- This is my first of home revisited. After gaining 25K bees in a short period of being aired, I bring you back to orchid guru , Mercedes. This time around she offered to give a tutorial prices she uses and techniques that have worked in her environment for many many years, having some incredible orchids in large proportions. The tons of blooms are a sight to experience. Orchid collectors and enthusiasts alike know the challenges in keeping these amazing “aliens of the botanical world”, keep healthy and alive. Mercedes did not disappoint with her paradise garden. It’s my top home visit yet. She is a great inspiration to me and my viewers. I feel great knowing I can bring you all some more educational videos with fun and awe in the forefront. Keep it green!🍀

Simply put……..WOW! These orchids/plants love her! 😂 It doesn’t matter what she puts them in, a basket, an old grill, a pot, mounted, etc, they just grow and do amazingly 💚 She was so generous to share with us how she cares for her orchids and keeps them so healthy. Videos like this is truly inspirational 💕 I hope you continue to do videos at her home because it’ll never get old! Mahalo to both of you for such a wonderful video! Btw I loved the orchids she gave you, that was so nice of her 💕

The variety in her collection is endless. And you are right. No matter where she plants her orchids, they do incredibly well. 🤗

I cannot say enough about this visit. I think it is better than any orchid show I have seen. The variety and healthiness of these plants is amazing. I am just blown away by the amount of plants in her area and the condition of them all. Amazing. I am so grateful that you have revisited her and she shared her watering and feeding regimens. I am gardening in the West Palm Beach area so we definitely have similar growing conditions. The plants she has growing in full sun surprised me and I am going to seek out some of these as I have lots of full sun areas. I was surprised that she does not water vandas every day and I did not see any watering or misting systems. Does she hand/hose water everything?
I have a small vanilla orchid and I am going to secure it in the pot to an umbrella tree. Thanks for that advice. The gifts you were given are awesome. Thank you again for revisiting Mercedes' gorgeous garden.
Hi Jill! Indeed her garden feels like an upscale orchid nursery. She keeps it very simple. Make sure to acclimate your orchids slowly out to the sun. I still water my Vandas daily. I do keep them in hotter environments. Mercedes keeps her Vanda close together under a stronger shaded house. Mine are in full sun and some in the screen house. So they dry up very fast. Remember everything about orchids is spending time with them and move them around constantly in your yard until you find the sweet spot. What may work for Mercedes does not apply to every single orchid collector. I show you guys different ways of orchid keeping so that you can test it out yourself and discover better ways of orchid care for your environment.

Glad you are learning and growing orchids through my channel. Love to hear that. Definitely place your bamboo out in the sun. If you have had it in shade, make sure to move it little by little. Don’t go from shade to sun in one day. It may burn the leaves. Start with semi sun and work your way to full sun in a matter of a couple of weeks.

I am in the process of RELOCATING my mini orchid "garden" (in the planning stages) from my North Eastern facing porch, since I am also in the process of remodelling my home (bye, bye porch). This video has given me the inspiration, and innovation of redesigning an orchid space - under the eaves, and along the trunk of my very spacious mango tree!! Most of my orchids now need to be repotted in new baskets - and like Mercedes, I use a lot of charcoal - and beach pebbles (no lava rock here) - my "go-to" fertiliser and fungicide is aloe vera "juice". For the first time, for the past two months, my orchids are beginning to mature and bloom - profusely! My orchid passion began in 2020. Thank you so much Nelson and Mercedes for your guidance and inspiration. 💚💚💚🌱🌱🌱

What a collection! Liquid seaweed is great for plants in general.
I know! It’s used in so many natural agricultural systems. I just started using it on my feeding cycles. I can’t wait to see how it affects my plants. 🤗

I was so excited to hear you talk about thrips I have had spikes before but never blooms and didn’t know why
Yup! Thrips are usually the cause of buds blasting and not opening. I use Sevin insecticidal spray. It’s less toxic and does not harm nature’s little creatures.
