If you read further into the song, the most important line is the first. "Your mama told me read the Bool of Job; they should've called it the Book of Soul." The story of Job is the story of Man's faith being tested by God. God took away Job's family, wealth, health, and life as a whole to see if he would remain faithful. Ab-soul developed Steven-Johnson Syndrome, lost his high school lover, and makes reference to what's next: "My mama and music is next." Also, he acknowledges the symbolism and parallels between his life and the story. "Me and God ain't never spoke, unless we talking symbolically then I might agree; but, if we wanna look at it that way, then, ay man (Amen), God dont like me."
This is beyond a shadow of a doubt my favorite Ab-Soul song ever.
Damn I didn't even catch that Amen pun, that's deep.
Bro/sis that woke 🌼
Damn 🔥🔥
His girl was Alori Joh who was also signed to TDE at the time, but she jumped off a radio tower to her death at 25. That's why he said he would jump off a tower to find her. Great reaction as always guys.
The way his voice cracks or whatever when he says he’d jump off the tower to find her always gets me
Oh wow
Thanks for helping understand better
She was never signed to TDE. Like Jhene she was an affiliate but not a signee
must've been so sad recording this in the studio.😪
This is a deep album cut speaking on his girlfriend who commited suicide, this was more for him than us.
I think the production is disjointed on purpose to match the emotion in his words.
Funny to see vza here love the channel
@@chubbysurprise4429 Haha... I love Hip-Hop even more than I love comics. Thanks for the love, man.

If you’re a big TDE fan you’ll know her death was a huge blow for them. Don’t think ab recovered from this. She killed herself right before they all blew up. This song is meant to be listened in the flow of the album. Makes a difference.
Facts
This ain't even half of what soulo capable of listen to pineal gland
True but it's a good intro to let you know who he is and where he came from.
I swear dude. He is underrated asf.
Pineal gland, threatening nature, invocation
@@Ftf_shotz p&p, terrorist threats, bohemian grove
Yo, real talk. I need y'all to get back on King los asap. Particularly, a song called Sing about me king los remix. That shit is fire; absolutely well written song. And a song called called 'January 24th'. React to that shit soon, yo. 💯
RIP Alori Joh, she was one of TDE's first female singers and has collabed with Kendrick numerous times on his Section 80 album (Hiiipower is still amazing to this day). Her death is pretty tragic considering she jumped off a radio tower to her death
Holy f, did she jump or get thrown off?
@@hpensive She jumped
Was she the girl he was talking about?
@@griffin1182 yes
I was sitting here thinking that they must not know how tragic the story he is telling really is
ab soul - terrorist threats feat danny brown
Danny browns discography in general
banger with amazing lyrics...
Straight banger
Now that's possibly his best song. I love AB but this isn't close to being his best song imo
The entire song is a recounting of the story of things that happened to Job in the Book of Job in the Bible and relating it to the events of his life or the character in the Modern world.
- boils
- Sister didn’t recognize him because of damage
- wife turns on him
- children die
- crying “Why God Why?”
- all the things he loved taken away
Yeah interesting 🤔🔥
Over they heads🛸
Ab soul is SOO underrated
I'm a huge Ab Soul fan but he has bad production behind him. Control System is a classic but These Days and Do what thou wilt were disappointing.
Drew Piff this had best beat choices
@@SuisLBC Facts
Drew Piff did you like his beat selection on do what thou whilt?
Drew Piff ?? Do what thou wilt had beautiful production.
This is a beautiful track but far from the best track by AB. Terrorist threats, Real Thinkers, Pineal Gland just to name a few. This track you guys listened to is just him sharing his soul. It wasn't about bars.
Raw(spelt backwards), Huey knew THEN, Threatening Nature.
I apologize if your Intro to Soulo was The Book of Soul, but if you guys get a chance check out one of these other tracks. Terrorist Threats being my favorite because it features another dope artist Danny Brown. Thanks for all the hard work again guys and love the objectivity.
Orlando Weise my opinion his best track. But Pineal Gland slaps
not his best track but the most emotional for sure
I feel like the artist wanted to convey his own feelings of confusion and disjointedness in the music. He did it masterfully.
Finally an Ab Soul reaction hell yea! Great choice too. If you do another one do portishead in the morning
Produced by PaKKMusicGroup :)

Happy you guys got to Ab-Soul... I'll just list some random recommendations.
Saba - Life
J. Cole - Killers
Ab-Soul - Ride Slow, Stigmata, Sopa, Huey Know, Innvocation, anything really just want more Ab-Soul lol
They definitely need to react to Life

