- I show in a photo-video diary, the process of building this Explorer guitar. The body is mahogany and the top and neck are walnut. The fingerboard is maple with walnut dot inlays and walnut binding.
You can see the full set of photos of this build here: projectelectricguitar.com/guit...
You can follow my guitar building on my Facbook page ( / jakalianguitars .
See a demo video of this guitar here: • Jakalian Explorer Buil...

welcome to 2016, where gibson wont make us a quality explorer so we have to make it ourselves.
sick job tho! i dont have the time or money to make one myself.
haha! Thanks!
Or skill
Welcome to 2018, gibson is soon backrupt and after that we MUST make our own explorers now
You wish you could do that
@@Projectelectricguitar how long did the process take? And how much did it cost?
this is a such a labour of passion...I hate it when some assholes bash and break these beautiful pieces of art
Anuraag Nandagiri people generally break the factory made ones
Those assholes make millions and can afford it.
If i was building these and selling them, once it leaves my shop and has been paid for you can burn the thing for all I care.
Are you just jealous that they CAN afford to break those guitars
Beautiful guitar, excellent job!
Thank you!
I've been a Luthier since 1980, and I love the way you built this guitar. If Gibson made guitars this nice, they wouldn't be in debt right now. Realy nice job.
Thanks Fred, that's very nice of you to say.
Hey this is the first video I have ever seen of yours and I'm blown away with the final product! I can't wait to see more of you videos👌🏻
Cool thanks! I have two more build videos you can watch: ruclips.net/video/eVuqVgnKat8/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/XOMJA3fsdmQ/видео.html
Such a beautiful piece of art. Those curves neatly done. Love your job. Keep it coming
Amazing workmanship! This really shows how much work is involved in guitar making. It came out beautiful.
Thanks Bob.
Absolutely beautiful work, you did everything the way I'd prefer. Tru oil is wonderful, its a simple finish that allows the wood to speak for itself. Two thumbs up for detail and craftsmanship!
Thanks Will!
Oh WOW!!! I love the headstalk. And the dark wood binding on the lighter fretboard is gorgeous! Nice job bro
Thanks Harvey!!
Probably one of the best looking Guitars Ive ever noticed.
Thanks!
Project Electric Guitar do you sell these?
The headstock reminds me of Metallica frontman James Hetfield's signature ESP Snakebyte.
An absolute joy to watch. What an amazing guitar!
Thank you!
This was really fun to watch, well done on the guitar, it looks amazing
Thank you.
Beautiful job. My favorite guitar of them all!
Thanks Jefferson. The Explorer is also one of my favourite shapes.

Thank you.
Im impressed! Both of the skill and the fact that you have the time, man! Fabtastic! 👍
Thanks. I make time in my life for things that are important to me and take time away from things that are not.
LOVED the neck design! beautiful guitar that.
Great job !! That came out killer looking!
Thanks!

Thank you!
REALLY ENJOY YOUR BUILDS MAN, VERY NICE WORK.
wow very nice build. my compliments. you seem to know really well how to do this.
Thank you!
Nice work! Love the walnut top.
Thank you!
that fretboard is absolutely stunning
I agree, that fretboard is one of the highlights on this guitar.
stunning! *drooling seeing that beautiful natural wood
Thanks!
My same reaction. To my eye, a guitar just doesn't look satisfying unless the grain is showing, whether all natural or else stained.
wow! amazing work! beautiful guitar
Thanks!
pure perfection.
Wow.. looks very nice.
It's a Beauty ! great craftsmanship.
Thank you!
Beautifully done.
Thank you.
this is priceless craftsmanship i also built an explorer i know.and it makes us happy or. good work complimenti salute a sardegna
simply breath taking
Thank you Keith.
Love how you do a full tenon instead of the gibson style with the cheeks, I just had to build 2 Les Paul copies and an explorer for a client and they wanted them exactly like Gibson it's a pain in the but to get those tenon cheeks to line up seamlessly it's a lot of back and forth with a super sharp chisel and sanding blocks. I prefer the way you do it it makes way more sense plus it probably sustains better too since you have the full width of the neck instead of a smaller tenon. You build great guitars man.
Thanks eddie. I'm not a fan of the Gibson-style tenons. I agree with you, they are complicated to make and I don't see any advantages to them, I much prefer the PRS-style joints.
Hermosa..!!

