In this video, we discuss the HK slap. Should you do it? Should you not? Is it useful or does it just look cool?

If I see someone load an MP5 without slapping it I'm going to stare at them funny for the rest of the day.
My 2 cents!! I bought an HK 91 308 n 1992 new in the box. The mainspring is horrendously heavy. I will slap the bitch if I feel like it but not for the most part. While still new in cold weather I slapped it and the plastic on the charging handle shattered. HK sent me a new one and it has rubber in place of the hard plastic. Chad is correct about wear on the catch, although 9 mil versus 308 is a different matter. So you do you and don't worry about other people. And yes I do realize the MP5 charging handle has no plastic or rubber. Eric and Chad great work thank you always.
Sorry minor mistake on my reply I purchased my HK91 a decade earlier 1982
Amen.
We also did a video about the "HK slap" and a lot of people mentioned the manual.
But i guess not many people know that "the slap" was only put in the US manual because there were problems with operators riding the charging handle and causing malfunctions.
I talked with two German soldiers and both said that they were strictly forbidden to do "the slap" when working with the MP5.
Personally im not against the slap but there are many better and more ergonomic techniques that i prefer to use
makes sense
They should pin this 👍
My SP5K manual doesn’t mention the slap but it does tell you to let the bolt snap forward.
@@aviatorgamer3057 is your manual in english?
@@PolenarTactical yea
I went to HK courses back when HK’s Training Division was ran by the Former British SAS Trooper, Phil Singleton.
I was taught the Slap directly from him.
Don't do it! Noooo!
Speed in a life and death scenario, slapping makes sense. For a range toy, eventually if you slap enough, the issues Chad describes occur. I’ve seen it on rental guns in Vegas as one example, where you can tell they had repeatedly worked on that notch to smooth it back out.
Most don’t use MP-5’s for any type of self defense, so no reason to slap. Also, respecting other peoples property comes into play.
If your grandma told you Cleopatra was black would you believe that too ancient person?
The most efficient way would be to push down and follow the bolt forward while it slams home, but not slapping feels wrong.
@bannedbycommieyoutube5time920
Not speed. It actually wastes a ton of time to slap. Only purpose is for simplicity for someone with poor memory
I slap my HK MP5 SBR like it owes me money lol
Slap it for the 5 it owes me
Need a video with PSR!!! That would be the perfect crossover!
I had to pause the video right after Chad said no because he is definitely wrong. Gun Jesus was told by HK themselves that you're supposed to slap them. I would say what they say goes. LoL
That's what I remembered too, so Idk why anyone would think otherwise.
@KillerSpace2726 guessing Chad never saw that. 🤣
It's more marketing wank than defensive tactics.
@@herrcobra4144perhaps he doesn’t know GUN JESUS!
I have significant time behind both an MP5 and a G3, the MP5 doesn’t need to be slapped but the G3 absolutely needs to be slapped otherwise it will malfunction
Try running a G3 without slapping it and you’re in for a malfunction party
Yup , send that thing forward .
How does slapping it do anything different than just holding it to the rear, lowering it out of the notch and letting go? I slap both my MP5 clone and 91 clone, but I don't see what the slap accomplishes for reliable chambering that pulling back and letting go doesn't.
@@ryknoll3 In fact, pulling it back and letting go gives the bolt even MORE momentum than the slap because there is that extra centimeter or so of travel due to pulling it back.
Yes please do an mp5 comparison video! I'm planning on getting one next year and would love to see a comparison between the Century, Zenith, PTR, and HK. Do a full deep dive, talk about the trigger packs and how the shelf is different then a pinned and such. Cause I know nothing on all that.
One of my shooting buddies is a former German soldier who carried the G3. He said they were forbidden to "slap" the charging handle because (a) it causes additional wear and (b) it actually slightly reduces the bolt velocity because if you slingshot it, you are pulling it back about a centimeter more than if you just slap it.
Yup my G3 as a conscript was from the 60s, slaps were forbidden bc of wear but what would you expect from a gun seeing 40 years of basic training😅
@@JCU2803 I wonder also if another part of the reason why the slap was forbidden was that the slap could over time cause more wear on the plastic cocking handle itself? The older all metal cocking handle wouldn't have this problem.
The green plastic part that is molded over the "stem" of the handle seems like it lasts for a pretty good while--maybe 10, 15 years or longer before the plastic starts to become brittle and develop cracks, but I've seen one at my range literally go flying off the rifle as the bolt was sent forward.