Alan Mitchell Kenny still better imo
React to the new Mick Jenkins album Pieces of a Man
not one mediocre song on that shit
Pieces of a kid
unbelievably good
One of the beautiful things about art, and the primary reason I try not to shit on other peoples' tastes, is that it's so, so subjective. We all get to have our own individual reactions and interpretations. So while I think the music and lyrics work really well together and Ryan feels otherwise, that doesn't mean either of us is wrong. There's room for both of our opinions and they are both worthy of respect.
BOUT GOT DAMN TIME!! LOL YALL DONT KNOW HOW HAPPY THIS MAKES ME!! MUCH LOOOOOVE!!
Im pretty sure I cried the first time I heard this...
12:35 George: "Shout out to Ab Soul man..."
Ryan: *"Ab-Soul-utely"*
*ba dum tss*
Y'all need some Freddie Gibbs in your life ! He's one of the best rappers of the decade and Pinata is a 10/10 albums
Freddie Gordy is probably his song with the most quotables, Thuggin might be his best overall song though
dadorage piñata is flawless, so is shadow of a doubt

I can’t believe I’m just catching the “And fall off a fucking tower just to find you “ line.
I just remembered that she died by falling off a tower. I only thought about it now after seeing his recent talk about wanting to commit suicide and the “do better” video.
Damn!
You have to do diablo -Mac Miller I promise it won’t disappoint!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Raymon D such a dope song. "Faces" is his best work in my opinion. His lyricism shines so much throughout the project.
That and just raps nothing to see here
This and new faces with Dash and earl
Raymon D The End is Near with Ab and Mac. Oh my oh my
Damn I’ve been waiting for this one . Ab-soul is so dope . Don’t forget the dash though .
One of my favorite Solo tracks ever along with Pineal Gland... This one grows on you after a few listens so dont judge it to tough & shut it out play back a few times & i guarantee itll grow on you & youll find your way back to it over & over!
This is not only 1 of Soul's best track if not best, but imo 1 of the deepest hip hop tributes to come out in the past decade for sure, truely beautiful.. this is a DOOM beat that got flipped.. Alori Joh(Soul's gf at the time) jumped off a roof, some ppl believe she got killed.. that line "or fall off a fuckin tower tryna find u" is so deep, u could hear the pain in his voice.. great review tho guys!!
Didn't expect the slightly negative reaction of this song. It's interesting to me because it's think it's such a flawless song.
Rhapsody ft JCole - Sojourner
I definitely get what you mean when you say the lyrics by themselves are great and so is the instrumental by itself, just that the two of them together don't really match, and I respect the openness despite that opinion, but I disagree. Personally I love the song even though I just heard it for the first time yesterday. I understand how a lot of people wouldn't really love it though. It doesn't really have anything that makes it "bumpin'" which I completely get. There are other hip hop songs that have a jazzy beat and poetic lyrics that really blend together and bump and get into your soul with the rhythm of it all together. Untitled 05 and You Ain't Gotta Lie by Kendrick are perfect examples of that. I think in most moods I'd prefer those two songs, and I get why most people would in general, but I still love this song. I had heard Ab-Soul before, but not much at all. This makes me wanna get into him more and see what he's about. This song is definitely ideal pure hip hop to me, but we all have different tastes. Much love Ryan and George, keep doing your thing.
J. Cole & Rapsody - Sojourner please 🙏
Ive been waiting for that video☹

Yeah that song is absolutely fire, but he needs to react to KING ISO. Dude is better than Joyner and KAAN combined!
Andrew Thoppil honestly there’s at least 250 songs I’d love for them to review. 😂😂
ABSTRAKT UNIVERSE cracks me up everytime
Think it was a banger but nothing special. Yela and Royce killed that shit imo though 🔥
Ab-Soul - Threatening Nature
You GOTTA check Ab Soul - Pineal Gland... BARS ON BARS ON BARS over more hidden BARS haha
Mac Miller - Diablo
J.I.D - Working Out
Aminé - Rachet Saturn Girl
I was def one of the ppl who suggested this haha some of the spots where you guys ended up pausing kinda messed up the tension/flow in this but regardless love the input this is one of my fav by ab soul and this song still gives me chills personally you can really hear the pain in his voice, to me at least
Not to get too sentimental/over analytical here, but maybe the lyrics conflicting with this smooth, almost calming beat is reflective of Ab thinking of this love he lost. All these otherwise calming or happy memories tainted by that loss. Idk though, I don't listen to rap a lot and don't exactly have my thumb on the pulse of artists' lives. Not to be cheesy, but you should check out Wake Up Dead by Megadeth, or Gypsy by Mercyful Fate.
again, i just love you guys.
thanks, from lisa from Chi & now near Milw ♡
The girl singing part where it sounds overpowering was his girl. I think it is why he did it that way
This is one of top 100 fav songs in life
I actually cried when I heard this song (when it came out yeeeeears ago)
I'm glad you guys review one of the Most Underrated Lyricists of this Kendrick Drake Jcole Era. Every Lyricists in the industry is aware of Ab-souls penmanship... (even Jay Z).
Thank you for reviewing this.

