cold weather causes the air inside the pad to contract, thus deflating. i avoid air pads in cold weather. great video!

I have the NEMO Flyer sleeping pad. It’s half air and half foam so if it deflates, you still have the foam you’re laying on. Great pad. Good luck!
That sounds like a good option. What size does a pack down to? Space is limited on my bike so I need to keep it as small as I can.

I’ve been using a Sea to Summit Comfort Plus sleeping mat. It has two separate inflatable chambers. I also bought a small rechargeable pump to make it inflate a little quicker.

You need to pump it full, then submerge it underwater. (Bathtub, sink , pond, stream) You'll see the tiny stream of bubbles coming from the tiny hole.
I know what you're saying, but that's not my responsibility. It's a responsibility of the manufacturer. This happened a long time ago and I ultimately sent it back to Nemo and they figured out that I was correct and it was the valve. They sent me a new replacement. You are completely correct though, that's how you figure out where the leak comes from. But for what I paid for this Nemo you should be the one figuring it out and they did. Thanks for watching!
Great setup! I have been using the big agnes q core deluxe, 30x78. I am 6’1 and just under 300lbs. So far(8 nights total) no leaks and the most comfortable I’ve used yet!!

@@DannyRiskit True, I've been thinking about a tent for that reason. That extra weight and space on the bike though is very precious. I just watched an episode of Yellowstone the other day where this guy was sleeping on the ground and got bit by a centipede and this old Texas cowboy said to him, "you know most people in Texas don't sleep on the ground." Made me laugh and also reconsider my choices.

Nice setup for bike camping. We have had snow on the ground for a couple of weeks so riding a bike isn't the best way to get around here in northern Minnesota right now. I really like my MSS and have used it here during spring thaw and stayed plenty warm. I like the tarp too but, if you ever decide to upgrade, you could check out the Aquaquest (Defender Series) tarps. I am sure that you have heard of them, but I do not recall ever seeing you use or review one here on the channel. There are a couple of other series that they make which are lighter but not as heavy duty. They are fairly heavy and expensive but basically bomb proof. They have a hydrostatic resistance of 20,000 mm, and are made from 70D nylon, have a heavy TPU coating, reinforced stitching & heat taped seams with With a total of 19 - 37 (depending on tarp size) reinforced webbing loops (including loops for overhead hanging) and pole inserts in all four corners. They sell them on amazon as well so you could add them to your IZN Amazon store. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing.

Niiiiiiice, great video!! I love the nemo tensor , super weird yours won't stay inflated. Have you tried to track down a leak? Could be a valve leak. Ive been using inflatable pads for years, it took me 3 of those years to learn how to store my pad when it wasn't in use and now I'm finding them to last a lot longer. It's definitely not uncommon for a piece of gear to be faulty out of the box, nemo might replace it for you for real. They're a great company and have some pretty decent customer service
Thank you! I think it might be a valve leak as well. I looked into Nemo's warranty and return policy and it said if there's any stains whatsoever or any other problems with the pad that they won't even look at it. The first time I used it it rained and I did get some dirt on it which stained it a bit. I'm afraid I'm going to send the thing back at my expense just to have them return it to me also at my expense if I remember correctly and just waste my time.
@@IrishZombieNation ouch thats definitely not great customer service! It might not hurt to email them about the issue and just ask "is there a way I can fix this or is there a valve replacement" but of course I'd recommend dunking the pad under water to verify the spot thats leaking. That definitely isn't a cheap pad by any means and id personally love to see you get the full comfort out of it because when operating properly - the nemo tensor is (generally) one of the most comfortable pads due to its baffles and thickness
2:30 - Is it actually deflating? Or could the air be contracting with the drop in temperature? I have a similar one I used to use in my hammock, I had to over inflate it with my warm breath, and it shrinks when it gets cold, I assumed it was temperature drop and small volume of air. I eventually got under quilts. The air mattress thing is a constant PITA.
eg. I have an inflatable kayak, if I inflate it then leave it in the sun, it will swell up to the point I have to let out some air.

I've used the pad in warm and cold temperatures, same result. The way this one is inflated is with a Vortex airbag it attaches to the valve and you push air into it through that so the condensation from your breath doesn't get inside the pad itself. This is supposed to be used in extreme cold temperatures, and when it's inflated it works great. It just won't stay inflated through the night. I'm not sure if they are can be contracting with the drop in temperature, if that's the case those in this pad is worthless for what they designed it for. I agree, air mattresses are a pain in the ass. I just can't sleep on the ground very comfortably without one and I'm planning on riding through the desert and camping with Junkyard Fox next year where a hammock is not going to be much of an option. I want to bring a hammock anyway just in case, but space is very scarce on my bike. As always, appreciate you watching David. Sláinte!

Yeah, I've looked this thing over thoroughly for pin holes or anything and I haven't found anything. Only thing I can think of is the valve is defective. I looked into returning it through Nemo's warranty but it specifies that if there's any stains or anything on the mattress that they won't even mess with it and send it back at your expense. First time I ever used it was in the rain and it did get some minor stains on it from the dirt, so I'm SOL.
@@LeoHardestyIZN that's to bad Nemo should be a good mattress but maybe it is the valve, had that happen on one of mine too, not a Nemo though

Hi buddy, I was researching for trip I'm making next month , and rather than get a silly little tent I'm gonna try roughing it using tarps.
I am however not spoiling myself with my mattress.
You asked for suggestions.
These can at first feel a bit heavy maybe half a Kilo, but they fold up pretty well, taking up about 30cmX30cmX5cm
The three distinct advantages I believe are:
The thickness, once inflated it's at least 20 inches thick. Comfortable on your bones and joints.
Flocked top and waterproof bottom. The flocked top stops you sliding off it. But it's nice and wide anyway ,which I feel may be a disadvantage to you. Or you may see it's worthy and get yourself a larger tarp. The waterproof bottom is a given , no need for a ground sheet.
Thirdly , the valve , is nice and big , with a one way rubber seal that you can hold over your exhaust output to inflate. (How many times this can be done before it causes damage ...I don't know. But at around 10£/$ I see it still as value for money. Naturally the cooler the exhaust gas the better.

There's no hot air in the mattress. It's inflated using the included vortex inflation sack. I returned this to Nemo through their warranty and they found that it was the valve leaking and replaced it.
You have a rolled blanket on the front forks, why didn’t you use that?
It wasn't part of what I was trying to test out on this trip.

It actually takes up significantly less space and weight than a tent does.
