30% of damage taken mark.

You have to do a certain amount of healing to get 1 stock (or teammate) you can bring back. You can bring back that one person whenever you want or save it for a team fight.
You can keep collecting those resses or stocks by healing and only have a max of 5 resses and if everyone dies you can use all your stocks of resses you’ve been collecting to bring back everyone. It’s like “here heal your teammates all the time and your reward for being a good healer is bringing back those fallen players” it still goes with Mercy identity of being a angel in a way and a healer

  • @artema.
    @artema. 5 лет назад +30

Some points Aria also brought up is that the split beam during valkyrie goes against her identity (a strong single-target healer) and rez on E is so hard to balance that they had to throw the rest of her kit into the gutter, and I really do agree with those statements. People complain valkyrie isn't engaging, but giving her a stronger, single target beam (75-90hps maybe?) would make it more engaging. Imagine still having to juggle beams during valk, it would force you to fly around a lot more and actually choose who to heal, thus adding a bit more "Mercy skill" to her (skill that many people don't see as skill, thus they call us braindead).
I'd also prefer rez to be tied to her ultimate. I feel like rez on E is a mini-ultimate and I just don't like to be unable to move for 2 seconds while normally she's such a mobile hero. Maybe they could give her 3 rez charges, but after each rez she has to wait 5 seconds so unless she rezes someone in the first 5 seconds of her ult, she can't rez 3 teammates, she will probably rez 1 or 2 most of the time, and make rez instant. These changes are things I've had in mind for a while. This means she will need a new E ability though to use outside of rez. Her regular beam also gets reverted.
I honestly don't know if this will be op, but that's not what I want. There are ways WITH valkyrie to fix this. Please tell me what you all think, I don't want to preach things no Mercy main agrees to, the goal of this movement is to create a consensus between Mercy mains.

Sadly, as someone who 200+ competitive play Mercy hours, she hasn't been my number one played hero since season 7. Valk, when it first came out, started as a super fun and engaging ult that rivaled the feeling of mass rez. I never "hid" to get the 5 man before and this change sort of supported my playstyle. But slowly over time they took away bits and bits. Now we have the shell that is 30 second rez for everyone regardless of skill or output and the boring parts of Valk. I don't agree with you saying long distance GA is a super important component, I've used it on like Ilios ruins and I can't think of any other time. Chain beams is a sticking point for Aria. She feels she should be a stronger single target healer and likely feels that any buff to that is hindered by this new AE effect it'd have (I am 50/50 on it. I like it but if it went away I wouldn't care) and I find 50 hps to be unacceptable (I can only negate Winston spam to one person and break even with Moira while she self heals) and sympathize with her on this end. Self Regen is nice, but is that ult worthy? And infinite ammo on the pistol is silly and I find I take it out for troll effect. The other thing was the ult comparison. I think a lot of Mercy mains were like myself and we never hid and hate that we get lumped in like we did. The ultimate comparison is how Hanzo can shoot his ult through a wall, the McCree one is how he hides and how these criticized things of Mass Rez didn't come without precedent of other ults having similar function. Mercy mains get shit on a lot. I hate that. I was willing to put up with it for 7 seasons because she was fun and then that stopped. So when Season 12 Aria joins the scene and says a lot of what I felt I support her. Maybe every thing isn't perfect that she says (alright - a lot) but she's the only one gaining traction when many of her complaints were mine back then and ones that my friends echoed but never felt like it got anywhere.

Valk was fun because it supported rez and created a pressure for good mercys to keep up the attrition war. I remember pre nerf post rework where I stalled the payload for a full 3 minutes all because I kept supporting and rezzing as dangerously as I could. We still lost the match, ending with 21 rezzes and 20k healing. It was tiring, but exciting. But of course it was op. After the rez nerfs, mercy literally became a rez bot. She now neither has the fun of the "time puzzle" of her mass rez nor the attrition war of her Valk+e rez. Because of that, I switched to Ana for support.

I'm always confused when people say Mercy isn't fun. Not only do I get to watch my teammates that overextend die (which I find very satisfying might I add), but I also get to watch as Winston's, Genji's, and D.Va's all use their cooldowns to try and kill me only to get jebated and get killed because they jumped straight into my team.
*Mercy is fun if you're sadistic!*

Since discovering you like a year ago, I got to high diamond (from mid silver in season 6, been in diamond since season 8, would be higher if I played lul) and I'm having a lot of fun with Mercy (mainly bc of dmg boost tbh which Aria claims is useless). I just wish that I felt more impactful during the game, at this point it just feels like I’m “enabling”(?) my teammates to make impactful moves. As main DPS characters, I get happy off of the kills and choices, that Valkyrie doesn’t really offer. But I do enjoy that you shared this.

ThatSquidYouKnow While that is true, I feel as if in comparison to other supports, Mercy doesn’t seem to have a sense of individuality if her intended role is simply to just pocket and just enable others. I think in comparison to other supports she lacks a little a bit of the ability to make some huge plays, example being Ana hitting a good nade or dart, Lucio booping the enemy off a ledge, Moira pumping out massive heals base kit or even in ultimate or Zenyatta saving his team with his Transcendence, which may be why some Mercy mains are disheartened with how she is. While I disagree with mass rez coming back as I do now think it’s unhealthy, I wouldn’t mind her getting a small rework to address some of those issues. Personally, I feel that Ressurrect on E is too inconsistent as an ability and hinders her potential.

I watch both you and Aria’s videos. Personally, I agree with you. I think Mercy’s fun! I didnt play Mercy when Mass Rez was a thing but Ive always found Mercy fun once I picked her up and began maining her In Season 9. I watched videos like yours and tried hard to get better and in Season 10 I went from silver to plat. I find it fun to be able to juke enemies and keep good positioning. Partly because of your videos Ive had fun getting value out of dmg boosting the right heroes/abilities at the right time. I like how Valkyrie relieves a little pressure with its AoE heals and then can apply good pressure with dmg boost, and I have fun timing it correctly (and occasionally getting cheeky picks out of it heh). I can agree that Mercy doesn’t really have something to directly make an AMAZING play... she relies on her teammates. She enables plays for her teammates. It can be kind of unfun to not really have that much of a direct impact, but like Ive said Ive always found fun in the other parts of her kit/playstyle. Loved the video and I dont think it came off as an attack at all. Happy to hear your thoughts!