I stopped using "the slap" several years ago, and granted the plastic handle on the rifle was probably *at least* 15-20 years old when I put it on my rifle around 2010, but the handle seems to have developed enough of a crack over the years from the plastic itself degrading that it slipped completely off.
Please do a show on the different variations of the MP5. Love to learn more on this one.
Psr does perfectly fine lol
Love his song for it too.
I mean, a Romanian PSL is an upscaled AK, but the SVD is a standalone design
(I have a PSL-54)
I have one, the novelty of slapping it died off very quickly. It's just far more efficient when inserting the mag to reach up with your thumb and flick the charging handle off its notch to send the bolt home.
Hk Mp5 the sexiest gun of all time
Yup
Truth has been spoken
That's why you slap it.
I'm glad you guys talked about this famous reload mechanic
Good information on the subject at hand guys . Take care and be safe
Been waiting on your next video thanks guys for all your hard work for us to enjoy your content
My first gun is a GSG-5, the MP5 clone chambered in .22LR and of course I've done the HK slap. The novelty does wear off and there is always the mindset of wearing the parts out. But I do still do it from time to time. On the last round the bolt holds open on the GSG-5 so I always have to pull back during a reload and usually just let it go.
The style is classic and timeless and I would love to shoot a 9mm version but I can't justify the price at all. I'm good with my .22LR plinker version.
Lol... Chad talking about not slapping. Had fun watching this discussion. I have an AP5 I'm waiting on a form 1 for. I don't always slap it, but when I do...I do it with a smile!
Eric going "Yeeaaaa...." cracked me up . Funny how many times I've seen this in movies but never knew why since I don't know much about these rifles.
You don't sound like you know much about guns, HK slap is from the manuals.
The manual’s issued with the MP5 and HK91/G3s literally say that’s how you’re supposed to do it
Yes, as they say in the video.
4:51
They literally go over this in the video, including showing the text itself....
Loved the banter between you two in this video and the ending with the final slap haha! Great friendly video that brought up a good conversation on the operation. Look forward to more of these with someone taking the devils advocate role !
everyone needs to experience the HK slap at least once
Listen, I didn’t come all this way for you to just be gentle with me alright? I need you to slap me hard; I need to go into battery, alright? Give it to me, don’t turn back.
(Do the HK slaaaaaaaappp)
I just want to say this is the first video of yours that RUclips has actually put on my feed in YEARS.
I have a PTR32 , slap it and send it forward. It's the way the Germans taught me when I qualified with the G3 . It was to ensure proper engagement of the bolt. It's not a platform to baby .
Always HK slap. The first rule of gun safety is have fun
If you ain't slappin', then you be slackin'. This video has only inspired me to slap that MP5 HARDER!
Gotta keep our pimp hands strong
Eric - "1988 called and they want their forend back. " Nice!! :)
The best part about the HK slap is how it works on guns that aren't HK products. Works well with the Steyr AUG, Keltec RDB, even the MP40 at times which came before HK. Wouldn't recommend doing it often on the GSG clone though.
nobody even talks about how the original hk slap was the cetme
Sub2000 by keltec lives and breaths for the hk slap
And the sub2k
@@MrRolloBaggins I’ve honestly never “HK slapped” my sub-2000, but after what it does to my cheekbone after a few mags, I’m thinking it more than deserves a slap or two. Those oddly low yet tall irons just don’t mesh well with my facial structure, even with the mcarbo sleeve. I’d put a dot on it, but the dirty girl doesn’t deserve it. I have a rule against selling personal guns, but if I ever were to, it’d be on my short list. It’s funny, because most people seem to really like them. 🤷♂️
It is fun to bump fire though, so it does have that going for it, at least when ammo was cheap and plentiful.
@@jackjohnson291 I was torn between the sub2000 and the scorpion evo3 carbine and got it even though its twice as much...but also twice the gun.
We want more MP5 videos. Much love
I give it two more years until Eric and Chad look identical
I have a PTR 91. I have done the HK slap, but I prefer to just rotate it down and let it go home !!
Eric looking good, I’m hopeful that’s it’s because your being better, not because you’ve been ill, regardless keep at it
To be clear, the bolt does lock open on the MP5/10 and MP5/40. 6:35
I have a UMP issued to me at work and I have my personal one as well when I first got my personal one I slapped the release like I was trained for the federal law enforcement academy and it broke went flying down the range. My issued one has never broke doing it thankfully.
I'm with Chad on this one. If there's a way to load it without causing unnecessary damage, that's how I'm gonna load it.
