- Alex Brundle recently got in touch and asked if I'd like to drive his 65' Ford Mustang around Donington, with the chance of racing it later in the year. It was an easy yes.
My race at Brands Hatch:

The way that man physically recoiled at your incident was funny
Why was it not shown?
@@bjornironsides6474 its in the first 30 secs of the video lol.
@@jonsnow3176 the incident, not the guy recoiling from the screen. The part where Steve is hit pans away.
@@bjornironsides6474 Because its in a previous video, he wants you to watch it
the amount of counter steering on display makes it look like a rally onboard almost, what a monster of a car.
I am from the 70's, My first car, I had to counter steer to keep a straight line. 😉
@@VelhaGuardaTricolor My first car had barely enough power to go in a straight line, which was very helpful for keeping things safe :D
its a 1960's mustang. the rear tires would be considered "donuts" by todays standards, and the car spent more time sideways going in a straight line than it did turning.
Thats why they’re called boats
Kudos for limit pushing within limits, what a beaut of a car. Something of a bonus to have the Brundle family on your side!
Dude is literally playing Gran Turismo irl at this point
Daily race C
Good to see Scott Chegg driving a proper race car. 😎
Good luck on the race this weekend. 🏁
"There's going to be lots of learning today."
Immediately unable to open car door. 😂
You can always use the American "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" excuse about the shifter being on the wrong side; works every time.
12:19 - those moves are 🔥I can see the Bilstein trio popping and locking their way into the world of hip hop dance comps in their racing kit.
Man that car sounds amazing
Why am I proud of this person, whom I have never met? I couldn’t be happier for you Steve. Been watching since you were chase cam on controller. The term Shadow Realm is being used in American sports and in hip hop. From influencer to taste-maker. Stay humble as you are, and you will go far. Cheers!
It's so cool you've gone from playing silly Forza to now being on track with real racing cars like this, so many of us viewers are proud of you with all your success lately Steve!!!
getting comfortable with older cars that move around so much under you isn't something a lot of people used to modern cars can handle. nice job
Very cool. You got the feeling of the car really quickly, great job.
Nice you finally decided to join some real life daily race A action.
That’s gonna be a wild experience if it’s the full course at Brands, that circuit can be a bit of a handful in a high grip car, I can’t imagine what it’ll be like in that Mustang.
There is something that gets ya right in the soul when ya drive a machine so that is so raw and spartan. I love it.
perfect timing for this video, i grabbed a bowl of ice cream and came back to a new super gt vid.
watching these cars around donnington park earlier this month was magical, ngl i was a bit nervous when a couple of the mustangs almost wrecked in the final chicane, but the noise from the mustangs, and (earlier in the day) the AC and Shelby cobras was just pure music
What a beauty! (The car..)
Steve is a beauty (the car aint bad too)
@@MA-jz4yc Whatever floats your boat! 😁
3:50 it looked like the Sofa Car xD
looking good
That wreckfest reference killed me lmao
get in there Steve !!
Lol perfect
The oversteer and understeer is so extreme.. it's like you're basically just a passenger, politely asking the car to go vaguely in a direction you want :-)
Thank you for showcasing your eagerness to always learn new driving techniques, the older cars are so raw and analog you really have to lock in, you only become a stronger driver the more cars you can experience!
Great job Mr. Speed.
If I could add a few notes for those that haven't actually driven cars like this.
The "Heel Toe" thing is something that you need to really THINK about, the Why? At first.
Then, the feel of What you Need to go faster should come naturally.
In a car like that there would be a lot of engine braking and the need to keep your RPMS up.
While downshifting alone will increase rpms, that increase is the Drivetrain/Wheels forcing the motor to turn faster.
You need to get ahead of that drag so, coming out of a turn, the engine rpm and its trajectory is where it needs to be to get maximum power.
Imagine driving one of these in the 24 hrs of Le Mans or something back in the day. Just the sheer amount of work to keep the car going straight is insane
Amazing driving skills. Sound of car is like hard rock music 😊 Full throtle in way out sounds so good. Nice, nice.
Man's gone from sending people to the Shadow Realm on virtual race tracks to sharing a real track with Shadow Can Am cars. Ya love to see it.
All the best for the race this weekend and getting a good result with a fun race!
Steering alone looked like a task in itself
I got to align (and test drive) a fully hand restored 65 Mustang the other day at work. It's such an amazing machine, even with the one I had having a 289 paired to a 3spd. Makes my Mk7 feel like a toy, and I actually stalled my car after driving the Mustang XD. I definitely need an old classic in my life, I loved how connected you are to that machine that can't be felt in todays cars
Your approach is so amazing, really enjoying real racing vids, wish you all the best in this field
Great camera view Steve! I love being able to also see what’s behind you as you put down laps. Keep it up 👍🏾
Cool seeing Steve at Track day with millions of dollars worth of cars speeding past
Takes so much more skill then a modern racecar
Not more just different
Old-school cars require you to get VERY familiar with their layouts lmao, stick shifts give tremendous personal control that autos don't allow.
This looks awesome. Really enjoying watching your progression as a racing driver. Good luck at Brands Hatch!
wow sharing the track with some spectacular cars like that shadow lowline prototype 3:53 crazy bit of kit , great driving out there
This was awesome but my god, that brief moment of gt40! like a choir of angels.
Man I would LOVE to drive that thing around... Real racing is made from a manual transmission. Feels so much more lively.
*cuts to mustang on its roof and Steve standing beside it casually calling it as an "embarrassing moment. No biggie."
Pretty quick learning with the heel & toe, I remember right when I got my licence, I spent a week practicing off brake double clutch rev match, and another week doing "false" then "true" heel & toe.
Hope you guys have a good race !
