    It’s true. The pitcher plants, if I remember correctly, are from a region, which hasn’t had volcanic activity for a long long long time and the soil is not nutrient rich.
    I find the history of different regions development really interesting. I used to work in natural museum when younger (though not that old 😊 ) and my favorite part was the geological exhibition. I loved to give tours there. ❤

    • @naturenel
      @naturenel  Месяц назад +1

      The way plants grow in specific geological locations is fascinating. Sometimes the lack of something in the land will produce some great plants. My favorite example of that is the Florida Ghost Orchid. Only grows under canopies of large trees that sit over the wetlands of the Everglades. The orchid does not produce any leaves. The roots act as the leaves for photosynthesis. It needs the extreme humidity of the swampy waters to push out one of the most beautiful orchid flower in the world. The best way to see the flower is kayaking under the canopies.

  • @markl.237

    Lovely blooms. It's so nice having the orchids mounted and planted au naturel, especially cattleyas and similar types. The way the healthy and active roots cling to the wood/ tree trunk, plus the risk of root rot is minimized, and no tiresome repotting if you have many plants.
    Btw, the cute white paphiopedilum looks similar to Paphiopedilum niveum, a species native to Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar. Flowers can be fragrant.

    • @naturenel
      @naturenel  Год назад

      Yes. The mounts keeps everything much healthier and easier to keep. It mimics their true nature in how they grow. And definitely avoids any root rot. You can water away! 🤗

      Thank you! I pretty much water every single morning. I don’t water in the rainy season as much. It’s very hot in Miami so things dry up here very fast. Every environment is different. You have to learn what each type of orchid likes. Not all like to be so wet. That’s why on a mount is easier because you can water every day without any concern of overwatering.

      More light and more feedings. I feed mine weekly with 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water together with Cal-Mag same dose. From Spring to end of summer. In the Fall and Winter I feed monthly full dose of 1 teaspoon per gallon of 20-20-20 only. Also make sure to feed bloom booster on the fourth week of every feeding cycle. When you feed Bloom Booster do not feed 20-20-20. Bloom Booster ration would be 1 teaspoon per gallon of water.

    If we do a Super Thanks for you, does RUclips take a percentage?

    • @naturenel
      @naturenel  Год назад

      Yes. RUclips keeps a 30% of the Super Thanks. 70% goes to the channel. It’s a bit disappointing but that’s how they have it layer out under their guidelines.

    Yo tengo mas de una docena de Vandas, y ninguna esta floreando, las tengo afuera con mucha luz, las abono semanalmente, y nada, y la última que trato de darme un spike, se seco de la nada, no se que hacer😢

      Que pena me da. Estas haciendo todo bien por lo que leo. Trata de moverlas de lugar. Hay veces que no le gustan el local donde están y hay que moverlas. 🙏🏼

      @@naturenel Voy a tratar de moverlas a ver si veo cambios, lo curioso es que están creciendo bastante raices, pero nada de flores

    Hi Nelson and lois and all the kitties. Hope all is well. Everything look's great. I was wondering if you have Tangs phone number. I can't find a listing for Springwater Orchids. I wanted to order a plant. Thank's for your time. Videos have been great. Have a good evening.