Interesting, I slap all my semi auto pistols with the slide release. Haven't worn one out yet.
It's perfectly fine to do it. I can't stand the Karens who freak out over it.
I’m slapping mine!
I have seen glocks chamber while slapping the mag in because they used their slide release like that so often
@iraqveteran8888 Eric, I agree, I have seen it happen under duress, as you say: with the MP-5, a magazine was inserted on a closed bolt, the weapon was then charged and chambered the first round. And that is where you'd the magazine to fall out oftentimes, but no, the weapon was brought up, fired the 1st and 2nd round and then it fell on the ground and was immediately lost in a pile of rubble and concrete.
Didn't y'all do a video about safe queens? Lol "It's a tool, use it like a tool."
My buddy bought a ptr 31 a while back and it shoots very smooth, it's a fantastic gun. The only knocks I have on it are that there were issues locking in traditional steel mags, pmags work flawlessly. The second negative detail is that it doesn't like hollow points, but it's a sample size of one. I would still buy one though, they are 👌.
There's no such thing as a PTR-31 - the 7.62x39 rigs are "..32"
Happy new year to y’all 🎉🎉!
Oh man, now I gotta see this 7.62x39 PTR!
No PrintShootRepeat "HK Slap" video link? I am disappoint. :(
The euro import sp5k is the neutered version. That one doesn’t have a tri lug adapter, or paddle mag release. The proper sp5/k has all of that and is pretty much as close as it gets buying from HK. Love my sp5k
That “ why can’t you just slap it man” kinna gave me some intervention vibe lol
just realized I wasn't subscribed any more! thanks u-tube! been watching for years thanks and keep it up lol!
Watched the whole video and no print shoot repeat HK slap? It's ok still a fun gun gripes!
It’s one thing to slap your own ______ , but it’s an entirely different thing for someone else to do it in front of you to yours.
A wise man once wrote: "There are two kinds of Christmas movies. One is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the other is Die Hard. Home alone falls under the latter."
I bought a gsg-5sd in 22 so I could smack the crap outta that bolt and not worry about damaging a more expensive piece.
You can push the charging handle inward at the front or rear position with an MP40 to lock it in place that acts as a ‘safety’ as well as the notch
You can probably mod that old flashlight for an led bulb. You can do it to old maglights
The slap sounds better in the movies than on gun grips anyways.
If you haven't slapped a G3/PTR 91, you haven't lived.
Sounds and feels even better than the movies
You could eliminate most wear concerns by putting some actual grease on the wear surface. Any normal user will never have any noticable wear this way. Sounds like an issue that only affects dry guns. Same thing with car door hinges. You never lubricate them they wear out, you lubricate them they last forever.....
Nice chat between Chad and Eric, nice one again 👍👏
You two are hilarious 😂 JUST FREAKING SLAP IT! It’s therapeutic! 🤣👍🏻🇺🇸💯
coffee cup blocking the tip of the firearm for the entirety of the video takes some excellent planning and skills. grats.
In my time on the mp5/g3 the manual of arms was different. You loaded and "slapped" whit your right hand, left hand stayed on the forend. And usually right hand slap will have a slight rearward mowement , because of your bodyposition. It gives less stress on the guns "groowe". Left hand you slap down and naturally with a forward mowement. An unintended positve from that manual of arms. Sorry, bad english.
Your english is pretty good 👍
My stepson has a HK mp5 he says, if I don’t slap it you don’t get to operate it 😢😂
I say slap your MP5, slap it every time! If in 500,000rds the cocking tube notch wears down ship it to TPM Outfitters and have them replace the tube.
As a southerner I enjoy fun fuddry when I see it. However the Krauts that made it says slap her. If the owner asks me not to I won't but mine be slapped. My aug slapped.
love the GUN GRIPS .... the Best
Theirs a song about 3d printing HKs and slapping them! It’s called “the HK slap” by print shoot repeat
The MP5 notch is heat treated(aka hardened) the notch in the receiver is harder than the pin the cocking handle is attached to, which is the part that interfaces with the notch. So it is fine either way, to slap or not to slap is up to the user.
Lethal Weapon is a Christmas movie too.
LOL you two 😂 gentlemen, ya’ll just make me smile
This operation I’m operating in is very operational with the HK. Operating operators will operate 😂
“You don’t wanna leave your handprint”
Chad: Always.
"Go ahead and give it a nice slap for us"
"Oh!....That made me hurt inside!"
