This album is very personal for Chino and the rest of Deftones. They wrote this album while Chi Cheng, their original bass player and long time best friend, was in a coma. Before Diamond Eyes, The band, including Chi, were hard at work developing the unreleased album 'Eros'. Chi went on to write and record only 4 tracks on Eros before the car accident. This sadly resulted in a coma. Chino and the rest of the guys ultimately decided not to continue their work on Eros. They basically shelved the album, and held on to the tracks sentimentally in respect for chi. Understandably, they got pretty depressed, but eventually went on to start working on Diamond Eyes. That's when their current bass player, Sergio Vega, joined the band. Diamond Eyes was written while chi was still in a coma. The writing process was pretty visceral and at most times, sad for the band. This album is very special to the members of Deftones. Chi sadly passed away. The entirety of the Diamond Eyes album makes me sad, but happy. You can truly feel the love in these tracks.
New Deftones album is dropping later this year, though it may be delayed due to logistical issues stemming from Covid-19.

God dam bro I see you are reacting to almost every song by them, they are my favorite band by far. Looks like I got some content to watch for the next few hours lol.

Glad this finally got released, and glad you enjoyed it (which I assumed you would). The thing that is really great and innovative about this song (and Much of this album) is how Steph finally figured out to do Meshuggah like riffs and make almost pop music out of it.

Imo thats what stef does better than anyone. He takes genres that are usually not considered “poppy” and makes them much easier on the ears for casual listeners.

Finally! I remember when the song came out before the album was released I listened it again and again like 20 times per day. I was completely addicted to it. I recommend Poltergeist from their next album Koi No Yokan.

Finally! thanks! This entire CD was heavily influenced by the passing of their friend and bassist Chi Cheng, hence the theme of some of their songs depicting some kind of lost relationship. Agreed this was Deftones in their prime tho.

You did it! Won your copyright appeal and completed the Deftones' journey, against all odds. They all said you couldn't do either, but you showed 'em, Jersh...In all seriousness, it was fun to watch. The music video for the song wasn't, imo. C-Movie quality. But it's a bad ass song. Short but sweet. Hope to see you try that riff. The song's about Chi, like much of this album.

@@SuperJersh The pleasure was all mine. Looking forward to more Deftones in the future whenever you get to it. But now that you've closed the chapter on being immersed in that one band, I think Alice in Chains would be a seamless transition. Lost in Vegas have a marathon of them scheduled. Beat them to the punch!

bernman23 haha well something about me is I always try to do my own thing so if I’m aware of things other people do I try to go in a different direction, Alice In Chains still on the list and they’ll get a video in the near future to see how I feel and what people think :)

@@SuperJersh If you really want to be punk rock, you should react to the band "Snot". IMO they were the best nu metal band, if Deftones is not considered one. May have made it big, but their front-man died after the first album. Probably will be among the lowest viewed videos you do, but punk rockers can't be arsed with those considerations. Incidentally, many of the luminaries of that era participated in a tribute album called "Strait Up", including Corey Taylor. So that would be fodder for more reactions and to bring in fans of those bands.

Speaking of Sergio Vega- the bass player who took over after Chi Cheng's accident- he was in a band named Quicksand, which put out two brilliant albums (and maybe some EPs or ancillary tracks ) that are well worth listening to and reacting to. Short songs, great writing, full of emotion and hard hitting. The albums are Slip and Manic Compression.

2 years later i realized Quicksand put out a 3rd album in the mid teens. AND they put out an album last year (2021) One of which is great and the other of which is incredible. :)

For me Deftones are a hit or miss but I really love this song so I'm glad you're finally reacting to it! I really prefer this style than some of their older songs.