Hi, I am glad you enjoy playing the reworked version of Mercy :) I think the majority of us Mercy mains who have played her back when she had Mass Rez now complain about the state she is in because she used to have a huge impact moment, when the player felt the adrenaline rushing, and it was really satisfaying. It didn't have to be a op-5-men-behind-cover-negating-graviton-dragon blade-and-blizzard-rez but just a 2 or 3 men rez in the middle of the fight with this legendary voiceline was awesome :D I never felt really op as Mercy, except when they used 4 or 5 ults to kills my 5 teammates (but eh, it's on them if they are stupid). I don't personally want Mercy to be op but I want to feel excited when I cast my ultimate, not just merely float around (even though it is a strong survival tool if you manage to fly away before anyone kills you). For someone who has never played Mass Rez Mercy it can seem fun, but to me, it feels dull and boring, you stand there and watch your teammates getting killed by the ennemy (they don't even need to use ults) and it's infuriating to be so unimpactful :( Anyway, that is only my opinion, I don't claim to know everything, I'm just a Plat player. But I would love them to rework Mercy's ult to something more impactful and funny ! Even if it means removing rez or changing her e.

  • @007eagletalon
    @007eagletalon 5 лет назад +14

Personally I disagree with your opinion. The main problem with Valk is that it's unengaging and just boring. That's because while you are getting more healing value from the chain beams that's all it really is chain beams. Their really is no skill chaining beams and takes away from Mercy players who are very good at juggling beams using GA. The most fun I had playing Mercy was using GA to juggle beams with 60hp per second base kit. Also Rez on e is impossible to balance too op to have as a cool down thus nerfing her base kit to justify having it. Not to mention rezing someone doesn't feel as rewarding as it did when was earned. I understand that people will have different opinions and that you like this Mercy but I don't and the friends I play with don't. I didn't need Aria to tell me how I should feel about Mercy I came up with this concision on my own after many hours of gameplay.
That said I respect you opinion and hope that we as a community can come together and discuses this issue and reach common ground. I personally want Mercy to be more skill base what that means is not for me to decide on my own. But that's exactly why I want to have a conversation in the first place.

My own suggestions for a partial revert do include a lot of nerfs to mass ressurect (no invulnerability, line of sight, and a slower charge rate), because... Yeah, I just consider ultimate combo counterplay as far more important than some genji whining that his reckless dragonblade got countered. Ana is also in a MUCH better place since her buffs, and Moira's... well... alright?
My suggestions did also include an E (in my case, it was a small barrier which appears opposite the side of the hero the beam enters them from, putting a bit more ooomph behind her movement because most people consider that bit the most fun part of her usual kit.)
Valkyrie being a glorified spectator button was more about the still relatively low heals for an ultimate, and how it did little more than just let you keep playing the same way, basically, just a lot more safely.
Now, sure, that's sort of the case with bongo, particularly with how squishy it is... But Orisa's gameplay also involves barriers and shooting and stuff, and she doesn't lose any of that during bongo (Where, moth mercy loses most of the reason to guardian angel around.)
Additionally... THIS IS BLOODY RESURRECTION, bringing someone back from the dead... it doesn't feel rewarding to just be given this on a cooldown, I'd rather not have it at all, and have a completely new Q AND E, than the E-Rez/Q-Valk combo.
And, finally, remember moth meta? That only existed because the old E res, back when it was instant and hitting Q gave another one, that enabled the more sedantry characters too much...
But, if we buff those stationary characters too much, that risk of cooldown tempo res is ALWAYS there, looming over any attempt to buff orisa into relevance, or any similar such thing for other more bunker-esque characters like mei.
Cooldown Ressurect Mercy is acting as a pin, preventing any real improvements to these characters, because that might in turn snowball the overall composition into being too good to avoid in places where it works.
And also, you know, a LOT of other mercy players simply don't enjoy the hero right now, people fine with her current state are a MASSIVE minority.
Hell, I only really flex mercy when I have to, but my ONLY positive mercy memory from the last few seasons should NOT be me using my pistol, on the one character not supposed to have weapon things on one of their main clicks.

From a design point of view, Valkyrie is a mess. It boosts 6 features of the character and allows flying (like you pointed out), and it has to do so because otherwise the ability would be useless from a practical pov. It forces a synergy in order to be relevant. An ultimate should be simple, yet useful, and that's how I see the old ress. Either way, that's from an aesthetic pov. From actual gameplay, I find the current status of the character to be mortfying. I have been playing the character since season 1, mostly on high Diamond and low Master, and it seems to me that not only the character has grown duller by the updates but also ineffective. You said fun is subjective and I agree with that, but mechanically her ultimate isn't very impactful. It can't be used to mitigate damage in an ultimate trade off and it also isn't very effective at keeping mercy alive against a decent player's aim. And that's only the ultimate. Her normal healing rate has been nerfed to the point that even healing outside of a fight became a long tedious chore. Resurrect is more often that not a worthless ability because of its casting time- attempting to use it greatly lowers the team's healing and pulling it off during a fight usually means the fight was won either way. These only are a few flaws I have noticed regarding the hero, but ultimately when I compare what Mercy can do and what Ana/Moira can do, it seems evident to me that the sensible choice is simply to migrate to the latter heroes.