Wowwwww did not ever expect this. This why I love y’all
MICK JENKINS- pieces of a man album of the year
WE NEED ANY OR ALL SONGS FROM MICK JENKINS NEW ALBUM "PIECES OF A MAN"!!!
I personally think that he is taking a risk that the majority of artists arent willing to take nowadays as far as blending poetry, lyricism and music and i also do not believe that 99% of artists would be able to accomplish what was done here.
I've always loved you guys but reactions like this make me ADORE YALL, some of my fav songs come from Ab- Keep listening to hip hop from the last few years soo much slept on shit!!!
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - nuclear fusion live on KEXP

Would love to hear your opinion of Hippo Campus "Bambi" as well! Big fan, stay up guys!
it feels like ur somewhere with the jazz music playing and he's just talking to you, different feeling for sure but i think he knew he could have put the song on a emotional hip hop instrumental, but this feels somewhat more real
Never been so excited to click on a video

I came across this channel like a month or so ago and I really love your reactions. There is a lot of reaction channels but yours is by far my favourite. It may be because you listen to art in the same way I do. It's very honest and you take your time and reserve judgment. I also love that you guys big up a lot of the U.K Grime scene. I think a lot of U.K artists love the U.S music scene as we influence each other which makes for some amazing results.
Anyway not sure if you will read this but loving what you guys are doing and much love from the U.K.
fiiiiiiinaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyyyy.
thank you so much for this one
Bro can’t believe this. Was about to ask you guys to react to this. This is amazing! Thanks guys!
Out of all the ab soul songs y’all pick this one
southerndevil08 it’s one of his best. Definitely his most real.
Turn me up, Illuminate and Drugs are great tracks as a whole IMO, this is more like a poem style like they said
southerndevil08 its a great song but not a ab song you introduce somebody too.
@@avonbarksdale91 I disagree! It's a great song to introduce someone to! A lot of women I know still consider this their favorite Soul song. It's just memorable and personal AF. It's a great start, but I think what you mean is... This isn't the best song to introduce to a REACTION CHANNEL! It is more of something you just listen to and take from. Not so much of a reaction song.
i know right lol.
I commented on your recent video on Hiiipower requesting that you do a reaction to this song, Thanks for doing it 4 years ago!
Ab soul is beeeeast. Listen to "Turn me up" and also "Fame" and "Soul Cry" they are definitely the best from him 👌won't be disappointed
yaaaaa this
''I love you in a place where there's no space or time'' is Leon Russell's line. Song For You.
TESSERACT - Of Matter (Live at Sphere Studios).
Please react to more Joey Bad Ass like songs off 1999 an amazing real hip hop mixtape. Hard knock is a master piece of a song
Chevelle - Any of these songs: Family System, The Clincher, Safer Waters, Humanoid, A New Momentum, Clones, An Island.
Ab Souls delivery is really interesting how he gives it to you and you can tell its coming from a deep place and inner thought. The way he illustrates his words were good too imagine where he's coming from and what he maybe feeling. I liked the jazzy sound of the beat really hits with that speaking to your soul vibe. Shoutout to Ab Soul and Great reaction to this song Lost In Vegas.
The beat is from one of MF Doom's special herbs albums. Love it on it's own, but not sure if it's a great fit here.
Its called Burdock root
It's the same sample but not the same beat though.
"I love you in a place where there's no space or time" is actually a Donnie Hathaway line from the song "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know"
As for the song, I like it, I've always been into smooth jazzy hip hop. This reminds me of Illadelph Halife era Roots.
Gotta do D.R.U.G.S or Just have fun by Ab-Soul
Man ive been a huge metal fan as of lately, but some years back i was a huge hip hop fan and was big on ab, cool to see you guys touch this gem.
Love the diversity, keep it up guys
wow can’t believe y’all did soul like this… so deep it went over y’all heads.. and that usually doesn’t happen
The song is something you sit and vibe to thru the words. If you know Ab’s catalog and history of his health and the woman he speaks of gives a personal in depth feeling. She was also a singer on the come up and was on TDE’s earlier stuff, Kendricks “HiiiPower” being a popular one. Her name is Alori Joh and she committed suicide. Not to go too deep but this song levels off on the album to hear Ab vulnerable and understand his persona compared to the others in the group. Definitely take some time to learn about Ab-Soul from his Long Term mixtape series.
Maximum the Hormone - Zetsouba Billy. A good intro to Japanese Heavy Metal.
Going off of what George said about how he could see this being performed live as a poem, i completely agree and i also think this could be performed live with a jazz band as well in just about any jazz club that welcomes "new jazz"
Please do Simon Says by Pharoahe Monch, remix or original are both great
Also I was suggested to add Broken Again, Rapid Eye Movement, Desire, Oh No & Releasing Hypnotical Gasses
Video 21
This is such a dope song from such an underrated artist.
Love it! 💙
I understood where he was going with the jazz beat and the lyrics. You know how in the 90's jazz movies when the main character is going through stuff theres like this chaotic sounding jazz track going on in the background, this is in a similar concept but it's more mellow, I guess due to his sadness instead of just being stressed the fuck out.
Kendick Lamar ft The Game - On Me would be amazing :-)
Should've took off the Caps.... Soul is Dope and it's blending well
Keith Whitley --- Dont close your eyes.
Great videos!
This entire album is gold. Anything from it should be good listen
Any Danny Brown?
I love this song. It's beautifully uncoordinated... I enjoy complex music so it kinda sounds normal to me BUT there are moments where I can hear where you guys could feel uneasy about the production and lyrics together
Naw book of soul ain’t the one of that album. Y’all should check out Terrorist Threats on there.
No such word as ‘naw’. Nobody understands you if you do not type correct English. Is it cos u is black?
All words are made up though
@@thomasskeffington4539 stfu no one likes you

