It rained most of the day and I had this one moment to walk around. We will definitely go back and film a talking walkthrough of this incredible garden. Thanks for watching!
To share this passion with a partner is something I've never had, my family barely notices how I make every place we've ever lived have beauty. Thanks for sharing this with us!
You’d be surprised-When visitors come & see what you’ve done , your family gets a sense of pride & shame (they didn’t help- so they can’t take credit!) . This is what happens in my household. Also ask them to help. I also talk a lot about gardening with - what’s blooming, what requires extra watering, height of plants, color , plant cycles . I ask them to come out outside with me & look. I get their opinions . They do notice! Don’t feel they don’t. ❤
They are friends and we love their garden. It actually takes quite a number of visits to thoroughly take in the planning and taste of Bill and Linda. It is a gem!
I entered 'Heaven on Earth' on my google map - and it took me here!! There are no words for this breathtakingly beautiful garden. Linda and Bill Pinkham, thank you so very much for sharing your gardens with us. Stephanie and Jim, thank you for introducing us to the Pinkhams and their filming their garden.
Along with a master gardeners group, I had the privilege of touring Linda and Bill's garden. It is magnificent. I was a frequent shopper when they had their nursery, Smithfield Gardens. So many people, including myself, were sad when they retired. They are the nicest people and always made everyone feel welcome, I'm so glad you had the opportunity to highlight their garden and share it with your viewers.
I used to get all my plants from Smithfield Gardens and Coleman’s. I always loved just walking around Smithfield Gardens. It was truly a sanctuary. I still miss it.
I often wonder when I see beautiful gardens like this one - how they can be sustainable. From my own experience I sold my home of 30 years with a beautiful shade garden and very quickly the garden diminished as it was not cared for by the new owners. I hope these older gardeners can find a way to keep this one intact when the time comes.
Such an incredible garden! Candy for the eyes of any plantaholic!! Please visit again with another video interviewing the owners/creators of this fantastic garden, if they will allow! And ask lots of questions - with the video running. I don't think I could possibly ever get enough of this garden. Thank you & Steph many times over for this great tour!!!
Appreciate the variety and how lush everything is grown on a grand scale here. As a plantsman and designer, I also value open space to rest the eye and provide space to linger. While such variety is wonderful, when space allows, I prefer two repeat some plants to help give the collectors garden a little more continuity as you move through it.
My favorite is the Greek Sleep Music song. I was hoping to hear it in this video. Thanks for sharing another beautiful garden. You have a similar gardening style. Love it.
Wow! Beautiful walk thru.I love the crevice garden in the beginning. I have never seen one so big. i love the path, I love those big rock paths, love all those different conifers and the pines! wow wow. and then the garden at 25 min! OH! and then the grass paths! It Looks like every plant is very happy in its space. Jim I would be speechless to! hahaha look at 5.55 don't you think that looks like a lady overseeing the garden.. long pigtails her head and then the body.. thanks for sharing, Genie : )
SPECTACULAR 💚 it’s even hard to find words, and this was all done for the love gardening, excellent collection. …….i am sure there is a big bird habitat. Thanks for sharing 🍃🌿. Please please come back ,definitely many Thanks to owners and their hard work….it’s a masterpiece 🌱
Wow. Thanks so much for posting this garden. I loved the conifer gardens around the house and driveway. So moody. The koi pond and fountain, and paving nearby were lovely. The cactus garden was great with what looked like agave, mangave and yucca among other things. There was a beautiful flame thrower redbud (I think!) at the beginning. Just stunning. I also liked their use of caladiums and tropicals. Thanks again.
I've been lucky enough to have visited this garden several times. And I still haven't seen it all. I always walk away with ideas and inspiration. So glad you featured Bill and Linda's garden on your channel.
WOW!! STUNNING!! Thank you Jim, Stephanie, and the Pinkhams for sharing this BEAUTIFUL garden with us. What is that wonderful yellow ground cover around the 21:30 mark?? 😍 What an INCREDIBLE dream garden. GORGEOUS 😍
Just beautiful. I feel like the use of large shrubs and accent trees created enough negative space to keep it looking restful even with all the variety. The study in textures is incredible. And then rounding a corner to see that stunning koi pond? Wow!
