  • Hey everyone,
    this is the video series on how I build an explorer type guitar. I had done many stages of the building process (on both body and neck) off camera, since I wasn't planing on video documenting this build in the beginning. However, with the corona pandemic I had more time than expected, so I wanted to complete the guitar and also make new videos. Also, I had to move from my workshop space to my old Plan B kitchen workshop, as I couldn't enter the building where my actual workshop is due to the quarantine rules here in Germany.
    In this part you will see the following steps:
    custom 12th fret inlay
    fretting
    neck back contour shaping
    headstock logo carving.
    The next part will be up soon.
    Enjoy!

    You know you're getting quality when it's done the hard way. Just the headstock logo was a piece of art, not to mention the fingerboard inlay. Very nice. Top notch.

    It must be very satisfying after all that neck profiling... feeling it and get the exact results you had expected... great work

      @ArkesGuitars  3 года назад +1

      Yes! The whole process of shaping the back contour of a neck is very relaxing and satisfying in a way. Feeling the end result in your hand is amazing…if you nailed it right away…otherwise more filing and sanding needs to be done! 😎

    Those inlays are awesome, you did great job homie, & random question, do you know if you can do the same thing to customize a kit guitar neck?

    • @ArkesGuitars

      Thanks. Well, it depends on the kit guitar neck. If it’s already fretted then no. Otherwise yes.
      Cheers

    What kind of templates did you use? I have found/paid for several Explorer Templates but all of them lack a lot of information about the neck etc...

      Thank you. Well, yeah. I had an Epiphone explorer from which I got many details. Although this clearly isn’t a Epiphone shaped explorer.

    I LOVE the designs you did on the neck, what type of problems did you run into when building the guitat

    • @ArkesGuitars
      @ArkesGuitars  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! What problems? Well, on this one really only COVID-19 since we all (in Germany) had to stay at home in the beginning. Therefore I couldn’t finish the guitar in my woodshop but instead in my kitchen 😉

    I’d like to build my own guitar one day. Could you give any tips for a beginner?

    • @ArkesGuitars
      @ArkesGuitars  3 года назад +5

      Hey, that sounds awesome!
      My first tip would be: Just do it! It’s not brain surgery. You’ll make some mistakes for sure but will also fix them!
      Get a basic tool sortiment: router, jig saw, a lot of clamps!
      And with each build you’ll buy more tools.
      There are many ways to build a guitar!

      I would recommend using some cheap woods for practice and not AAA-flamed maple...

    gostaria de saber qual é a medida para se fazer o shape do braço, de onde vai sai do inicio do headstok até a parte onde ele encaixa no no corpo? E se possível também com quantos milímetros voce deixou o braço já com o acabamento pronto para colocar a escala? agradeço e voce é um super profissional.

      Hi,
      as I told you before, I came up with the plans using my old Epiphone Explorer and making it sharper.

    What is that tool you used to transfer the print to your headstock? Also it is just a regular ink jet print out?

    • @ArkesGuitars
      @ArkesGuitars  3 года назад

      It needs to be printed through a laser printer. Other than that it’s a normal print out.

    You’ve done excellent work I’m not a hater but please please don’t have your fingers in front of the chisel like you did there are a million great techniques out there about your fingers at risk like that. Otherwise outstanding work.

Foi o único vídeo no RUclips que vi fazendo assim, muito bom seu trabalho, já sou escrito do seu canal, desde já agradeço.
