This is one of the most well produced, helpful, and informative computer videos I have ever watched. This 68yo granny just installed a second monitor without a hitch!
I've been limping along with a second monitor that kept cutting out to the point that I gave up and ended up using only my laptop and just endlessly toggling through my day. This is the first video I've found to fix my problems. I wanted to echo what others have commented on what an excellent job you did of explaining this! It really has changed my work day immensely. Many thanks:)
This video, by a country mile, is THE one to watch if you you are setting up dual monitors. I have been pulling my hair out for hours trying to set up my displays and i wish i had found this tutorial first. Thank you sir for your time and experience.
You Sir, are a great teacher, and a very well informed computer enthusiast. Best video I've found on setting up an extra monitor. Well done, and thank you.
I just want to say thank you...I appreciate you. I'm teaching high school virtually right now and we got all new tech on top of it! I'm going to hold you to my increased productivity by 2300% ;)
Your video was one of the most informative and easy-to-understand computer set-up videos I have ever watched. Thank you for including just the right amount of information at a steady and appropriate pace. I have never understood the multiple displays idea until now!! You have a new fan!
Such thorough instructions! To telework with less frustration, I really need to add my old monitor. I feel very empowered to try now. I can’t thank you enough! 👏🏽👏🏽
Perfect! Thank you. Just what I needed to know to connect my laptop to my new monitor and have both displays different. Easy because I know very little about connecting electronics.
For a beginner on using a 2nd monitor, this is the only video I found that helped me understand and able to set everything up. Very detailed and informative. Thank you, and more power to you Nerd Sidekick.
Thanks a lot, I had to work from home after years not doing so and setting my monitor with your instructions just made my frustrating day, definitely the cherry on the top of the cake
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was used to working on two monitors at work. Working from home on a small screen laptop reduced my productivity. I just added a monitor to my laptop with the help of this video. May God bless you.
Thank you for sharing this video. My wife has now started working from home. She needed a Dual Screen setup. I had a couple of monitors collecting dust. I did the setup, what I didn't know was how you can arrange the screens in the setup when you drag the mouse from one screen to the other. Thanks again, keep up the Awesome Video. Subscribing for sure!!!
I was so worried I wouldn't be able to figure out how to set up my second monitor, and I need one for work. Your video is amazing! I set it up, and am ready to go in no time! The hardest part was crawling around trying to plug them in. THANK YOU!
I really appreciate this video. I had just put away a 22" monitor because I am now using a laptop. I added the monitor to my laptop and you are right. Thank you Nerd Sidekick, you are a good teacher. I didn't know I could even do this. I had a 19'' HP screen sitting around collecting dust for almost 2 years when my tower crashed and burned. I picked up the adapter for my laptop and I'm in business. Thanks so much!

Thank you for sharing this very useful video! By the way you also have very natural ease way of explaining things! Thank youuuuuuuuuuu
I need a second monitor for my laptop. Thank you for making this a much less daunting task. A methodical approach that is helpful for those of us who are not fully tech savvy.
Just for clarification, one practical reason for offsetting your monitors like he's doing @ 12:24 is to make it easier to use the Snap feature (if you're using Windows). I'd love to hear other reasons if anyone has any. Thanks for submitting this great video
Thank you soooo much. Now working from home due to the virus. I use two monitors at work and trying to use one at home was a big headache. This is the most simple, calm, easily understood explanation I have found on how to add a monitor to my laptop. I can't say enough about how clear and yet concise your video is and how much it helped me. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much, you made it so easy to understand. I'm not tech savvy at all and you helped me extend view from 1 screen to another. Ready to work remotely.👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much. I have watched and attempted to learn from several videos but yours is the first that actually showed me HOW TO USE THE TWO MONITORS. I am forever thankful.
Thank you!!! I've been WFH and only have a small laptop computer. Trying to toggle between 4 or 5 different pages was so bothersome on a tiny laptop screen! I had an old monitor that I wasn't using. I watched your video, bought the necessary hook up at Target and I'm up and running with two screens! Woohoo! My life just got so much easier!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Thank you very much for explaining it so simply. I had my monitor lying around for 4 months since I bought a new laptop. Surely gonna give it a try now.
Thanks everyone for the kind comments! I am so glad this video has helped so many people during this challenging time. Millions of people are suddenly working from home, and need some help to make their home computer better. This video can help! Also, I just released a new video that shows how you can use a spare laptop as a second monitor for your main computer. Nothing to buy. No software to install. Just configure your computers the right way and you can use your laptop as a second monitor for your desktop or main laptop computer. Check that video here: ruclips.net/video/JNG1sCRiwyk/видео.html Some people have asked what to do if they don't have two video ports on their computer. If you have a desktop, you can always upgrade your video card. If you have a laptop, that's probably not an option, so you may be able to use a USB port as your second video port. To do that, you'll need a USB video adapter that converts output from a USB port to a video signal you can they connect to a second monitor. Here's an affiliate link to many different adapters. You will need to know which version of USB (USB 2 or 3) port you will be plugging into and what type of monitor cable connection you are plugging in. www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&tag=nerdsidekickyt-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=fba4b3bdcbb2b36c9c11e4717450117f&camp=1789&creative=9325&index=pc-hardware&keywords=usb%20to%20video%20adapter
Hi Fred, thank you for this very helpful guide. However, I tried to click "detect" under display settings in order for my second monitor to get detected. But when I clicked it, nothin happened. I also went to device manager also to enable the display adapters (only one display adapters available), it had been enabled already. I hope you can help. This is actually for my work from home set up that I need to do.
Fred you are great! I know next to nothing about computers but followed your tutorial and succeeded in connecting an old monitor to a semi old laptop without a hitch. I had a setup like this at my last job. Much easier to work with. Thank you much! P.S. I clicked on a different tutorial than yours first. The guy made it sound like we were going to dismantle a thermonuclear device that could go off any second. I nixed him in the first 60 seconds of his video. Best
This is a very helpful lesson Fred. Thank you for your very professional approach and interesting in-depth information. Keep up the good work! Very worthwhile. Best regards, Mike (in England).
