I appreciate it that you brought up that we should be grateful for the efforts he put in, instead of feeling he's not doing more. In the very beginning of the courtship process, my boyfriend was definitely putting in a toooon of efforts in order to secure me and to please me, and it indeed feels disappointing that he's not doing that anymore, and I doubt it that he'll ever invest into me on that level ever again, as he feels like he's already got me. I just have to talk myself through it, and I have to understand that I was also performing at the highest in the beginning of the courtship phase, and I just don't perform the way I did anymore, so I should be understanding and supportive to him too.
You are 100% correct. As a marriage counselor as well as personally, I see this happen and the man feels like nothing he does is good enough. As I started dating this man, who is pretty much what I want, I am seeing more and more of his complaining and judgmental side. He likes commenting on everyone and assuming the worst in strangers. That is a reflection of me, and I know there’s part of me that’s cynical, that’s not free and joyful. I feel I need to work on myself and make sure that I myself is full of fun and joy first and foremost, and perhaps I can influence him in a positive way.
