    Love that the Dogfish actually has a personality and its design is based off of sea monsters on old maps.

      In the beginning I wished there’s a chance we would see the mask removed. But after a while I was fine with them and yes they were great designs.

    Spazzatura looks creepy in one of the pages

      I did get that vibe in the film.I think it's tough to do character design, be too definitive one way and they look one way so they are typecasted or do it as such so that audience misjudges the character or tone the design down to be more multi-faceted.

      @@curiouscat222 another thing I've noticed with Spazzutura is that his left eye appears to be damaged maybe referencing the cat from the original story who pretended to be blind

    I do wonder if in the original script that had Mangiafuoco as the main antagonist if the fox and Cat from the original we're going to be his pets similar to what we got with Spazzutura in the final product

    2:04 oh yes Mangiafuoco was the name of this character and he was originally going to be the main antagonist of the film and Ron Perlman was originally set to voice him But after the model was made Del Toro decided that he wasn't happy with it and so he reworked the character into Count Volpe and this puppet would be reused as a random carnival worker at Volpe's circus and Ron Perlman was reworked to voice the fascist government official

      @williampulfer-melville8536 Год назад +2

      @@curiouscat222 well I do like how it's a much more grounded and realistic take on Pinocchio as well as been a much darker take on the story which the original story was pretty dark but all the other adaptions being tone down so it's nice to see one that doesn't tone down anything

    • @curiouscat222
      @curiouscat222  Год назад +3

      @@williampulfer-melville8536 I can see that. I really enjoyed a lot of the motivations and beats of the characters. Totally agree with you on not toning down. The recent live action one felt rushed and beats missing. Also I always felt a lot of del toro films felt constrained in budgets like there’s a bigger back story not shown to the audience or his shows got compressed down to a certain timing limit. This however felt a bit more complete.