As a GM Mercy main, I love Mercy, and always have. I’m completely for #ReworkMercy because I personally liked Mass Res better (but am not against Valk at all). It personally felt more engaging to me because I’ve always played an aggressive Mercy and still do (a bit more so now that I can get away with GA super jump). While I love the changes to GA, the healing nerf felt really bad. I pretended I didn’t notice, but Mercy didn’t start needing nerfs until her rework, which is why I think people has such negative view on it. Mercy received 6 buffs and 1 QoL change (no res in spawn) before her rework.
While I don’t mind Valk and think Battle Mercy (especially in nano) is a ton of fun, I don’t enjoy her the same way I used to because that aggressive play style I had was made much easier with Valk. Valk also feels very unrewarding/unimpactful because of the duration of it. I believe if Valk’s duration was about halved and her beams, etc., were compensated for would give Valk a much stronger form of urgency it currently lacks. In its current state, it starts to feel less noticeable to the players because it lasts as long as my life span.
If it was reduced, but the strength increased, it could have the power of a nano combo or a crappier, but still very powerful Zen Trans (think of it similar to Moira’s Coalescence, just not quite as strong.
This would make Valk a little more reactive and require timing to pull off a great Valk instead of popping it just before/as the fight starts.
Personally, I would rather Mass Res, but I’m totally willing to compromise for either one! I’m scared to have her completely reworked because I don’t want a totally new hero like the Symmetra treatment, but I’m not opposed to it.
Great video, and please, never be afraid to voice your opinion. You’ll always have people out there to see your side and view. :)

It's really interesting to see someone that liked mass res and as well as Valkyrie, usually it's one or the other or possible non at all.
I personally would really like to see some aspects of the medic's kit from Team Fortress 2 in mercy's kit which could be over healing or an uber charge that could do different things depending on which weapon you had, just to see how it plays out in Overwatch. I personally have more fun with just healing, damage boost and guardian angel which is what she is mainly using, I don't really care that much about res or Valk since they are not used that often and aren't really that fun to me. This is mainly due to res feeling kind of sluggish and out of place in her playstyle which is very mobile, with valk it does feel like you bring much to the fight, sometimes I think res can be more impactful than her ult because you are bringing someone back rather than just flying and healing.

Warning, lots of writing about mercy below
So im a mercy main. A gm mercy and i have 850+ hours on her. Ive been gm consistently and t500 a few times. Im saying this to give insight into how long ive played and what ive experienced woth mercy, which is pretty much all of it. I experienced all of mercy to date and to be honest, im very comfortable with mercy and her state. Shes balanced and i still find her fun because i adapted to her.
Mercy is a primary healer, id still argue the best primary healer. Simply because mercy has the movement and evasive manouveres to survive fights and heal more because shes not down for 10+ seconds respawning. Mercys primary healing at 50 hps is managable for me. I manage it be beam juggling when people are fighting and keeping them atleast half and then replenishing it after the fight. If they are crit i heal amd jump infron of them to tank some damage and then superjump up or guardian away. To me mercys healing at 50 hps is fine. Her healing is slow and consistant and that is fine. Im an angel that stays at your side longer and thats fine by me. I wouldnt mind a buff, but i dont think its necessary.
Mercy doesnt have to worry about barriers, shes doesnt have to face her target all the time or even really aim at them and she can keep healing through walls if she gets los again. Which means you can hide and peak and heal.
She has the highest mobility in the game, her cooldown is 2 seconds and she has the ground and the sky with ga and superjump. With both of those she should be staying alive to provide the heals you might have lost out on by picking her over ana or moira.
Her pistol does a sognificant amount of damage considering her primary jobs are to heal and damage boost and she has the most opportunities to avoid fights by leaving with her mobilty.
Her damage boost is an amazing abiltiy to pocket with especially since its so readily available and easy to swap between. Push up with you dps and get outta ga back if it gets too sticky.
Rez. Ah. Personally i feel like rez is fine. Yes its "risky". But if you communicate it and play smart it shouldnt fuck you up. If youre dying while rezzing often your going for dumb rezzes and not communicating them or the other team understands that with rez youre potentially bringing back a game changing ult and focus you because of this. Her rez is impactful and a well placed rez can change a fight. Yes you have to wasted 1.75 seconds for it. But it beats waiting the 10+ seconds it takes for them to respawn and get back. Id like to link a very good example for why mercy and rez is impactful in its current state. ruclips.net/video/kQy8In6ymcg/видео.html
Mercys ultimate is extremely impactful, the unlimited ammo, increased regen, increase ga range, chain heals, increase ga speed and unlimited mobility all make for a very versatile ult. Whether you use it to pocket an ult, to follow your divers, to chain damage boost, to battle mercy coz youre feeling like a harmicist not a pharmacist, to escape an ulting genji, to fly about and keep your team alive(do not use it inplace of a defensive ult). Its a really versatile ult. Unlike any other support ult. You dont just use it in one circumstance which is fine because you get it so often.
Now for Aria Rose. Sighs. It upsets me greatly that people are quick to rally around her and defend without knowing about her. Shes a hypocrite and a bully. Her whole altercation woth lilypiku and snobby attitude really shed light on what type of person she is. Her "apology" video was forced and simply done because it was expected of her. Her advocacy for civil debates and arguments is completely contradicted by her ignorance of criticism. She delete long threads and constructive comments, i can confirm this because she has done it to mine. I aknowledge after a few ognored comments and her saying i wasnt talking about her "evidence" i did get toxic. Shes hypocrtical because she criticises people that use phrases like "no aim no brain mercy mains" and "boosted mercy mains" and "egirls" a even when people just negatively say mercy main, but she does the same thing to dps mains. I dont appreciate her blatant disregard for higher elos just becaise they make up less of the player base. With that logic shes saying minorities opinions dont matter as much as the majorities. Another example is not listening to doctors for health advice simply because they dont make up more of the worlds population. The way she targets people that oppose her opinions is childish. Her video on poki is hypocritical because she does the exact same thing. Lastly. Shes a really toxic and all round bad mercy. I mean. How do you make a movement about mercy but not know how to make movement on mercy. She gas to far and too often. It lands her in damger too often. She talks about games sense often. But thats like comparing street smarts to actual intelligence. If you have gamesense and no skill you wont get as far as someone with skill and no gamesemse. That person with no gamesense can still do their job.
Heres example of her toxicity and mediocre gameplay
    ruclips.net/video/NZx5xaWUnFo/видео.html
I understand the movement and dont agree with it. However i do understand theres mercys out there that dont find her fun. However i do not like aria rose and do not appreciate everyone constantly calling her the voice of mercy because its gotten to her head.