"ohhh YEAHHHHHHHHHH"
🤣I'm a grown man, stop
After using a G3/AK4 in military service, you'r supposed to slap it.
PLEASE DO AN MP5 VARIANT VIDEO
Isn't the lower the machine gun?
Can't you just swap out the upper if the slapping is galling up the charging handle.
Not on an MP5. The upper receiver is the firearm. Lowers are just replaceable parts. You can have registered trigger packs that go in the lower, but the lower is never the firearm. In fact, it's rare that the lower is the firearm in most cases. The AR-15 is an outlier.
@@ryknoll3 Thank you for the Knowledge Kind sir, I didn't know that.
@@ryknoll3 It's a bit more complicated than that for HKs. Yes, the upper is the firearm BUT depending on how the gun is registered, the trigger pack (as you say) may be the registered part and may be able to be put into another upper without an ATF transfer (except an ordinary firearm transfer for the upper).
I noticed while visiting some of the “Armories” for PD’s, special ops etc = lots of “out of spec” MP5’s needing service.
Haven’t watched it through yet but the slap reminds me of palm smashing the bolt release on an ar. One way of doing it I reckon.
Well, if some sh1t goes down in Georgia we know all them good ol boys are teaming up with Eric and Chad.
The only damage caused by slapping it is increased wear at the hook that holds the bolt locked open. And for a collector item, that is reason enough not to slap it.
Bruce Willis himself said Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. Great debate though
Die hard is such a weak option and always has been why doesn’t anyone mention first blood as the best Christmas movie?
@@99billionninjas62534 for real man!
I have a SP5/MP5 H&K
LOVE IT
I feel the same way about the "no slap". I have a ptr91 that I baby like a real g3!
Yeah cause it what a $20k dollar plus gun..
PTR 91s are made in the Portuguese tooling which was real H&K licensed G3 production.
I agree with this video. Everytime someone picks up an MP5 all the dude standing around him goes "Slap It! Slap it!". For that reason alone I don't slap. Everyone wants to feel like they're in a God Dammed movie.
I love you guys!
Used to belong to a private range that was mostly 07's and title II owners. It would be easier to number the times the HK cocking tubes/op rods DIDN'T break from slapping.
i used to work at PTR. i made the receivers in 2021. my name is Travis Polhemus. chad and Eric are right that they're expensive guns and its ridiculous that they charge so much for shit made guns. "they're not cheap" but they're definitely cheaply made. I've seen so much unreasonable quality control issues. Mike Lee the warehouse manager even got fired after i left because he tried to hide so much bad shit that was happening so the parent company wouldn't be pissed off at him instead of just fixing whatever was wrong. guys, seriously spend your money somewhere else. the only reason they cost what they do is because they basically have a monopoly along with a few other companies on the HK market because the real HK company doesn't hand out licenses to just anyone.
Chad that was hilarious impersonating Eric, I did lolol'd. GOD bless everyone and America, amen.
An MP5 would be very cool to be able to get over in USA. But what I really want is an MP7.
“BE A MAN AND SLAP IT CHAD”. Definitely will be turning that one into meme. Please make a shirt lol
that may not be a bad idea to incorporate into the design a slapable no damage taking surface maybe a coat of ceramic so the slap just makes it slide rather than gouge from friction Of course it would have to be a heavy duty ceramic that wouldn't chip or break or wear easy
Good video brothers
True. I don't kick the door of my old truck anymore. ;)
Lmao, I just picked up my IWI Tavor 7 and told the guy that you can HK slap it. He just smiled lol
It's like asking someone if you can key their car
😂 I saw that John Lovell video. He called it shuffling the deck. Or something like that. 😂
I can't believe that is in the user manual lol!
You got to treat it like you are Rick James and it is Charlie Murphy’s face.
Chad can do Chad. I'm gonna keep slapping mine like it owes me money 🤣
Same mindset here Eric. As someone who completely takes care of everything I own, especially mechanical, I hate that damn slap technique. Maybe its ok in a supreme stress / speed scenario, but damn, take care of things!
It's like kicking your car door closed. You don't have to and you shouldn't kick other people's car doors.
Tell me you've never ran a belt-fed, without telling me.
@@TommyTombstone well, most people haven't dragged the quarter mile in under 10 seconds either. ;)
I totally want to nerd out with Eric and Chad on the MP5
Follow the directions in the manual.
H&K manual for mp5 page 10 section 5 under operator use literally verbatim "Vigorously slap the cocking handle out of the indent."
When a problem comes along, you must slap it! *SLAP IT GOOD*