I started practicing heel toe downshifting a few months ago in my wrx. It takes some practice but once you get it down it’s so much better for keeping balance
Good stuff. The sim learning experience is similar (rf2 Trans AM Golden Years): relearn you brake distances, throttle to steer, get used to opposite lock.
Huge fun to drive but very very tricky to race consistently.
Of course, not as much fun as you got doing it for real😀
as a carlover i apriciate the moment of silence and jsut pure oldschool v8 sounds
10:15 that was a nice Drift👍
Gran Turismo 8 looks wild
I never expected to so my favorite RUclipsr driving my favorite car. But miracles do happen,
If you drive in Assetto Corsa 1, you will be very well prepared for your future race. The similarity of your real driving with Assetto Corsa simulation in a similar car is impressive.

Vintage cars in the 50s and 60s did not have driving assists such as:
Traction control
Stability control
ABS brakes
Vintage cars were pure mechanics.
Fantastic Steve! What an amazing step to take! It’s been great to watch you develop, thanks for showing us the whole journey
Remembering that sound of the Mustang since the days of Burnout and Juiced. Its still amazing how that engine roars timelessly.
Commentator a very successful racing driver** Alex Brundle. Good luck this weekend, was here today and will be over the weekend!
Looks like a GT7 open lobby
Falling asleep to super gt is not a myth. Some times it takes me a whole day to watch a 15min video 😊
Old mustangs are simply on top 💯
There's just nothing like the sound of a vintage American V8.
At 3:54 I genuinely though that was a sofa car from Wreckfest for a moment.
How wonderful you get to be Abby's teammate!
That overshoot is very common when learning heel toe or driving a new car. You did great bro
What a great experience for you,Steve. Good luck this weekend!
Just going in a straight line looked like it required a lot of steering!
And heel-toe is really tricky! A skill I don’t at all!
Great video! What a car! 😃
Never thought I'd be watching Steve ripping it around in a Mustang. Congratulations on your journey!
A good amount of power from the relatively small V8, plus fairly skinny tires = Lots Of Fun.
By the way, Steve, first-gen Mustang body parts are still readily available!
This car is just legendary, I absolutely love it!
I’m happy for Super GT, living the dream 🏎️
Glad to see there were no trips to the shadow realm or meetups with Barry R. 😆
Super cool you got to meet Abby Eaton and race alongside her! Loved her on the Grand Tour.
Love to see the mustang love steve❤
Amazing stuff. Really enjoying watching you try all these different disciplines. Hopefully you keep setting these opportunities
Steve enjoying Cristal Castles Kerosine at @11:46
Yup, GT7 really nailed these physics.
Alex is a very generous man
This gentleman is truly living the dream
wow.... what a car! so wild to drive. u did so well!
I was at brand hatch watching you Abbie done great
But you almost came out of the track😮Kate and Jim loved it
Thanks for being humble and showing the mistakes! Great work driving some Americana!
The hilarity of a Gen-Zer jumping into what us Gen-Xers would consider a proper "normal" street (race) car and then claiming its hard work having to actually shift gears like the many generations of men that came before him is not lost on me.. Haha.
Next up, a FIA GT2 spec race car from the late 90s, early 2000s, like the 7.0L v12 650HP Lister Storm GT, with a stick sequential shifter. Why? Because that is your history.. None of that pansy SRO GT3 push button nonsense with traction control and ABS..
Light hearted windups aside, though, I'm glad you took the chance to do that. You should look into old school Ford Capri and Escort racing. Simple and fun. I feel a certain amount of pride and respect watching you do that. Keep on rocking it and yeah that Mustang was pretty cool.
Oh look it's another typical gen this gen that whiner trying to get some non existent ego boost over something he never even did himself. Pathetic as always.
Man, there is some SWEET rides in the vid! 👍 Steve.
Not sure if this applies but to add extra level of difficulty usually the historic cars have to run the skinny tires of that era. In some cases bias ply. Not sure if thats the case. Does look like street tires.
The steering inputs are crazy
Heel toe is best practiced on the street. I’m slightly stunned you are just now learning it. Hehe
Older cars are a lot of work. I can imagine you'll be very thankful to be back in the BMW.
Not that I doubted, but I’m impressed with your skills there.
Lol-ing at the wheel input under acceleration
Would love to see you experience australian V8 supercars.
when it comes to driving older cars, keep in mind that they usually have no assists like traction control and the lot, so that means its just you and the car so you have to let your "driving instinct" take over. idk if you're doing this or not
A beautiful piece of history to drive! You drove it like a champ
You should drive a DB5, Super GT, because it’s a 60’s Gran Touring car with more torque and cornering.
Brundle has great taste in cars.
mustangs are so beautiful man
What a gorgeous machine with an even more beautiful sounding engine and I'm only a little lot jealous of you for being able to drive it
Speaking of which, I lived in a small village in Cornwall where someone there owned a (I think) '67 mustang in a metallic light blue colour, and that was beautiful, especially in the summer when the metallic paint would catch in the sunlight and really accentuate the lines, but I never got to hear them fire it up and drive it, which gives me the sads
Also, for those who've seen one in person, is it just me or do they seem really diminutive and petite compared to what they look like on TV and in films? Maybe it's just that I'm not from the US and don't see them all that often, but in person they're much smaller looking than you'd expect even though they're not much smaller than their main competitors from the time.
Would love to be there to watch you race, but unfortunately I don't have any money or the means of getting there, but I wish you all the best
1 million! coming soon!
YOoOO Abbie Eaton!! That rocks dude
Donnington is one of my favourite circuits 👌
As a canadian, this is awesome.
Hello Steve, I'm here at home and I'm going to be watching your video
Old cars were no joke to drive
I hope you always make video like this
I'm sure this much more fun to drive and push than a GT car