I respect your opinion on #reworkmercy but imo I don't like valkyrie and rez as an ability instead of an ult. Valkyrie I just don't like as I will say you just get buff to your kit and see your team and enemy from a different angle. I feel ults should do something different that changes people's perspective of how to play against them. It's not just mercy but others as well. Orisa's ult is kind of the same as mercy's so I'm willing to replace her ult. Torb I'm glad they reworked his ult. Widow's is interesting as it's a hanzo sonic arrow on as an ult but it doesn't buff her kit. Mei's I won't say rework as although it's basically a better version of her primary fire, it doesn't buff her kit. Sombra is interesting but I won't say rework as it does destroy shield health and has no cast time like her normal hack as well as it doesn't buff her kit.
Personally, I think rez on e isn't the best option as it is very powerful and like blizzard had described it before, it's just a second ultimate that is on a cool down. Although it might not be as strong as an ult now, it is very powerful and should be rewarded than be given. Although, I think if we were to give mercy mass rez back, she should stay with 50hps or maybe 55hps because a defensive ult on a main healer is very strong but then again, she was underpowered back before the rework and was picked over by other supports (mainly zen and lucio) so idk.
Another option is to get rid of rez and replace it with something else. I know this is hard as rez is a core part of mercy's identity but I made my own ult called "last stand" where mercy can make her team not die (but still take damage so basically live on 1hp) which is very similar to mass rez and it fits her voice line "heroes never die" perfectly.
As well, she is a pacifist and her playstyle is the only playstyle where you aren't supposed to get kills. I feel like she needs more fun to the player that is playing her than just to the one that she is pocketing. And one option I've heard is to get rid of damage boost and I can't really disagree with that too much as people have been saying "oh, mercy got a new buff because of the hero ashe" and I'm like "yeah but that ain't a buff to her". With this, I kind of do and don't want damage boost removed.

Hey Niandra and thanks for your thoughts on the #reworkMercy movement!
I noticed that some of my tweets were mentioned so I figured I go ahead and address it, along with some other things that may or may not have already been discussed. :D
With the comparisons I've made, I'd kindly like to point that the goal was not to show that Mass Rez had just as much counterplay as the other ultimates, but to show that Mass Rez could have been given MORE counterplay and tweaked, like the other ultimates have been over time, but wasn't (which I believe you addressed in your comment). It was given what I would say to be the wrong types of quick fixes (invincibility on rez), and then completely removed. I don't think that kind of knee-jerk reaction from Blizzard to changing the hero was a good solution to her problem - especially so considering how OP Mercy became with the rework, how long it lasted, and considering how many nerfs it took to get Mercy to the state she is in today. That is the injustice done that I don't feel is fair to Mercy players, what I have been fighting since the rework, and is why I believe that Mass Rez + Tweaks could have been a way better solution than a completely different rework. But I'm only speaking for myself there, and not for those in the movement as a whole.
It's also something I notice that a lot of people tend to not talk about, relating only as far back as Mercy when she had Mass Rez + the invincibility, though stats show that she didn't always have invincible res, and that both iterations was no where near as a must pick compared to her rework - that she was actually considered for the most part to be either niche or a troll pick during that time, and in need of buffs and an E ability. Also, I understand how other people are fine with how she is right now, and to that I say, that's great and those are totally valid opinions to have! For those of us who aren't, I think it's fair to voice our opinions for changes, reverts, or reworks as well. I see no problem in that.
To also address the question of whether the two would conflict (mass rez + a small cast time), I don't believe it would at all. Do keep in mind that with that cast time is also a 70% slow reduction in her movement, like it is now on her E move, is where I believe the clunkiness on the res is coming from. I think that it's removal will make her animation a lot more fluid, and there's actually beta footage that shows her with a cast time but without the slow that can also illustrate how it would function (sadly without the LOS, but it was a really old video, so do keep that in mind).
Also in your pinned comment, and specifically here:
"I guess what I’m trying to say is that most of these ults have more ways to counter and play around them than Mass Rez does? That being said, Mass Rez did have two solid counters: Killing Mercy first and controlling ult management so you can re-wipe once it’s been used, the latter of which more common as you went up the ladder. However, at Plat and below, ult management is one of the most common lacking areas - you regularly see a team wipe but they used five ults to do it. *Is this perhaps a reason why so many of the people advocating Mass Rezz’s return are in these ranks?"*
I am kind of confused with the purpose of the generalization of rank is in this way here, considering your previous stance on "all voices matter." Are things like Ult spam not a problem in higher ranks right now? Would it matter more if those people were all GM and above? I think if ult recklessness, and "Most Q's Win" wasn't a problem right now, people like Seagull, and YourOverwatch wouldn't make mention of it dominating the game at the moment. To also be fair there, there are opinion people in the movement of various ranks (higher than plat as well) who have also advocated for it's return with tweaks, which also would otherwise not exist. From a statistical standpoint as well, I would also say that the reason why you may have seen so many players in that rank talk about it, is simply due to the fact that gold and plat players are in fact the majority of the population. I don't think that speaks for what those ranks want as a whole though in the movement, and there have been many exceptions from many different ranks and backgrounds (not that rank matters anyway though in terms of voicing opinions right? ;) ).
I think there's nothing wrong with higher ranks opinions on balance, and actually would prefer them. However, as you've said in your video, everyone deserves to get a voice. I think we need pros to help us determine how balanced something will be, and in terms of wanting the game to stay alive and vibrant, I think that we also need to consider the opinions of everyone else, and keeping the majority of that player-base engaged (with the majority of this community, and also it's income, coming from casual players) is a huge consideration that I don't think a lot of people seem to take into account. As I've mentioned as well, those who do want mass res to return in the movement want it tweaked in some way, but that isn't the only suggestion people have within the movement (To clarify, there are literally hundreds of suggestions and ideas regarding reworks for Mercy, and a lot of which don't advocate for Mass Rez or a Revert).
I'd like to also be clear in saying that I 100% agree that the game should not ONLY be balanced towards casuals, but I also don't think that the game should be balanced ONLY towards the pros either. I feel that trying to appeal to both sides to some degree is the best way to solve this game's current issues, and is something this game is (or should be) marketed for. There has to be a balance between the two, and I think we need to carefully consider that pushing to hard to either side in terms of what we want in this game will alienate the playerbase and hurt the game as a whole, something that we are already seeing now as the game is geared more and more towards pro-play and esports, less content being made, and less and less viewership in the OWL, among many other things.
I believe that whether we agree or disagree on the state on Mercy however, I think that we all can at least agree that Mercy still needs something in terms of compensation tweaks, buffs, etc. to make her more impactful, engaging, or rewarding to play. Just my 2 cents, and I hope you have a lovely new year! :)

