  • After driving my car for 3 months my car is full of stone chips and rock chips. This is due to not having any PPF (Paint Protection Film) or Clear Bra on installed on my Porsche Boxster Spyder. So I finally decided to install XPEL Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film.
    This video covers behind the scenes and the whole process. Also an honest review a month after installation.

    Some PPF will stain overtime, especially on white cars. Can only be clean by using stain cleaner like 3m sharpshooter

    • @ThomasYap
      @ThomasYap  3 года назад

      Yeah. Maintaining the PPF is as important as installing them. Hence a ceramic coating on top helps protects it from dirt etching on it too.

    Might I suggest spraying a UV-resistant hard coat for the headlights. Reason being, there is a UV-resistant coating on the headlights, and sanding may remove this coating, thus increasing the likelihood of sun damage of the headlights. On a side note, I have XPEL Ultimate Plus on my GT3 RS and can attest to the strength of the film given that I use my car regularly on track.

    • @ThomasYap
      @ThomasYap  3 года назад

      Ahh. That makes sense about the headlamps. Xpel’s fusion plus was applied on the Film. It does have some UV protection too, not sure that’s enough. Will probably do more research on how to protect my headlamps.
      And thanks for sharing! I do hear lots of good stuff about Xpel. :)
      Just watched your videos on track. Love it!

      @@ThomasYap Thanks. Remember that any PPF is still porous. The big benefit of having a UV-resistant hard (clear) coat layer, is that when it deteriorates or gets damaged, you can sand it off and reapply repeatedly, essentially becoming a sacrificial layer. It will also naturally fill in any tiny pits just like any other clear coat, making the headlight look pristine and crystal clear (especially with a proper polish). Any PPF you put on it will then be for additional impact protection.

    Thanks for such an elaborate walk-through and explanation of the entire process of applying PPF on your beautiful car, Thomas! I'm very impressed with XPEL after watching your video. I'm also a bit obsessive when it comes to keeping my car looking new and pristine all the time. :) I'm not from the Klang Valley, so EXPEL is out of reach for now.
    Would you recommend other brands like Magnus Pro (with Ceramic Pro) as an equivalent replacement to XPEL?

    • @ThomasYap
      @ThomasYap  3 года назад +1

      Hey Kenneth. Glad you found the video useful! They have outlets outside of Klang Valley too. Drop them a PM to find out.
      facebook.com/winshieldmalaysia/
      I haven’t used Magnus Pro so I can’t say much. From others, it’s either a hit or miss. Some very satisfied, some said it was peeling, discolouring etc. But I’d pick Xpel based on the feedback I’ve received about it not discolouring - which is very common when it comes to PPF.
      And they are also the choice of major manufacturers too.

    Great video! Does the precut PPF wrap around the rocker panel, or just the face? I'm looking at my 2016 Cayman, and most of the chips are within the wheel well area and on the underside of the rocker panel. Looks sandblasted!

    • @ThomasYap
      @ThomasYap  2 года назад

      Yeah those areas are very prone to stone chips. Yes it’s covers below the rocker panel too! :)

    • @Cookie_boi316
      @Cookie_boi316 2 года назад

      Let me just clarify something about ppf. It can only protect against very small stone chips. I had Xpel ppf installed on my cayman a little over a year ago, and I realized that they claim to protect against stone chips and this is not the full story. They do protect but only against small chips. I drove around 170kmh and got a tear through the Xpel ppf and 3m wrap underneath. I have to now reinstall a new layer of wrap and ppf. So just a disclaimer so that people don't overexpect the ppf to perform like I did.
