  • Living in Canada (where it is cold at least 5 months out of the year) I'm still not a big fan of winter, it was all about enduring it until spring comes, but this winter I was tried of "enduring" and I just wanted to embrace and then I started exploring Cold Exposure and I must say.... it's life changing in many ways! it's amazing for mindfulness, it boosts your immune system, fights inflammation, helps with bette sleep, it's good for metabolic health and increases will power.
Our bodies can handle a lot more then we give them credit for.
I guess this is where I share my links:

I live in the nordic countries and this is beautiful to witness, people all over the world trying cold exposure. What it can do for your health is magical!
**Disclaimer* - To all people with high blood pressure and current/previous heart problems, consult with a doctor before you do cold exposure, for your own safety!

Another cool thing (be it winter or summer) is going between extremes; hot sauna and cold swim right after. Northeners know this is the best euphoria, ever.

the trick i've learned with cold exposure showers, is to start with a 'comfortable' temperature, and then slowly drop the temp till you can see your breath... once you get used to that you can start with colder and colder temperatures... it can help with imagining it not so much as a 'shower' but like you are jumping into a waterfall.

My way to appreciate winter : get used to cold weather... And wear a vest and a insulated pant over a regular pant. Eventually two pairs of sockets.
Insulated over pant is really really making a big difference

Since moving to a cold climate, I have learned the benefits of cold exposure.
Shocking your body with cold exposure means your metabolism kicks up a notch and you can stay warmer. Just wrapping up, staying still, and being slightly cold, tends to make your metabolism go into preservation mode. A cold shock, and then putting some clothes on, leaves me feeling warmer and more energetic afterwards.

I used to live in Canada as well (Kamloops and Vancouver), but probably the coldest was Montreal, where my former partner is from. The best experience with cold is taking a sauna in Prague, followed by a cold bath, repeat and then off to the Latvian embassy for giant gin&tonics. I love your channel and your stories.

Your videos are great ! This one is especially useful to a lot of your generation that seem to have great fear of “ uncomfortable situations/ speech/places”. It appears in your video here that you identify and confront this ( winter) and find a way to positively live with it. And we, and you especially, get to reap the benefits. You are still , to this old man, an adorable granddaughter I never had. God’s Blessings be with you, and please keep smiling- it brightens this crazy, sad at times, world.

I have worked in malls since I was 18, long long ago. To get away from things, I would tke my vacation at a small cabin near Kinmount, just find Kinmount, and head 20k into the woods. Talk about peace. Now, if you were to go to the same place, it's all chainsaws, skidoos and whatever else, hundreds of people. Of course I am older now, and not such a big fan of the cold, but it is the perfect place for chopping wood, it's all we had for heat.

But hey if you want too run barefoot in the snow: just remember watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow, and the other is no fun in between your toes.😢👌✌️👋 have a good week and God bless amen.

In my younger days, I enjoyed winter; less so now. Snow, and the need to shovel the damn stuff, bothers me less than times when the temp drops enough I can never keep my hands and feet warm. A hard no on cold showers and ice baths. Also... cats are so judgmental.

  • @Jackalski57

Part of the issue with S.A.D. is the lack of sunlight to help create the body's own Vitamin D. Supplementational D may help a bit, so can modifying your diet to include more sources of Vit. D, especially since D supplements can really agitate some people's stomachs (like mine). In that case there's also a chewable D supplement called "Replesta" which helped in my case.
Full spectrum lighting, especially on a timer, to turn on at the "normal" time it would start to get bright out in the spring or summer can help.
As far as cold tolerance, for some reason, my normal body temp. goes down in the Winter by almost 2 degrees Fahrenheit, from 98.6f to around 96.8f. I don't know why, maybe it's genetic, but I rarely have to dress very heavily in the Winter, unless it's extremely cold and windy. I mean somewhere around 0 degrees f. or below