i have to say i support #reworkmercy but i agree with a lot of points you made. for me i feel like she cant really cope with ana and moira right now and she doesnt have things in her kit that off healers have ( unless you count rez but that is very risky ability ). I would love to have a more impactful ult and tbh im excited about the idea of mercy getting a higher skill cap. Community of aria made some really cool concepts that extend her current kit and and make it more engaging which i love, ideas that even change her primary to healing for more when closer to the target and for less when really far, some people had idea that when you press reload you get like empowered staff that heals for A LOT but then it goes on cd and you have to recharge it. Mas rez is one of the ult ideas thats been circling around and most of the people tweaked it by making mercy still have to be above someones body to cast it and it only affects people in her sight, maybe she has to channel it so people can interrupt her ( stuns, sleeps, hacks etc ) and instead people put valk on e and it lasts for a little bit ( i think most people put it on 5 seconds and tweaked it so it doesnt give her so much buffs and heal regen ). Peole also had some REALLY cool ideas, i like the one where mercy would create a bubble with her ult that heals allies that stand in it and revives dead people in the range on initial cast. All in all i really hope blizzard looks into theese ideas and improves mercy. Also this is a personal opinion but i think its really hard to balance rez as an e ability but i feel like its a very iconic ability for mercy and it should be in her core kit so i would like to see some form of it in her possible future ult ^^.

I just want an increase in her healing. An entire revert is not needed and 55 would be enough. I find it much harder to use damage boost and pistol when I can never stop healing. This makes her a lot less fun so she needs more healing output. Once that is done, I think she would be entirely balanced. As far as fun goes, I think the character herself is fun. The ult is decent. Nothing special so they could add something to spice it up.

They need to balance the game primarily for the middle of the pack and above. Making Mercy a clearly weaker option (unless you need Mercy because of her mobility) than Ana if you are somewhat able to aim is not great. Sure if you're running 3 or 4 DPS heroes, Mercy will be better than Ana. And Ana is more effective than Mercy when you have more tanks. But if you're running 2-2-2, Ana is better than Mercy like 90% of the time. I'm a low Master's player and Mercy is worse than Ana soooo many times. Mercy should receive some minor buffs. Mercy is more engaging to play than before her rework because she is pretty much always involved in the fight. There is no need to rework her because she is in a ok place. If there's one thing that all these Mercy nerfs and the recent Mercy buff have said, it's that Mercy can be balanced in this state.

Oh hey, I actually like your video and do agree and disagree on some of your points. For me, the reason why I personally do not feel Mercy is fun is mainly because her impact in comparison to other healers, is low. Thats not to discount Rez is unimpactful, its just VERY situational. And I do think that its sort of fair that its high risk and high reward since it brings back a player, I dont think its healthy for it to be an E ability because, I dont think an E ability should be VERY risky. It also to me at least, disturbs her flow of play since shes supposed to be swooping in and out here and there, and to do something even on a cd, she has to cement herself and make herself a target. High risk and high reward should usually be an ult, not a cd ability.
Also the reason why I think a lot of people feel Valkyrie is unimpactful is because its mainly her basic kit but more extended with her higher regen, chain beam, and unlimited ammo. Theres no "WOW" factor like other heroes do; Ana can turn anyone into a juggernaut, Moira can do a Kamehameha (high dmg and high healing at the same time), Lucio and Zen can use their ult to save their team while Brigitte can give sustain to her teammates. These ults are something so different than in their kit, while yes, Mercy can do amazing things in Valkyrie, in comparison to other supports, its just her ult feels unimpactful in comparison.
I personally just want Rez to be her ultimate again, I dont really care if it is Mass Rez, maybe something else rez related but as an ult. Some suggested her ult be like Zilean's from LoL where its preemptive rez, while others as youve pointed in your comment, LoS and cast time with Mass Rez. Personally Im okay mass rez, I can see why people dont like it and remembering it more, I can understand why. But even then, it wasnt hard to counteract Mercy's ult. A well placed ult can effectively counteract Mass Rez. Ive had POTG or seen others who basically just ult after Mercy ults, an effective teamwipe. I think LoS can be implemented which just depends on the numbers. 0.8s seems like a good place since Lucio's ult is about the same, anything more than 1s would make her ult useless since she'll get easily picked off.
Another thing is that I personally feel that Valkyrie should just be her E ability. This is to say that agreeing with the above statement on why Valkyrie feels boring is because Rez was practically nerfed out of it. Since the rework, Rez was a core part of Valk, and I think thats why people find Valkyrie boring since Rez was the impactful part of it. It was OP but at the same time it was fun and impactful. Just remove her high self regen and chain beams and tweaks the numbers; perhaps a 6s duration for a 15scd Reason why I dont like chain beams is because shes supposed to be as great single target healer, not AoE, thats Lucio, Moira and Brigittes job. Also I disagree with your Orisa assesment with her ult, because at least while it is immobile, the range AND damage is way higher compared to Mercy's.
Perhaps maybe during this Valk, her healing could increase a bit to like 60hps since if theyre not going to buff her healing back (its WAY too low for a main healer). So Valk would basically still have slight increased healing to about 60-65hps, infinite ammo and her infinite flying is kept that lasts for 5s for 15s cd. Would give Mercy more consistent and a reliable cd ability rather than putting her life on the line.
tl;dr, I like your video, I disagree here and there and I think that Rez should be an ult while Valkyrie can be tweaked to be an E ability.

