That's a nice emergency set up Blackie! I think a lot of people often forget the term EMERGENCY mean you leave all the creature comforts at home and go for the bare minimum to get you through the night. This kit will do exactly that! As you said this isn't for an extended stay or even a planned overnight in most cases. But it will most definitely ease the pain and discomfort of spending a night n the woods without a shelter or bed if the need arises. Thanks for the vid!

Try a 1/8th inch pad. You can cut 3 foot section off and use it as a pad for your hammock just for your butt and back for when it gets down to 60 degrees. Also it’s a sitting and kneeling pad and fire fan and whatever else. It only weighs one ounce and it should fit in your haversack with I’d guess four folds which is just one half an inch so it won’t take up much space at all. Thanks Blackie.

I carry a similar setup.....Wilderness Innovation poncho & Arrowhead Equipment Bushman hammock chair. Can’t say I would want to spend the night with that setup as it would really be fire dependent. Still cold with some snow here so more like 8 months winter & 4 months Mosquitoes 🦟.

Great emergency shelter for your environment Blackie, well thought out. I might need something a bit different. Thanks, you've got me thinking now on my own needs. I think I'd need a tarp or poncho and some heavy duty trash bags to stuff leaves in for a bed to get me off the ground.

Although my system weighs more so do I if I got in your hammock I would be on the ground anyway so I carry two tarps and a couple of 55 gal trash bags to stuff and keep me off the ground and keep me dry. Besides my belt knife I have a stainless Mora knife I use for cooking only. I live in Michigan and sometimes it can get cold that's why the second tarp, I double it over and wrap it around me to keep my body heat close. The total weight of my bag is a little less than 6 pounds and attaches to my backpack for hiking and removed for exploring after the camp is set up.

@@BLACKIETHOMAS We lived in a trailer park called Briarwood Estates opposite Karen's Field, outside Daleville. It was usually a quiet place, except for the flyovers, you know. I don't remember a Hanchey Field, but after 20+ years, there are a lot of things I don't remember. But, I have to admit, doesn't that sound like pistol fire? Happy

Those fish net hammocks were all we had in the 70s. By the 90s no camping stores had them. Late 90s I found 2 small ones at thrift stores. By 2000 a new full size one at Walmart. My small ones are great to carry as you demonstrated. They love to pull buttons off pants pockets. Lol. How long have you had that one?

Tom Robison I have a OD green poncho I bought at Walmart over 20 years ago and it’s still usable today. I’m 6’-4” and it will serve me just fine as emergency shelter. Not sure of the intent of your question but if you’re being sarcastic this isn’t the place for it. If you had a legitimate question then I have given you a reasonable answer. I cannot speak for Blackie nor will I try but if his poncho was purchased at Walmart then I hope he gets as much use from his as I have mine.
