    I watched Andre wrestle in Cincinnati Ohio in 1981. He was still healthy and in good shape. What fans saw in his later years after his disease ravaged his body was a man who could barely walk. What I saw in '81 was frightening. Seeing a man that large move around the ring with the speed of a 200 lbs. man sticks with me to this day. Thankfully, for his fellow wrestlers for sure, Andre truly was, a gentle giant.

      The fact that he didn't bite back when being bullied showed he was big AND STRONG. It's not weak to refrain from violence and it wasn't strength that the people picking on him showed. If they had any inkling that Andre would've even flicked their foreheads, they would've ran tails tucked. They knew Andre wouldn't risk getting in trouble for standing up for himself. I'm not a giant, but I'm thick and very strong for a woman. Anybody that knows me, knows about my weird strength. My people just tend to have sort of super human strength. My dad stopped a station wagon from driving away from him by picking up the rear end and keepig the wheels off the ground. Anyway, I have had that experience of being bullied by idiots and having to refrain from retaliating. Because I know if I let myself snap, it'll do terrible damage and bullies aren't worth catching charges or jail time for. It is difficult to exhibit self control in those circumstances but it's not weakness. The times that I have come the closest to snapping, was when somebody was bullying my kids.

    Andre was a friend of my father in law, and would visit his family when in the area. My husband has fond memories of sitting on his huge knee as a child while the grownups played cards. He describes Andre the Giant as the nicest, gentlest, most social person ever, and looked up to him in much more than just a physical way. :-)
    Rest in peace.

    Andre also developed diabetes, due to a tumor. He was hired to play a Bigfoot Creature in a Grade B movie, "The Capture of Bigfoot," made by a small Wisconsin studio. They'd had a shaggy costume made to fit him, not an easy job, and everybody on the shoot enjoyed his company, but he wasn't careful about his diet and overdid it with food and drink dangerous to diabetics and was hospitalized. Everyone involved was greatly worried about him and when he couldn't continue, they had to go on without him. The writer/director spoke of him often and was a great fan of TPB, along with the rest of us. That movie wouldn't have been nearly as good without Fezzik. Repose en paix, notre ami.

    • @oldenweery7510
      @oldenweery7510 6 лет назад +1

      Was that the one where the Bigfoot's arm was torn off, so he tucked it under his other arm and hot-footed it out of there? I wonder if that's on RUclips, 'cuz I'd like to see it again, knowing it was Andre. I've always wondered if "The Capture of Bigfoot" would've been a better movie if Andre had played the creature. His size probably would've looked looked much more impressive than the substitute. I've always thought Andre and Mandy Patinkin stole "The Princess Bride"---though Cary Elwes was no slouch in the sword-fighting scene.

    • @oldenweery7510
      @oldenweery7510 6 лет назад +2

      *P.S.* Yes, Andre's fans can find clips, and even the full episode, of that on RUclips---and I just realized one of the reasons why the "The *Six-Dollar Man,"* as one of the kids called it, was so hokey: everything that moved through the air, from a ball of wadded up paper to a Sasquatch, whistled like falling ordnance. (But we watched it anyway, didn't we?) And I think I'm right, Andre's size would've made Bigfoot a lot more impressive.