Wonderful use of evergreens and whimsical garden art -- what an amazing garden. You must do a walk and talk -- I would love to find out what some of the more unusual plants are.
Thank you for taking us along on a tour of The Pinkham Gardens! We visited their garden last year for a daylily tour and loved it! And, yes, it rained while we were there as well. Linda gave us a Gladiolus to take home and we had no idea if it would grow in our zone 7a garden in PA...but it did, and it looked great! Again, thank you for the tour!
Thanks for sharing your visit to that wonderful garden. The thing that struck me was how peaceful and cohesive the whole place felt even though there were so few plant repetitions. I've been a gardener for 60 years(in coastal New Jersey, suburban Maryland, coastal and central valley in California) and have never even seen most of the plants they had collected before.
This was relatable...I would not be able to garden at all if I didn't put up deer fencing, I also was also ready to throw in the towel! But once I put it up my whole garden (life) changed!! Enjoyed this tour thank you!
@@RachelPotter2807 Sure! i did it myself... so i used metal black wire fencing 5' tall i believe that i bought from local box store. The type that they sell in the back, rolled up. also used T posts (metal) and secured them with zip ties to my split rail fence posts. we also have 6' tall solid fence on some sides (but that fence doesn't cover my whole property, so as said where i needed it i added the blk fencing). it took some time to do it and i had some areas of weakness where i had to add another foot or 2 and secured that to hedges, etc from neighbors. it has made a huge difference! PS- in my case, i couldn't leave an inch for them bc they will waltz right in. hope this helps!
Wow! I live in Hampton. Just as I had a home of my own, I found Smithfield Gardens. It was very shortly after that, the nursery closed. I didn’t know what happened or who the owners were. I remember they had very unique plants. Couldn’t believe there weren’t any relatives or interested buyers to continue the store. I would’ve taken it! It was a nursery for real gardeners. By that I mean people that garden all year long and want plants other than the offerings at the big box stores or even some of the garden centers here. My daughter has since moved to Smithfield and is cultivating their property. Every time we pass the property where the nursery once was, she says she wishes she would have been born earlier 😂
Alright. I don't believe this garden exists in real life, lol. How can a large garden like that be, literally, perfect?!! I mean this garden is a 10/10! Thanks for sharing this with the youtube family!!
Does anyone know the name of the first song? All lovely but it’s my favorite. Such a beautiful garden! I wish I had the energy to plant and maintain that much!
This is a spectacular garden and Jim we so much appreciate that you and the owners have shared it with all of us. We only wish that some of the plants would have been identified---maybe the favorite plants of the owners, or the rarest plants. We live in the Upper Midwest, so we struggle identifying many of the plants that we are unable to grow in our colder climate. Thank you!
Wow! What a delightful education! Any chance you can share what the pink & chartreuse plant is at 4:40 and the blueish spikey evergreen at 22:58? Thanks so much!
@@silverbackag9790 From what I've seen, the flamethrowers seem to be inconsistent in their growth habit. I've seen ones that are more upright like Rising sun, and I've also seen plenty that are more pendulous, growing out and down.
Are some of the plants fairly new??? I find it hard to believe that farfugium will survive in the open sun like that. Here in GA they cannot. And agaves in the ground . The Pinkham’s garden changes with the seasons, definitely worth a return visit. The bird song background is amazing!
Birds singing in the background is the best nature song.
Love the nature sounds in the video. The music is not necessary.

Just wondering what tree that is at 10:51? It's beautiful! Amazing gardens!
It's a clumping bamboo, probably Fargesia rufa
Awesome
Love it! But how is that tall palm growing in Virginia?
How did you keep your tetrapanix from dying back to the ground in winter. So tall and nice

What was the plant that had leaves like an arum. and fire engine red spike of flowers?
Is this place open to the public year round or on a rotation that people can see To plan?
Is that a redbud at the beginning of the tour (after the initial discussion)?
Looks like a flamethrower red bud
