    Love how you do a full tenon instead of the gibson style with the cheeks, I just had to build 2 Les Paul copies and an explorer for a client and they wanted them exactly like Gibson it's a pain in the but to get those tenon cheeks to line up seamlessly it's a lot of back and forth with a super sharp chisel and sanding blocks. I prefer the way you do it it makes way more sense plus it probably sustains better too since you have the full width of the neck instead of a smaller tenon. You build great guitars man.

    • @Projectelectricguitar
      @Projectelectricguitar  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks eddie. I'm not a fan of the Gibson-style tenons. I agree with you, they are complicated to make and I don't see any advantages to them, I much prefer the PRS-style joints.

    This is sick. I'm partially building a guitar. I bought the neck and used an old body but I'm routing it out for a floyd and I have to enlarge the neck pocket, so I'm getting some of the experience of building from scratch. I'm going to do this eventually but I don't want to push it for my first build. I guess I probably should have gone hard tail in that case, but I don't have a floyd guitar yet.

      I built many instruments in the early 80s using walnut for fret boards (oiled) and in laminated bodies. Seeing that wonderful grain come to life on that explorer under the finish in your video helped my 2017 roll back 35 years. It was great to remember being young and building instruments again. Best.

I'm going to attempt an explorer build, I'm wanting to do sapele back w/ undetermined veneer top. Going for a viking theme, for my nephew who is in a band he formed,12 yrs now. And very proud of his viking heritage.
    Question: when adding a veneer,how thick should back piece of wood be ?and how thick for veneer? Thanks for any help.

    Wow, this is absolutely amazing. The Explorer, and of course guitars like Snakebyte, the E-1, etc. is by far my most favorite body shape of all that's out there, and you sir made on fine piece of musical awesomeness. Watched the video of you demoing it as well. Bang up job, seriously. Just out of curiosity, is this a hobby, business, or combination of the 2? Just wondering if you make these for fun, make and sell, or have customers tell you what they want and you make them accordingly? You are just damn good at what you do and I wouldn't be surprised if people flocked for a piece of your work. I wish I had the space to even or tools to even attempt to make my own guitars haha.