Well, I only played with Mercy a bit during the free trial but not long enough (Therefore, I don't know much about her), the only things I agree on is that I'd like for Mercy's healing to be amp a bit, that I can rez just two or three teammates, and for healers/supports to not be nerf to the ground (like what happened with Mercy and maybe Brigitte. Unfortunately, with Blizzard's track record and how they treat other supports/healers in their other games makes me weary).

  • @razrv3lc

I don't understand how people can even use Mercy beyond Plat. Her healing is too low to keep up with all of the unnecessary damage teams take there, Rez is almost unusable since you get locked down for so long, and you can't really damage boost much because you're constantly having to heal due to the lowered HP/s. The only thing I even have fun with playing Mercy nowadays is her movement... or ulting to chase down a Widow after your ult couldn't keep anyone alive in a team fight that didn't even have offensive ults used so you want to at least try to get SOME use out of it...
My guess is that the higher ranked people are fine with Mercy's healing output for the most part because their teams don't take so much unnecessary damage that the 50 hp/s can actually work. They get to use damage boost instead of just healing all the time. Current Mercy might actually be fun in that scenario but it's like... to get to that point now, you have to climb with the other healers just so you can play Mercy in an environment where she can work. Almost all of the Mercy players who are high ranked now were high ranked before the nerfs hit so it's like they had more wiggle room when climbing. Then the nerfs didn't affect them nearly as bad as it did the people in the lower ranks. It seems to have caused a huge disconnect between the reality for higher ranked Mercy players vs lower ranked Mercy players. I think I could maybe squeak my way up from diamond to masters with her but if I was in gold, I don't think I'd ever be able to climb from there playing her.

I am glad you shared this opinion. I was already wondering if you would say anything to this whole Movement. It feels nice to hear feedback from the people that actually play Mercy and are high Rank Players but not Pro Level.
I personally still have fun with Mercy (most of the Time).
I hate stupid Moments where i go for a rez and a lucio speedboost makes me walk 1 little step out of range and cancel everything, or the fact that sometimes i already hear mercy say her line to rez but then i die or get ccd and my rez is just gone and my teammate is as confused as me cause they always say they see them in the resurected animation already.
And i miss my 60 hp/s but you can manage with her current hps just fine.
I like the Idea of the Movement but as you said some don't want to see the other side of the coin.
Aswell as People like stylosa who only read massrez and go on a full blown rant (atleast that's how i feel)
Personally i would like to see blizzard trying something out on the ptr for mercy even if it won't come through to live.
Maybe like Stylosa said a kind of Heal-Uber-Charge ability. Or maybe another ability replacing rez while keeping valkyrie (i actually really like that ultimate)
I just don't like feeling powerless in valk, which i do, not always, but when i feel my heal isn't enough and my team can't hit anything to make use of damage boost.
I think calling Valk a "Spectator Mode" is a bit too far fetched. If you feel like your valk has no impact and was not needed you can still shoot people. (As long as no one needs heals that is)
Mercy may be weak(er) now but she is not a trash tier.
The one thing i really wish for is a sign from blizzard. In the End they are the only ones that can fix the current situation.

I’m mid-plat Ps4 and my issue with Mercy is simply she doesn’t do enough healing, everyone knows she’s meant to be a main healer yet is out healed by many other healers.
Power Boost, while if used correctly, can be great, I’ve noticed that, at least on PS4, in the lower ranks (Bronze to Gold) not a lot of people understand what damage boost does or fully know what it actually can damage boost.
While I wouldn’t mind if they kept it in I honestly wouldn’t mind if they took it out and replaced it with something else or just took it out altogether.
Not only that, Valk for me just isn’t fun.
I wouldn’t mind an Ult that had similar impact but felt more better than a simple spectator mode.
Admittedly everyone’s opinions are different and that’s completely okay, but Mercy can only do one thing at a time, she either heals, power boosts, revives an ally or has her pistol out. Mercy can’t, heal and attack like Zen, Moira, Lucio or Brig.

If mercy stays as she is, this number of unhappy players isn’t going to get smaller... and even if I weren’t one of them, I wouldn’t want overwatch to become a place that holds players hostage in that feeling, since it’s the only place we can experience mercy (or insert your favorite character here) - even if she feels like rubbing sandpaper against itself, and even if players constantly yell hateful things at us for just being here, and for not being happy with how mercy feels right now.
    Edit:
Whatever the hell blizzard does, if they dare to allow the mercy AI to have mass rez in junkenstein again while NOT letting me finally try it (since I’ve never gotten to try old mercy and have always been curious), I’m just gonna hit my disc with a hammer until I feel better, and then go back to role playing games for good. Updating the summoner for her rework but not the witch was NOT COOL, blizzard devs >:(

I don´t think mass ress is a good idea. But even if "fun" is something subjective... mercy is being boring to too many people. And man, Im not a pro player, but in my experience as main GM Mercy since the openbeta, I have to say that´s really boring to play with her. We don´t have that "oh la la" moment that we feel we are doing the difference. Like Moira that heals all team and kill the enemy team, or when you press Q with Ana on a Genji with ultimate... Using Mercy´s ultimate nowadays it´s like being a healing spectator bot just to see your allies dying. The only meanfull time it´s when you are allowed to energy boost them. She really needs a rework. And I will not compare her healing with Ana or Moira because everything that she does, Ana and Moira do the same thing (or better) but damaging a lot the enemies, blocking their healing, putting to sleep with awsome ultimates.

I understand that you still enjoy playing mercy still, but the point is that when the player base was asked if they think mercy is fun to play, the majority of those who answered said no. Maybe it is too opinionated to change simply because some people find Mercy boring, but democratically, the active Mercy community wants her to be changed.

