    I hear you guys. To clarify, the two main issues with our old wifi setup was speed and coverage. In hindsight, the 4k demo shouldn't have been a focus since it mostly tested bandwidth. It was also a super unrealistic scenario, even though I was genuinely curious to see what the bandwidth limitations of my old router were. In reality, this setup works for *my* specific needs, which are pretty extreme compared to the average user. Sorry if I made it seem like everyone and their mom should go out and spend $600 on routers. I promise to do better in my follow-up video!

      Greetings from Sweden. Nothing to apologize for. You showed us in a clear and informative way how to setup and increase the high speed Internet WiFi coverage. Expensive or not, necessary or not, it doesn't matter. The video was about *coverage and speed.* Keep up the great work, Bitwit!

      @@scrptdice6177 It's only his LAN IP, so that's not something to worry about. More damaging are all the MAC addresses that he shows and the pincode for WPS. You can't change the MAC addresses, but that pincode has to be changed, otherwise anybody can walk into the house, press the WPS button on the router and hook up their WIFI device to his network using that code.

      Agreed. As far as I'm concerned Wi-Fi is a complimentary technology to wired LAN. Everything in my house that requires network access that is fixed position (eg TV, gaming consoles, PC's) is on wired gigabit LAN. The only devices that use Wi-Fi exclusively are tablets & phones. Laptops switch between both.

  • @gdn86
    @gdn86 3 года назад

    I think his point is the speed increase is a by-product of the new tech. Try using his original setup in a WFH situation with multiple video calls for 2 working parents and 2+ kids. It would be incredibly frustrating at that point. AX is brilliant at handling that kind of traffic, and a mesh system, even using the less efficient wireless node mode, is a huge improvement. If he clarified that you don't need to spend that much on the routers to achieve similar results, I doubt the comments would be the same. The AX-55s are about $120 each right now, and results would be similar in a smaller home. He could probably have bought 3 of those and covered more ground. The AX88U is overkill unless you're also in need of the 8 LAN ports they offer. Ultimately, the ISP speed is going to be the big bottleneck no matter what. If he never changed his internet package before setting this up, that Blue Cave was throttling speeds to an absurd number. Going from 60-250MBps requires more than the router IMO.

    @5:40 slow down on the connections
    So after you updated the firmware somehow, you connect the first ASUS router to your PC = is that just an Ethernet cable from a NIC port on the router to the NIC port on your computer? If that's the black wire, then what's the white cable plugged into the back of the ASUS router? Where does it go to ?
    And then you set up the primary mesh router
    @6:43 you're going to set up the 2nd ASUS as the node =
    1. pull our "broadband connection" ??? where did THAT cable come from ?
    2. the black Ethernet cable is that the one that went between your PC and the 1st ASUS router and you unplugged it from the 1st and plugged it into the 2nd?
    I am curious where your INTERNET router is at this point - the one provided by your ISP (or do they provide one to you in the US) Was that the router with the blue light you showed us? Is it doing anything during all this? Is it in the loop or required in any way because that's where the internet comes from right?

    I picked up 3 sets of powerline adapters on Prime Day to replace my set of 6+ year old adapters, now I can stream my pc games to Steam links with good quality and sell off some of my htpc’s. Will eventually go mesh when my modem/router gets long in the tooth and my kids are older and will want better WiFi in their rooms.

    Any updates on how they have been working? Curious to see if anyone else has had issues like me. Thanks!

    Kyle, just checking how the WiFi setup is working out? I will be building my house in about a year and more than likely gonna need to set something up for WiFi. Ill have hard wire throughout the house, but will still need to have something for the rest. Thanks buddy!
