Just got one. Re: clutch. If you turn the prop with the lower unit off of the motor I think you will find that the clutch housing that the pads engage wobbles in a vertical direction. I beat mine with a hammer until it was straight.
G’day mate, I saw your first video on this motor a few nights ago and just now spotted your follow up! Oh dear, you’ve run out of petrol straight up lol. That clutch has worn out very quickly but all in all a great review with this motor. Thanks so much for sharing. Cheers from Down Under.
Something I noted to not do again. That is, do not run a two stroke engine out of gas at full Throttle. The oil it receives is mixed with the gas. So when you run out of gas, you also Run out of lubricant. I don’t think you hurt it this time. But if indeed in the future you feel it Running out of gas, shut it down. It worrying me when you kept it at full throttle this time. I hope I helped, with my warning. God Bless.
Looking at the wear the clutch housing and pads are mismatched, the clutch would have only been biting on about half of the center which would have wore it fast for the first while. If they were matched the wear would have been uniform....
I bought a similar 52cc outboard. Clutch would not grab until almost full throttle and had no power. Took it apart and the clutch had a wear pattern about a 1/2 wide in the center. Turned out to be a 75mm clutch in a 77mm drum. They must make various products using both sizes and either mixed them up or were being scheming cheap manufacturers.
have you considered replacing the clutch part since it worn out? Do you think the reason for clutch damage maybe due to long usage or you missed some oil or maintenence?
@PatOutdoors after going down the rabbit hole the 12hp (9.9hp clone) Will be my ideal engine. It'll be enough to get 20ish mph from a 10-12ft aluminum flat bottom, and not be killing me weight wise everytime I take it off, and they are currently cheap enough at $800+/- Plodding along a lake/pond or creek at 9mph is find but you'll be going almost no where in a faster river

Good follow up review. I found the clutch part useful as I still haven’t unbox mine because of pandemic lockdown here in Australia.

I've had mine for over a year now and I like it. For the price it's not a bad motor. Starts up every time without fail. Easy to start too.
Glad to hear!

Jeez.. I ended up replacing my clutch with a different one and it grabs much better now.

Do you have to put gear oil in them and can you put it through the hole you showed?
Do they make an upgraded clutch?
I know there are some people changing springs, just curious if they offer any upgrades
I’m sure there are upgraded options if you go on pocket bike modification websites for 49cc. Just make sure you got the right size

Done great for what you paid.
6 uses is a terrible performance record. Most boat motors last years with an occasional impeller change.
