- Today we meet and take a tour of my friend Ron's Beautifully converted Sprinter Van. Ron is a devoted backpacker and loves it so much he became a Though-hiker of America's long trails such as the Appalachian Trail. I think you are going to get some great ideas as we go through his Sprinter!

Love that he is living the dream, living in a van whilst running a multi-million dollar company. But he appears not to have lost any of his passion for simplicity, and is so humble. Most CEO’s would have bought a mega RV, but he is making double use of kitchen roll, and pooping in a converted shredder bucket. Awesome 🤣
That super fast couch to bed it set up is the best. He's also the fastest bed slinger in the West💕💖👌
Ron is such a wealth of practical and innovative knowledge. I am always amazed at all the videos of people spending thousands of dollars to build their van before they ever even leave the driveway! Just go and figure it out along the way! One of your best interviews videos yet Bob!!
@@akau1340 Yes of course, but in in context of my sentence the message was that many people do that -----before---- they even start.
@@64maxpower Yeah, if you have traveled and camped in a van before, you know what you are getting into, and know exactly what you want, and have the money ...go for it. But there are so many people following this trendy "Van Life" stuff, they invest thousands of dollars on builds... drive out into BLM land, and the first few days when they have to poop in a bucket or go without a shower, they head back "home." I guess if you have a nice home, money, and want a hobby...great. BUt if you watch this video, even this guy started off with what is really the most important thing... get out into nature. I used to run a backpacking shop. HUNDREDS of people came in buying the best tents, sleeping bags, and camp gear for their very first camping trip. When I worked at the flagship REI store we had tons of returns of new equipment from people who just hated camping. SO I guess, if you got money to burn, and a warm home to go back to then blow your wad on a build you are not even sure you will use more for more than a week. I guess the question is "WHY" do you need to a fully build van at a cost of $5,000 or more, before you even try to leave your driveway. To each their own.

We hope to someday be allowed back so we can happily swing on the vines again. Oh man, I like Ron, he has inspired me deeply.
And to add, having a legit business I bet attracts no trouble. He is probably welcomed everywhere because he clearly is a hard worker.
Especially since his business is related to his lifestyle. If anyone asks what he's doing somewhere, he can just say he's testing out some backpack equipment, and his sprinter is the remote laboratory.
I really love the layout in this van. The convertible sofa is brilliant! And, Ron seems like such a nice, humble man.

I love this! So many great design ideas! Leave it to an ultralight hiker...”no more than 2 minutes to do anything”. Love that he doesn't cover his window views AND he rides a Rad Power bike! I notice many RVers are buying Rad.

Me, too on the paper towels. Wash your hands, hang them on the rack to dry. If you washed your hands the towel is still clean. ❣

Great systems. Superb designs. My favs were the truck bed used as extetior coating, the bed/couch, the toilet, and the swivel rack in the garage.

I also recycle my paper towels. I live in a house and he is correct. The last one is good enough to use as the next one. I dedicate a drawer in my bathroom for the used paper towels.

Really love the overall design. That garage with bike swivel solves the bike storage issue I’ve been tinkering with. I’d like an inside shower but that’s just a personal preference. The non-kitchen is perfect for my taste. The bed seems to be a variation on the British ‘rock and roll bed’. Lots of clever design, thanks for bringing this to us!

My daughter has that paint work on her Land Cruiser and she goes 4WDriving through the Australian bush and it doesn’t scratch or rust.

Yes, it's Van Specialties. However, while they still make them, the new flip mechanism isn't nearly as good. I purchased another one for a new van I'm building. Hopefully, I'll be able to sort it out and modify it to work correctly. In the meantime, I can't recommend having one made. Sorry.....
Older Motorhome have couch to bed that are very similar. Flexsteel might make them or would know a supplier
I had a similar bed in my 1986 Airstream Motorhome. They were common in many older Motorhomes. RV salvage yard in Indiana likely would have some that could rebuilt if needed
