Rumour has it we might soon have to say goodbye to four beautiful fragrances from L'Art et la Matière. Probably to make room for others. Oeillet Pourpre, the former LUI is already gone from the website and Frenchy Lavande, formerly Le Frenchy, Embruns d'Ylang and Iris Torréfié might soon follow.
Oeillet pourpre and Embruns d'Ylang have already been discontinued at my local counter. (On their website only Embruns d'Ylang is still available). They told me they heard rumours about Iris torrefié and Tonka impériale being next.
This is heartbreaking. I have all four fragrances and I appreciate each one of them. They all remind me of a season, an event, or a significant moment in time. It is especially saddening to see Embruns D'Ylang go since it was one of the last from the line that I added to my collection. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments about that fragrance. It is simply stunning. Complete strangers come up to me to ask about it when I wear it. I'm almost out of my 100ml and have already purchased a 200ml bottle that I plan to use sparingly. I doubt that I'll get back up bottles of the others but I'll have my memories.
I was very surprised at Embrûns as well. It is one of the very best of LArt et la Matière and just like you, it was among the last from the line that I added to my wardrobe. And it was launched not so long ago, in 2019. When I first smelled it in 68 Champs Elysées, at launch, I thought it was a nice floral, but after wearing my sample a few times I understood it better and it is one of the most delicate ylang smells ever. Such a beautiful craftsmanship.
Couldn't agree with you more. Le Frenchy, Iris Torrefie beautiful imho. And i was lucky enough to grab a few bottles of Lui a few years back on rumors of axing.... You've peaked my interest on The ylang release. I love a well done banana accord. Thank you for this. Enjoying your content ✌🏻🙏🏻

(There is no Iris like Guerlain, I agree) But I just fall in love with ŒILLET POURPRE.. such a narcotic rogue floral.. but I think I will barely have any chance to use them. But I crave this so much.. kind of too beautiful to forget. Do you think should I go ahead? it is now also discontinued in my country too. 😢 (Edit : typo)
I loved Oeillet Pourpre since first smelling it when it was called Lui, and i have 3 bottles of it. It’s quite a unique benzoin-carnation, it’s dark and chocolatey, i can’t be without it :(
Thank you for your review. Guerlain is impossible to sample where I live and so everything is a blind buy. Making a mistake when you pay $380 is not something I want to experience so most of these fragrances will remain daydreams. 😄 I think fragrance houses that don't sell samples are losing hundreds, if not thousands, of customers buying full size bottles.
You are completely correct! The fact that they do not sell samples and their price points are so high (for instance, Dior at least sell 40ml bottles for cheaper) it means fewer people want to discover and get into what is arguably the best fragrance experience there is. And they will lose clients as it is an uphill battle with niche and clone houses who have better prices, better coverage, better performance, everything. It’s a shame when you realize that niche is now the new mainstream

Hello and welcome! I always think about my favourites from L’Art et la Matiere. Maybe Angelique Noire and Bois d’Armenie? Definitely Neroli Outrenoir and Tonka Imperiale. Many good fragrances there. Spiritueuse Double Vanille is amazing, Cuir Beluga, same. Embruns d’Ylang deserved better, so did Iris Torrefie! Hard to say, really. But I always try to rank them, don’t know why
@@MemoryFlo I currently own (new packaging) Spiritueuse Double Vanille, Tonka Imperiale, Feve Gourmande, Oud Nude and Tobacco Honey. I also purchased my wife Rose Cherie. I really enjoy Iris Toreffie, but I’m struggling to justify the purchase as it is similar to the Dior Homme line in my opinion. Maybe I’m not quite understanding that fragrance yet. Also, I struggle to fully understand Néroli Outrenoir. Many consider it a masterpiece so I feel as though I’m missing something there as well.
The infuriation, the ire. Such passion. I have never actually smelled 3 of them. And the one I have, iris torrifie, I was not impressed by it at all. I didn’t get passed its synthetic nature. As I always say, try everything twice in life. So try it again I will.
@@MemoryFlo I finally found my sample- I really don’t know materials well enough. My generic response would have been amber woods. But the off putting begins from the very start so I’m not sure it’s amber woods because they are usually obnoxious in the dry down. Whatever it is gives me a headache and I’m not somebody prone to headaches at all. On the positive side, the iris in it is quite lovely.
@@kellylyons7611 Thanks! I was asking because at some point in the fragrance, there's a sweet stage reminiscent of ball-point pen ink. But it doesn't happen all the time. Just sprayed it now and it's clean iris-cardamom. Funny how differently we experience scents
Not as far as i know. If you live in Europe, you might try Place Vendome, maybe they have it at the fountains still. In reality, you could try searching for an older bottle of Lui. Same fragrance and it used to be so cheap back in the day :(
@@MemoryFlo i live in Germany. Tbh i never smelled oeillet pourpre, i only had Lui but after they discontinued it, i couldn't find it anywhere not even online. I was happy they rebranded it but now its gone again. Sorry for asking but do you mean Place Vendome in Belgium?

DEci am venit eu pe canalul ăsta ca să văd ce zici despre Iris Torrefie, pe care l-am testat zilele trecute (cel vintage) și a fost LOVE at first siff 🥲❤ și acum că am aflat că va fi discontinuat, înțeleg că trebuie să mă grăbesc ))). Ai comparat cumva side by side pe cel în sticla de 75 ml cel nou? Vreau să mă asigur că ce cumpăr e întocmai cu ce am mirosit. Merci pentru ce faci!🙏
Salut si bine ai venit! Torrefie e aparut in 2020, este absolut acelasi parfum. Daca iti place genul acesta de parfumerie mai arunca un ochi catre: l’initial guerlain, si gama Dior Homme: edt original, intense, parfum. Stilul de iris este destul de similar

I just bought a 200ml of frenchy Lavande for half price on ebay, a nice spring and summer aromatic lavender 🪻

Out of the rereleases there's many interesting things: Herbes Troublantes, Epices Volees, Oeillet Pourpre (discontinued). All very nice choices