I’m glad to hear that there are still people that enjoy mercy as she is. I like her (I guess), but I think that she can be more than this. Here is an idea for a rework that I had:
Replace E: Resurrect with E: Saving Grace
Saving Grace: Mercy puts Guardian Angel on cooldown for 2 seconds and places a waypoint anywhere from 0-20 meters away from her (including the sky). Mercy can fly to the waypoint at any time for 10 seconds. The ability has a 20 second cooldown.
Replace Ultimate: Valkyrie with Ultimate: Resurrect.
Resurrect: Mercy resurrects a single ally within 5 meters of her, and then puts resurrect on a 2 second cooldown. She can then continue to resurrect people for up to 8 seconds, maximizing at 4 people.

I completely agree! I feel if people want mercy to get a buff I'd like to suggest a change that rewards the mercy if she's doing good or rewards the enemy team for killing her. For example, rez instead of being an ult on cool down could become a mini ult on healing/dmgboosting. So each second healing or every damage made whilst boosting fills up a mini gauge for a rez? This way when you valkyrie you'll be charging that rez up really fast in team fights! I feel like this would be a fun and interactive way to make her rez fun and skillful. And it won't be broken because if the enemy team manages to kill the mercy then they negate any rez that fight! Idk, I love mercy. Even if she isn't "changed"/"reworked", I still have a lot of fun and I'm proud to be a mercy main! (But ofc I'd really appreciate my 60hps back if nothing else happens plz Bliss! ^-^" just a little something would just make my day!)

Orisa ult damage boosts for 50% (not the 30% on valk) and it's line of sight. It had also a buff to the ult cost. It feels very impactful when you're playing her although it's highly counterable. Dmg boosting during valk is just a low rent version of discord orb.

So something I’ve noticed that is common when it comes to discussing Mercy is that there are mainly two sides to it which are Pro Mass Resurrect and Pro Valkyrie. Either one side wants a revert with adjustments and the other side believes she’s either balance or Valkyrie buffs.
Whilst it’s understandable why, sadly even if a rework/revert was done, one side will not be happy at all so instead of doing either only Mass Resurrect or Valkyrie, why can’t we have both?
Mainly my concept is that Mass Rez and Valkyrie are a singular ultimate but are two sub ultimates, similar to Symmetra’s old ultimate where she could choose either Teleporter or Shield Generator. This at least makes both sides happy since they can choose the type of play style they want.
Those who love Valkyrie but hate Mass Rez can choose to use Valkyrie without worrying.
Those who love Mass Rez but hate Valkyrie can choose to use Mass Rez without worrying.
Either way, it’s a win-win for everyone and along with proper adjustments such as a decent healing and damage boost in Valkyrie, LoS and Cast time in Mass Rez. Might make Mercy balanced a bit.
Obviously this won’t satisfy everyone and there’s no way to test this either but if it satisfies a majority of players, I’m happy with that.
    What do you guys think?

  • @saskeru9346

Solutions to make Mercy feel more impactful:
    1) Dual wielding staff and pistol.
    2) Change Guardian Angel into a free flight ability instead of a one direction ability.
    3) Bring back Mass Rez with the 2 second cast time and half health allies. So many people talk about Mass Rez 1.0 and completely ignore the fact any ability is capable of being changed. Mass Rez does not have to be 1.0.

I agree with the movement and what people are saying.
She is fun, to a degree. But she is NOT balanced at all. Her healing output is the worst in the game for being a character that CAN ONLY HEAL (and use a weak peashooter).
Mercy's ult is incredibly underpowered. Her rez cooldown and cast time ARE TOO LONG.
I have played over watch since launch and I can see people frustrations cause when Valk first came it was overpowered with her increase in fire rate and speed made her hard to hit and turned her into battle mercy. But the nerfs that came were too strong.
I think we need to give mercy a Rez meter similar to Moiras healing meter. Like the more you heal the more people you can end up rezing. If they could polish this so it isnt OP it could make mercy useful again. Right now Moira and Ana are my main healers and I used to play mercy all the time but now she just doesnt cut it with her healing output.
For a character that's built just to heal, shes terrible at it.

As someone who has been playing Mercy since season 2, played all iteration of Mercy and have been looking around this whole reworkMercy movement generally had me confused, cus all I wanted was the healing back or to at least be 55hps. I've watched her vids on Mercy and while I can understand where she is coming from, general frustration about the rework Mercy how it came out and the adapting to 14 nerfs afterwards and that how it all started was because of the whole deletebrig thing and wanting to make a more healthier version of that, which I do agree with, deletbrig was just full of toxicity on all ends, I can't agree with everything she says. Fun is subjective, plain and simple, some ppl like mass rezz while others like myself doesn't I'd prefer Valk, a character shouldn't be fully reworked just because its not fun to select group and there is just a general refusal of thinking that Valk is fun in any shape or form with Aria and her followers.
Like you pointed out, she is not quite open to criticism, every comment I put under her vids gets a heart if I agree and if I have a small disagreement with any part its ignored, she doesn't discuss it with me and her followers are also similarly don't want to discuss the disagreement, only throwing hateful slurs and just saying I'm wrong with my opinion with no reason given as to why.
Last point because its getting long, she criticises Stylosa for only listening to pros, and yet she does the same thing but with only putting emphasis on the casual community, and don't mistake this as saying that the casuals don't have a place to say, they do, but they don't or not willing to understand where the pros and diamond and above or in general the highly competitive community part of OW. In my opinion, since this game is toted as a competitive game, the highly competitive community are just as important as the casual side because while casual come and they go with OW, the competitive side, they are loyal, they will study the game and will most likely go through the ups and down of OW, whereas casuals just leave when it gets bad, then comeback either for events or a change happened that temporarily regains their interest before leaving again. Even in her vid with the other Mercy mains, who are streamers not necessarily pro but far more competitive than her (Vale, EeveeA, StarD2 and others) and she is generally dismissive of their opinions and its quite clear that her knowledge on Mercy pales in comparison to theirs. Even on her vid with pro player Daisya, she put up this facade in front of him that she is understanding of his opinion but in her comment section she hearted only the ones who were entirely dismissive of all of the fairly reasonable thoughts of the highly competitive community side and reading their comments a complete inability to even understand what impact Mercy has in the higher tiers and again generally dismissive that the thought of her being fun in anyway right now.
Anyway sorry for the long rant, thank you if you took the time to read this and Happy Holidays to you.

