    Prince: "I was taken out to Los Angeles by my first manager, whose name escapes me"... I can't help but feel that was a personal dig against Owen Husney. Ain't no way he didn't remember his first manager's name!

      It was. If he didn't like you or crossed him in a way that wasn't redeemable, you and your name didn't exist. He was hella salty toward husney until he passed - there's blank spots where husney's pictures were in "The Beautiful Ones" book.

    Human will can be astonishing.
    The will to not just teach yourself 27+ instruments, teach others to play their own instruments, write your own music and lyrics for over 550+ published songs, but what is truly astonishing is the vision to plan your future in this way.

  • @DanFreeman723
    @DanFreeman723 2 года назад +10

    "Let's Work" was a bassline that Andre came up with during one of their jam sessions. Prince had recorded it & decided to learn & use it. That song was the first truly funky thing he did after "Soft & Wet". It helped carry Controversy. I wonder sometimes how the band would have sounded had Andre replaced say Wendy or Lisa. Or Mark. Or even Dez. He was also multi instrumental & wrote alot so he would have been major regardless of position. I think because he was considered Prince's big brother or homie for a time, he couldn't really bow to Prince & become subordinate like that. He had to have his own drive for his own thing. Prince probably saw it before even he did. I think he considered Andre an equal. Out of everybody.

    Thanks for all of the interesting content. No one is all good or all bad. I doubt if being in control of so many people make you very nice all the time. I know, I sound like I'm taking up for Prince but he was just human like all of us.
    No man is perfect, but what I learned from this about him more than anything else is the hard work he put into his work, that's why we are still reading about him to this day.
    He worked for his success and it paid off in a way that will never be forgotten and he will be remembered as one of the best entertainer of our generation.
    He was one of the fortunate ones in life, who knew what he wanted and didn't want to settle. Not an easy task.

Love this channel, thanks for all the work you put into it. Question. The video at the end that Prince did and Andre was offended by was that an MTV Europe or something? Never saw it before watching your version one of this episode, his monologue proves to me that the "Morris Day" character of the Time was really his alter ego (one of them). That was very wrong of Prince to 1) Diminish his role on stage. Prince's managers were constantly ( along with Prince) to get Dre to pull back on stage. Why? Dre was taller,. Just as good-looking. Dre stage presence and energy got a lot of attention Getting more attention from the ladies.
    It got so bad, that they started darkening the side of the stage where Dre was standing. The fact that Prince didn't look out for him financially was wrong. Very wrong. When you listen to Dirty Mind, you can hear Dre all over that project..

      @@JJDPROMEDIAPRODUCTION You mentioned Party Up, well that was the song that Morris used to get his recording contract with Prince, so that's not even up for discussion. Prince gave credit for songs to people who didn't even contribute to them. Have you ever been in a jam session, everyone contributes and no one even knows who came up with what. They have all said they may have contributed to a bassline etc but Prince took it to another level. Interesting that none of these bandmates have ever done anything worth mentioning since Prince. Let's get real we wouldn't even be having this discussion if Prince was alive. Everyone knows Prince wasn't just talented he was a musical genius and even his former bandmates have confirmed that as well. I was going to say stop trying to diminish his legacy but his legacy is etched in stone and history so it doesn't even matter. Easy to make claims when the man is dead.

    UGH. Prince was a true pain in the azz---ESPECIALLY in his 20's.
    Until Prince's death, Andre continued to semi-protect Prince; by downplaying Prince's shady thievery. People are messy and immature, in their 20's. So, imagine giving a narcissist ridiculous superstardom. Trying to "force" Gayle Chapman to kiss him, via "spontaneously" pressuring her during performances (so she can't refuse and look "difficult")? That was so damn egregious. Prince was musically great, but also immature, and spiteful. Particularly, in his 20's and early 30's. Age, Larry Graham and the Jehovah's Witness conversion tempered him. But....he still had some of "Prince" in him.
    As an Educator ( and pre-1980 Gen-Xer ), I always do DEEEEP dives on any subject, or person. I research the hell out of a subject for days, weeks...years. My deep dive of Prince began in the late 1990's (1996). So, if I were on a jury....I'd give much credence to Mayte, Andre and others who were THERE. IN HIS INNER-CIRCLE. BEFORE Prince's stardom. OR, carried Prince's child, etc. NOT an obsessed fan who purifies Prince....and attacks anyone who DARES call him human🙄 Even in this comment section, "Prince apologists" are behaving like his default PR person.😑
