    Красота! Как же мне нравится ретро стиль! Даже шнур в оплетке и выключатель идеально подходят к лампе! Больше всего переживала, что трудно будет провести провода внутри, но все безупречно сделано! Стильно и функционально! Такие вещи надо выставлять на онлайн аукцион👍👍👍👍👍

    • @VeradonaRestoration
      @VeradonaRestoration  Год назад +1

      Да, у меня были сомнения по поводу протяжки шнура до последнего момента, т.к. внутри очень много острых краев, затрудняющих натяжку. Спасибо

  • @Tishers
    @Tishers Год назад +68

    A suggestion on the light switch; Usually those come with an additional locking nut that you install between the metal plate and the switch-body. This allows the switch to set lower in the lamp so you do not have exposed threads on the top. It also provides a means for you to tighten down the upper locking nut without compressing the switch body.

    • @andyhoudini
      @andyhoudini Год назад +23

      Agreed. Only the knurled nut should be on the top of the base plate, the hex nut should be hidden underneath.

      Another beautiful restoration, thanks for sharing this insightful video. Great use of red wire to pull new wires through the lamp head. Additionally, awed by your use of clear heat shrink tubing at potential friction points.
      You two kids are amazing craftsmen. Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace

      Cute restoration. In addition, a shakeproof washer has been put between metal-plate and hex nut.

    • @pauljames9738
      @pauljames9738 Год назад +6

      25 or so years doing lamp repairs for a living. I agree about the switch install: the hex nut goes under the opening. By turning it up or down, you can minimize the amount of threaded piece showing, making a more presentable appearance. I'm a great fan of heat-shrink tubing, but I usually used a heat gun for greater control, although I certainly used a mini propane torch on occasion. Using the old wire to pull a fresh piece as you demonstrate is the best way -- ease it through gently. I often used a length of beaded chain (pull chain) as a fish tape. All in all, a very nice job! I seriously envy your powder-coat capabilities!

    Another fantastic restoration. At the beginning I thought that since this was just a humble desk lamp there couldn’t be much history. Once again you amazed me with the amount of history you uncovered for this all too common item that we have all just taken for granted.

    great restoration. a lamp worth bringing back to life again because of its historic value. On the toggle switch, the hex nut would go under the base and used to adjust how much the toggle sticks outside, you can get it flush to the surface with no threads exposed as a result. I love toggle switches and collect them to put them on lamps, motors and other things to make it look nicer and elegant.

    Beautiful job, there’s not much room for improvement other than the comment from Tisha Hayes about the switch and the additional nut. In restored a swing arm lamp last year. I was concerned about fishing the wire through all the joints. I saw a RUclips video where the person doing the work used a furniture paste wax on the outside of the wire to help it slide through the brass pipes. Worked like a charm. I don’t think it would work on the cloth covered wire though. My cord was the typical vinyl coated type. Thank you again!

    • @VeradonaRestoration
      @VeradonaRestoration  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the positive comment and advice :) As for the switch, I've already explained it here several times. And yes, I put the switch nut wrong, but in the final it wouldn't have been possible otherwise. I searched in vain for the original "low" switch in my country, it is no longer produced. I got the one I used (I didn't want a plastic one) and it was tight enough, since the base is closed with a cast iron weight, so there isn't much room left inside. This switch was already bigger than I needed. Even the hinged pertinax plate did not reach the stop by about 1 mm on the side of the switch.
      Thanks for watching Jim :)