Well worded and enjoyable video! I don’t necessarily believe she needs a rework, but I do think there are ways we can improve her ultimate and healing output. I personally think she could use a healing buff, I think 60hp/s was nice for her and I think her ult would benefit from a 65-70hp/s for the 15 second duration. I think the reason why a lot of people find her ultimate useless is because the team doesn’t know how to utilize her support. I’m in high plat and I definitely find teams who, even if they manage to stick together, don’t know that her ult can be very useful and therefore don’t really take full advantage of it, and which most of the playerbase being in plat or lower, it feels like she has virtually no impact even if she can be incredibly useful. I love when I use valk and my damage boost helps win team fights or healing helps me save teammates who otherwise would have died or when my flight keeps me safe whilst supporting my team or even when my unlimited ammo can help dispose of a widow that was a huge threat and help my team push through a choke point. I just think a lot of mercy mains have been feeling extra down because blizzard and the community really hasn’t treated her kindly and it’s a lot of pent up anger or annoyance.

Hey, I just wanted to add my opinion into the mix! I've been playing Mercy since the game was in beta and have almost 200 hours on her alone. Right now, for me personally, Mercy is no longer the fun hero I know and love. When the ult rework first came out I was curious how it might stack up. I never hid when I first played Mercy and I honestly wouldn't just go for big rezzes but would be careful with who I brought back with consideration to where the enemy was. So the first ult rework was great! I thought it was really fun then but once they took from it to leave Mercy the way she is now, it's just no longer fun and I almost never use the ult to res quickly now or really do anything other than if I needed a chain heal going. I know some people probably don't understand how people could say she isn't fun but everyone feels differently and I hope people can realize that there is a group of us who feel this way and that neither group invalidates the other's thoughts.

As someone who's played a lot of mercy I think she could be more engaging to play with a skilled damage aspect. I thought it might be cool if her guardian angel almost acted as a genji swift-strike where it does a smaller amount of damage to enemies she flies through. That way if it's Mercy, a teammate, and an enemy are all contesting a point together, it could make for cool strategic positioning where Mercy can help her teammate whittle down her enemy with guardian angel almost passively. Idk maybe that'd be too powerful with damage boost? I'm low rank so it might be a dumb idea.

  • @ihavecrabs56

this is how i would change mercy. make guardian angel have no cooldown. replace her res with a superjump where she can jump/float around (this would have to be tested for duration/cd/height/etc). exchange her ult with a single target res that charges quick. this will capitalize on what makes mercy fun (jumping around teammate to teammate) without infringing on her identity (mobile healer/res bot).

  • @adriennpinter5987
    @adriennpinter5987 5 лет назад +1

i disagree with what you said about valk - it's true that sometimes it will give your team a boost and might even secure a point, or even a game. but a lot of times even with an off-healer valk is not enough to heal through the amount of damage your teammates receive, making her a non-viable main healer. i also often find myself switching to a different support during a match simply because mercy's healing is not enough (especially as a main healer). now i know that increasing her healing would probably fix that problem (and don't get me wrong, even that slight change would be enough for me), i would still prefer a rework that would make her feel more engaging and rewarding, a sort of high risk high reward charchter. this is why i think that mass rez wouldn't be that bad with some tweaks. i know it can be a gamble, but that's why it has such a high reward. but that's just my opinion.

I wouldn’t mind mass Rez coming back but it shouldn’t held in such high regard as it was previously. Every potg was mercy Rez and mercy mains shouldn’t climb to master and gms by being a bot and just hiding for Rez. Those literally ruined high Elo games cus you get 3 mercy mains who can’t do shit but press Q/Y. I do think mass Rez should come back because of how powerful ultimate combos are tho. Then you’d have to coordinate your ults even better OR not have to rely on them so heavily.

To be honest I feel this whole Mercy movement is way too split. I get that people are not happy about Mercies current state and that she is a very popular character and that is why there is a lot of fuss about it atm, but I feel first of all people have different reasons for not liking the current Mercy, second of all they have no idea how to effectively change her so they advocate for her to be reverted, and third of all I agree with your echo-chamber comment, they often just listen to themselves and assume most people agree with them, and whoever doesnt isnt worth listening to.
Mercy is in a weird place, and I definitely get the people who'd like for her to be a bit different because it feels like Mercies gameplay is less exciting moment-to-moment and more about good positioning, awareness and maybe even shotcalling to a degree. Less about clutch moment plays (which the mass rez used to be, although there is also more fascets to that that pro players rightfuly highlighted with the whole "hiding till you can rez" stuff).
I wouldnt even be generally against bringing a better rez version back, but rezzing more than 3 teammates would IMO just break the game. Even the simple rez we have now can sometimes singlehandedly turn a game around. And what did a Mercy really do for it on an individual level? Press a button. Much like a lot of other abilities that the very same "reworkMercy" people criticise on other characters. Like many abilities in the game its more about knowing when to do it, having patience, talking to your team, etc And that is a good thing. Massrez was just too powerful. Its like introducing an ability that can kill an entire team of enemies off the map without any counter-play, that would be equally OP.
There were many ideas about area-of-effect healing bursts, or changes to Mercies primary healing beam or offensive capabilities, replacements of the E ability for something else, that could make Mercy fun, engaging and kind of elevate her moment-to-moment gameplay beyond pressing mouse1 and mouse2 and flying between teammates. And I feel those things are worth looking at, they really are.
But I also think no matter which direction you take, ultimately someone will be unhappy. Since there are so many Mercy players who have different ideas of what would make Mercy more fun, relevant or powerful again you will always have a group that will be unhappy with the changes that will be introduced, no matter what you change. That Mercy needs a change sooner or later is something I ultimately agree on though.