Spillage Village. "Can't Call It"- J Cole, Earthgang, Bas, JID
it's a song you kinda have to be an ab-soul fan to appreciate the nuance. terrorists threats is a better song to react, him and danny brown both get off.
Hell yeah, one of my favorite rappers working today! I've suggested Ab-Soul a few times
I agree with the cohesiveness of the lyrics and the production. With that said, his lyrics are so meaningful that I personally can tune out the beat and listen to what he's trying to convey. So glad ya'll are doing Ab btw. He's such and overlooked lyricist. "Turn me up" and "illuminate" featuring kendrick I think ya'll would really enjoy. That showcases his ability to hit you with bars very well. "Double standards" is also a great song that has a great message to it....... if ya'll could also check out "Diablo" and/or "Objects in the mirror" by Mac Miller. Diablo is him at his rawest form and O.I.T.M shows how great and diverse of an artist Mac truly was. As always though great video guys!
I disagree. It connects very good and well
Y'all trippin... This song is FIYA‼️ One of his greatest songs! 💯💯
Please react to SOUTH AFRICAN rapper NASTY C ft ASAP - KING 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Carach Angren - The Funerary Dirge Of a Violonist. Really good Symphonic black metal band from Netherlands. The album with this song was released in 2012. Please checkout it out!.
The best somg of ab soul is end is near with mac miller.
“My rifle my pony and me” it’s a Dean Martin song but it’s from the movie Rio Bravo, it’s a great great country song
The lyrical exposure nobody was doing this at that time. To pour your heart out in such a groovy way. This helped somebody. It's not for the current set up. It's for who hears it.
Y’all need to give him another go and listen to Alarm Clock by Statik Selektah ft. Ab-soul, Jon Connor, and Logic. I’m sure the rattpack will be happy to see a logic feature they probably haven’t heard.
That's one of my fav Soul verses tbh 🔥
Y’all should react to Ab-Souls The end is near, it’s one of his best lyrical performance on any rap song
Thank you! Ab soul is so dope Control system is classic for me
The love of his life he is speaking about is Alori Joh. Her death, which was ruled a suicide. The body of the entertainer, born Loriana Johnson, was found at the base of the radio transmission tower in unincorporated Rancho Dominguez near Compton.
Wow! That's terrible.
This song is beautiful. She’s featured all over the album and then the album ends with a song about her
