  • We get asked all the time about the benefits of the Hutchinson rims so we thought we would put a video together to explain this and also to provide a step-by-step process in the fitment of these rims with tyres. We hope that this is helpful to all our Hutchinson rim owners!

    I managed to put my 4 beadlocks on 14.00 R20 alone before this video was out. I had no experience and it was not easy. Thanks so much UNIDAN as usual for the fast lesson and little tricks for next time. I also do recommends Hutchinson, they are expensive, but best value for the money. drive safe.

    Any vehicle that are work on I always use never seize or some type of Grease and I always tell other people even the wheel nuts on your car when you change your wheel but never sees on your wheel studs same principle applies to motorbikes and thank you for your input on changing those truck tyres thank you very much

    Thank you I'm upgrading to Hutchison CTIS on a U500 right now and this is super helpful.

    How much torque on that wrench?

  • @wagz
    @wagz Год назад +3

    A few questions: 1) what is the substance that the mechanic painted on the bolt threads? 2) Switching from MB CTIS wheels to Hutchinson requires a different air hose fitting. Where can I find those adapters or fittings? 3) MB book says 600-650 nm torque on the wheel bolts. What is the torque spec for the Hutchinson flange bolts? Thanks again, great stuff!

      The substance is called anti seize

    Perhaps a bottle jack pushing up a square tube steel with a hole saw cut in it to fit snout of jack ?

    Great informative video. Thanks.
    Can you do CTIS with the Hutchinson rims? I didn't see anything there on them rims, but maybe there is a variant of the RIM that does have it?

    • @unidanengineering
      @unidanengineering  Год назад +2

      Yes you can. We have a modification for the CTIS for this rim. This wheel and tyre was actually going to be fitted to a truck with CTIS.

    I couldn't help but notice a pair of (presumably hydraulic) jacks mounted on the winch bar of the Unimog behind. What are those? Is it a in-house developed product? Really curious to know about it. Can it also help for recovery purpose, like if you get stuck in sand?

    • @unidanengineering
      @unidanengineering  Год назад +1

      Hi there,
      The vehicle in the background has hydraulic levelling legs so that when you set up at camp you can be perfectly flat. We have designed and developed this by integrating it into our bull bar. We wouldn’t recommend it for recovery purposes (you really shouldn’t get stuck in sand in a Unimog) but if it was a matter of saving your truck or not then these could be helpful if used appropriately.

    Might pay just to run over the safety of inflating a tyre. If ppl are checking for leaks while it’s inflating and with in 1m there dead if it’s over 25ish psi and it pops from damage or incorrect fitting.
    Very small chance with this style of rim but it’s the most important part of the whole activity. Great vid guys and thanks for info👌

    Not sure if i missed it but what torque do you do the wheel nuts on Hutchinson alloys... I've heard anything between 400nm and 600nm !

    thanks for the very interesting video...I always follow you with pleasure. Could you tell me if you can use the same technique with the rubber beadlock? Is it possible to insert the beadlock inside the wheel without suffering too much? Thank you!!!

    Will a few g clams work if you don’t have a crane to close the bolt hole distance when sealing the rim?

    • @unidanengineering
      @unidanengineering  Год назад +2

      If you don’t have a crane then this is where you have the wooden blocks underneath the rim throughout the process (ie. put them under the rim prior to putting the tyre on the rim). That way the tyre will still be off the ground and the rim will sit in the right position for the bolts 👍🏼

    Do you run balance beads with your wheel and tires. Do you get a lot of unbalanced tires going down the road?

    • @unidanengineering
      @unidanengineering  Год назад +2

      We don’t normally run balance beads because you can’t run them with central tyre inflation (in case a bead gets into the air system). If they do need balancing then weights are used externally.

    Pro tip for any tight fitting tyre change on any wheel, even bicycles. Leave your rim in the shade and your tyre out in the sun for 15-30 minutes. Dont forget to flip it like grilling a burger.

    Comment on Kopper Kote // Anti-Seize It does reduce the friction so de TORQUE anything you tighten up. I do mine to 75%. Works so far!!!!!!!!
    YOU Can use your clamp for the tire spreading you did.
    As well laying the flanged side down allows sand to stick to the face which then changes the ability to torque. an argument I have at the tire place most times.
    As well anyone with flanged nuts which are for the slightly smaller tires. {{{{{{ OIL THEM }}} COST ME A ?? >$1,000.00 WAS NOT HAPPY AT ALL.
