This really is, honestly, Nelly Furtado's crown jewel song, even over her classic debut from over a score ago (2000), and the album that catapulted her into an undistributed.
Unfortunately, the timing of this song came in a crowded summer of 2012 (Drake/Chris Brown beef), and should have been released right at the beginning of 2012.
It is a perfect song, and music video.
This should been the lead single! In my mind the era went like this :
1. Spirit Indestructible (released April 2012)
2. Parking Lot (released July 2012)
3. Waiting For The Night (November 2012)

answer to your question: She decided to go and try different things. She stated in an interview in like 2012 when she released The spirit Indestructible that she wanted to travel the world and find out different options, after being questioned about her extremely low record sales, she didn't care, didn't phase her, she's just trying different genres.. If she really wanted to she could've stayed with timbaland and made huge hit after huge it, unfortunately for us, she went off the foreign countries, she also got married and settled down, and now for the past couple years she has been taking a break. And with real talent like Nelly gone, now we sadly have Katy Perry/Miley Cyrus/Justin Bieber/ 2 chainz, etc and is why i will never touch a radio dial until Nelly (if she does) comes back to save American radio. lol.
She traveled before or after her latest album? I ask because getting distracted from her music is what made her second album bomb in comparison to her debut album Whoa, Nelly. In between those albums she had her daughter and that distracted her from her work, or more so the experiences of that situation didn't help when creating her album, considering the bad reception and low sales. If she her mind set on other things besides music when creating this album like what happened after Whoa, Nelly then that explains what happened. Also settling down and raising a family is what makes artists retire, that's how Gwen Stefani disappeared from the music industry, got married and had kids. Far too busy to be giving it their all when it comes to making music when they have a family.
MyidolGwen That's very true. i mean shes 35 years old, thats decently old for a hip-hop style artist, most are just 20s and low 30s. shes not by any means old, but shes a little bit up. she traveled to make the albums i what i ment, all she said was "wanted to help the children in other countries, perform, and try their music style/language" along those lines. she traveled through europe/south africa and whatever other places to get inspiration on different music styles. she got married a decent long time ago and it was after Loose but before Mi Plan which was 2006-2010.