Thank you Dave!
Beautiful!👍😎🎸🎶
Thanks
@@Projectelectricguitar yep!☺
This is sick. I'm partially building a guitar. I bought the neck and used an old body but I'm routing it out for a floyd and I have to enlarge the neck pocket, so I'm getting some of the experience of building from scratch. I'm going to do this eventually but I don't want to push it for my first build. I guess I probably should have gone hard tail in that case, but I don't have a floyd guitar yet.
Thanks. Modifying an old body is a great way to start...
I'm into my 3rd strat style build... once you start you won't stop! I still have pieces of my custom Tele I'm working on laying around...
AMAZING!!!!
Thanks Ray!
Rob Chapman would be jealus...well done sir :D
Thanks!
Rob would not know how to even begin actually building a guitar.
Because he can't actually build a guitar...
Very Nice !
Thank you
beautiful work, thank you very much
Thank you Tom.
I built many instruments in the early 80s using walnut for fret boards (oiled) and in laminated bodies. Seeing that wonderful grain come to life on that explorer under the finish in your video helped my 2017 roll back 35 years. It was great to remember being young and building instruments again. Best.
Haha... maybe you should think about getting back into it!? :)
That background music is so good!!! Sounds like music from Deus Ex
Thanks Tony, it's my own music, it's called Blue Skies... you can find more of my music here soundcloud.com/user5783581/tracks :)
Awsome dude
Thanks man!
amazing job bro. i wish i knew how to build guitars
Thanks. There are lots of videos on RUclips and plenty of forums that you can learn from... Also, you can start building from a kit.
I would love to see someone make an explorer with a floyd rose bridge in it
Check Out Matthias Jabs' Explorer
Very nice job,I think it would look awesome with Gold hardware too.
Thanks. For gold hardware I would prefer a slightly darker wood to get a better contrast... but I know what you mean.
very good!!!!!
Thanks!!
It's kind of a mix of 2 James Hetfield's guitars, the snakebyte and custom kl explorer... I LOVE IT
Thanks! Actually, James Hetfield was my inspiration for wanting to build and own this guitar.
Beautiful 👌😍
Thank you!
Head stock is COOL
dude beautiful
Thanks man!
I know I'm a "Johnny come lately" but I just saw your build on reverb, and from there discovered your videos here. You are so fricken skilled,it blows my mind! I'm going to attempt an explorer build, I'm wanting to do sapele back w/ undetermined veneer top. Going for a viking theme, for my nephew who is in a band he formed,12 yrs now. And very proud of his viking heritage.
Question: when adding a veneer, how thick should back piece of wood be ?and how thick for veneer? Thanks for any help.
Can you give us full size plan of this guitar? Its awsome!
Wow, this is absolutely amazing. The Explorer, and of course guitars like Snakebyte, the E-1, etc. is by far my most favorite body shape of all that's out there, and you sir made on fine piece of musical awesomeness. Watched the video of you demoing it as well. Bang up job, seriously. Just out of curiosity, is this a hobby, business, or combination of the 2? Just wondering if you make these for fun, make and sell, or have customers tell you what they want and you make them accordingly? You are just damn good at what you do and I wouldn't be surprised if people flocked for a piece of your work. I wish I had the space to even or tools to even attempt to make my own guitars haha.
Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. This is a hobby slowly becoming a business... Yes, I do also make custom guitars for people. If you're interested in following my work and staying connected, you can follow me through my Facebook page facebook.com/JakalianGuitars/
Again thank you for the nice comments!
I always dream of making my own axe, my dream guitar would be a scalloped fret carl Thompson body six string with one humbucker and an emg
Nice!!!!
Thanks!
im guessing includeing parts wood and the time it took to make it would go for 2500 easealy walnut koa and other woods are quite spendy unless youre family owns a wood shop georgeous guitar mate well done
Sweet!!
Thanks!!
very kool
Man I want a Def Leppard Phil Collen used love that guitar. I wish I had wood working skill

Great job ! I am also considering about starting the same project, but i cant seem to find any detailed plans/blueprints.Did you have any or you did it by photos and experience?
Thanks Dimitrios! You can find plans for many guitars here novellaguitars.com/free-guitar-plans-download/
Snakebyte headstock lookin' cool
Quality build another stunner the only thing I would of done is some binding around the pickups just for preference
Thanks Thomas. Yes I agree, pickup rings would be nice.
Project Electric Guitar hope to see it soon buddy
... maybe on the next one.

Thanks!
That's a sexy looking headstock outline fit for EX style.
