The reason Korra never learned/knew how to airbend when she was younger, had to do completely with her personality. She’s very impulsive, physical and strong loves to fight, but not spiritual or cerebral. Aang was very spiritually connected and a pacifist. A Polar Bear Dog was actually early concept for Appa, but ended up being scrapped. In early development, the original show was a futuristic sci-fi show with concept art picture showing Aang, a Polar Bear Dog, and Momo who was going to be a cyborg robot monkey who had survived the destruction of a lost civilization a thousand years before named Momo-3. Seperate from that, the creators said that they were originally going to reveal that Momo was a reincarnation of Monk Gyatso

This episode aired on April 14, 2012 on Nickelodeon. The Search Part 1 was released on March 20, 2013. So you can imagine the fans watching this as it was airing were feeling when Ikki had interrupted Katara. I didn’t, because I watched after the series finale was released.
Also in one of the comics, you can see that an adult Katara doesn't wear her mother's necklace anymore. Instead, the one that she wears is carved terribly - this means that Aang likely carved one for her and gave it to her when he proposed 😍😍 that's the necklace that she is likely wearing in LOK

When I first watched it I didn't like it. It was just so different and I was younger and just wanted Avatar the continuing adventures. But then I decided to watch it a few years later and it hooked me. I think season 1 is the weakest, but Season 2 sucked me in and I just loved it from then on.
She’s mastered all the elements but air. That’s was her fire bending master test we say, she even told Naga she’s passed. Fire is the element before air in the cycle
Some people erroneously think the jump in tech is unrealistic, when it's very much not. The Fire Nation was clearly shown to be in their Industrial Age. It is a clear parallel to our real world's jump in tech from the mid 1800s to the 1920s. (We went from the first successful airplane flight to the moon in only 66 years. This been about 70 years since then end of the 100 year war in AtLA.) The Fire Nation had a stranglehold on tech but after the war, it became available and shared with all the nations.
You guys should just keep in mind that this season, and the second season, were each stand alone seasons. They will wrap up the entire plot for the seasons by the last episode because Nickelodeon basically told the creators they would only get one season, then extended it to one more season well after the first was done, then finally told them they can have two more seasons.
If you wonder how Oogie exists, well in a comic con Mike and Bryan confirmed Aang found a herd of bison descendents of the ones who survived the genocide in one of his travels around the world.
I'll never get over how the same man played the brash and loud J Jonah Jameson in Raimi's Spider-Man, quiet and spiritual Tenzin in LOK AND the genocidal Omni-Man in Invincible 😱😱
Jk simmons is an insanely talented actor. Pretty much every character he plays has a completely different feel to them. His character in whiplash is insanely good
I literally finished watching Avatar for the first time when you started reacting to it, and I just finished Korra for the first time recently now too XDD
You also have to remember that Korra isn't very spiritual because she's been learning the elements trapped and purely technically. Every Avatar before her has had to travel the world to learn the bending arts, along with meeting the people and their customs/culture.
"Going into it I'm not gonna get my hopes up." "Oh, my hopes are up!" I would say that it's good, but not as good as Avatar. Don't expect that high a bar, but still expect something good.
I've always felt like the opinion "go without expectations" is kinda wrong. Like I might be wrong but almost every person I know likes TLoK and the vast majority of reaction channels also loves that. The only people that hate that show are the one that are negative into that show from the very beginning. They are hating that show mostly for some stupid reasons and they are finding every minor detail to "confirm" their opinion of that show. Its definitely awesome show and can't wait to watch you more
You misunderstand, the very reason they want to go without expectations is that so aren't negative from the beginning when their expectations aren't exactly met. The people who hate the show are the ones who carry unrealistic and biased expectations with them on their first watch of Korra. I think Korra is a very good show, but the things is, because it's a direct sequel, it will always be directly compared to the original show, which is even better than a very good show. As a result the expectations people have from Avatar make Korra's flaws as a show stand out much more than if you compared Korra to a lesser show. And I think critics do raise good reasons as to why Korra is the lesser of the shows.

it usually depends on the majority of the fanbase that watches them too, I find you can tell who will and won't like it by the other content they post on their channel and how they act as people. Certain people only watch shows for face level and don't like to delve into talking about the show. I could tell first episode of ATLA I watched of these guys that they will whole heartedly give this a chance.
Oh, boy, here we go! Really excited to watch this along with you guys, and while this series can have it's ups and downs I really enjoyed it overall. And you are right, the voice actor for Tenzin is the same as Omniman, the one and only J.K.Simmons, aka the best J. Jonah Jameson ever lol Also, something you can't deny is that the soundtrack in this show absolutely slaps!
stoked you’re starting korra! it’s great, i loved every season! the only issue was that nickelodeon kept effing around with their renewal so they really weren’t able to write a multi season arc like the last airbender. i still love the show and how it grows their characters
while this series is polarizing I do think it's mainly because it's in the shadow of ATLA. If this existed on it's own I think people would appreciate it a lot more, it's certainly not perfect and has places it could be better but it's not nearly as bad as some people say it is.
i remember when korra was originally being planned and waited so long for it to release. it was originally going to be about aang and katara’s daughter, but they didn’t go along with it and changed it to what we know it as now. her name never changed though which i find nice 🥺

One thing I love about korra is that she is very much am opposite of aang. The writers wanted to make her unique and not just the same avatar as aang. Anng was very intuned with his spiritual side but not the physical, korra the opposite. Aang says he never wanted to be the avatar. Korra first words in the show: I'm the avatar and you need to deal with it. Love the reactions enjoy the ride.

I hope you'll enjoy it too! I know there are a few things that are less good than ATLA. Nick really gave this show a lot of trouble which made some episodes and quality in s2 less good, but there are also a lot of mature themes in this show

All I want to say is that you should concentrate on each series on their own and focus on the main stories series by series and not as a whole. It's much better in my oppinion.
ok so here's something i think you need to know to enjoy this show. The four seasons of this show will not be connected in a way that ATLA was, leading up to the big finale in the last season. In this show, each season will lead up to its own finale and different antagonists. This is due to the fact that originally there was only one season written, but because of the great demand, they decided to keep on going. WIth that said, season 1 is really nice. season two is not the greatest in my opinion but has some really nice episodes and season 3 will probably be your favorite and I cant wait so see you guys react to it

Dont expect the same cut and paste format that Aang went through plz 😅 from your convo at the end it sounds like you are setting expectations to watch the same show again. If yiu set expectations like that you will be let down lol or maybe you wont. We will see. Hope you guys enjoy the show overall :3
i’ll never understand why people disliked korra. yes it’s a sequel and connected to the original series but it’s still a separate story with separate characters. it’s not supposed to be like atla because it’s not. i’ve always loved both equally for different reasons. they’re both special in their own ways. you also have to take into account that nickelodeon wasn’t very dedicated to this series to begin with which didn’t help :/

I prefer LoK to Avatar. Both are great but LoK's themes throughout the seasons were much more interesting and engaging to me personally.

could you guys not skip intro/credits? Korra got some beautiful soundtrack. It's one of the experience.
