2 years ago, I started my journey to a new smile. Due to gum disease, I lost all but 8 of my natural teeth. I am 39 years old now. I know the pain of wanting to smile, but feeling afraid of how people will judge you. How people think you are less of a person, that you didn't take care of yourself. Tooth pain is the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. I wanted to get implants, but I couldn't afford it even when I had others willing to help me. I put off making my first appointment for a long time out of anxiety, fear, and worrying that I wouldn't be able to speak or eat normally, and that people would know I had fake teeth and probably judge me the same way they did for having bad teeth. Well, I finally called a dental school in my town and made an appointment. I was incredibly blessed to have amazing dentists and specialists work on me. People who genuinely cared about my concerns and my health and happiness. I have a smile like I could have never imagined. Not a single person has been able to tell I wear dentures unless I tell them myself and I am truly happy today to be able to smile without a second thought. I just want to say that I admire your courage and your heart to share your journey with the world. You will inspire and help many people to start their own journey to a new smile. I also have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (insulin dependent) sjogren's syndrome, lupus, fibro & klippel feil syndrome & all tha complications that come from those... (too many ta list) but I am now ona journey of gettin' full dentures (I'll be 47 on april 9th) & that's how I found u so I appreciate u tellin' ur story & lettin' us inta ur journey...
