I only like so much electronic music. Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, and Telex are my favorites really. Telex was another early electronic group that I think got perhaps overshadowed by Kraftwerk. Perhaps inspired by them. I think they were from Belgium, but they often sang in French. I appreciate a group who has some sort of image or theme to it. I think Daft Punk took Kraftwerk's theme to another level really. Also robotic theme, but one thing that fascinated me about Daft Punk was that they explored at time the idea of robots/ai trying to become human. To replicate human emotion.
The song DAS MODEL in terms of melody is better. But in terms of sound and production especially for the time and also the image they are building up here, DIE ROBOTER is on another level, waaay up there.
Welcome to the band Kraftwerk.. The Godfathers of synthetic sounds in music and creator of Techno! They also influenced almost EVERY important Hip Hop song in the 80s and 90s with their song: "Trans Europe Express" You know the beat.
You say "Computernoises" - not really, actually - they had one analogue sequencer at that time and the rest is played by hand on analogue synthesizers. This was still before digital synths revolutionized the market by becoming cheaper and easier to afford. What Wolfgang is playing there is his self invented- and made electronic drumset. As far as I know the first ever. He took one of the early rhythm machines - the ones that came with some electric organs and sometimes stand alone that have a fixed selection of rhythms they can play (Rock 1, Rock 2, Country, Waltz) and had an idea that was so brilliant it's amazing nobody thought of it before: Those old drum machines pretty much all had some electrical contact for triggering each of the drum sounds inside. Wolfgang put a cable to each of them and would connect one end to one of the metal plates on his table and the other pole would be the two metal drumsticks. When you touched a stick to one of the plates it simply closes the contact and triggers a "dsch!". Voilà - electronic drums invented! :D To this day the band holds the patent (not Wolfgang, who did all the work). They definitely have been ahead of their time in creating more minimalistic music. But to me their main achievement is this: Before Kraftwerk synthesizers were mainly used either in experimental music or by some progressive drug rock bands. Kraftwerk took electronic music and added melodies you can actually hum along, lyrics and 4/4 beats. They invented what they themselves called "Elektro Pop". ^^ It can be argued that if they hadn't existed someone else would have done something like that sooner or later, but they were there at the right time in the right place to write their own chapter of music history and becoming a huge influence for the "second generation" that now had access to machines like the Yamaha DX7. Today you get people who are like you actually more influenced by people from the second electronic music generation, but I can guarantee you: When you ask any of them they'll all tell you how much Kraftwerk meant to them. :) I must know, I listen to them since the Robots - I was seven back then! Star Wars was still fresh - and suddenly singing robots on the radio!!!! :D
Florian is playing a selfmade keyboard that actually handles like a flute. And the vocoder is the same type used for the original Cylon voices on Battlestar Galactica - so this really was what singing robots were supposed to sound like for little me. :D
they created the electric drum or electronic drum the light bright tie was going to be another instrument. they were going to be on stage just playing ties but it never happened. they had to create there own instruments nothing existed even look at their keyboards its all put together and chop shopped
Autobahn is one of his first songs and is 24 minutes long. The 3D album is a remake of his best songs, a modern version and is great. The old Kraftwerk was amazing, in interviews they used the robots of him to talk haha. And Rammstein made a cover of one they most known songs, Das Modell. Das Modell is one of my favorites songs of Rammstein, so, if you want check it out.
Yesss. Thank you for this reaction. This song is as old as me. My father played it, I played it and now my son is playing it. Just timeless inovative music.
why better? its a complete different song. every song by kraftwerk is a masterpiece, pure art. first, electro, trance, techno, hip hop, break dance in music history.
These weird contraptions they are banging on - they basically invented or DIY'd electronic drumkit (primitive forefather), but it's a bit proto-typey, as you can see :D
Imagine, at the time, MOR rock was being replaced by Punk and New Wave. In the midst of this, Kraftwerk was completely different and groundbreaking. They also invented the drum pad. There music is like a breath of spring air.
Craig Ferguson who used to present the Late Late Show on CBS (until 2014 when James Corden took over) is a big Kraftwerk fan. He did several tongue-in-cheek skits on his show where he and his sidekick Josh Thompson (the voice of Geoff Peterson the robot) portrayed Florian and Ralf from the band emulating the German accent and supposed mentality (badly lol). The Jay Leno Fly curated all of these in a single video on YT (v=LNO9Efd_8OM) if you're interested. :)
You did Kraftwerk! I really thank you for reacting to them. I knew them since I was a kid and last year I really, really fall in love with them. It took time but they caught me 🤣 Bono, U2, call the song "NEON Lights" as one of the best songs he ever heard and influenced him.... By the way, I think the songs sound better in German.
I'm a programmer. Whenever I have difficulties solving a hard programming problem, when I go to bed, I put on this album and dream up the solution. It worked several times, and it only woks with this music.
Electric Cafe was my very first CD. I selected it when I bought my first CD player and got one CD free with it. My second CD was Through the Barricades by Spandau Ballet.
Thank you so much! I may have forgotten just how much Kraftwerk really means to me. Another of their killer tracks is "Ruckzuck" ruclips.net/video/VhK3v4EfvYE/видео.html - could we have that next?
You will also want to check out Kraftwerk's performance of "Ruck Zuck", from their concert in Soest, Germany, that was broadcast on a German TV network in 1970. At this time, Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider were college students, that were a part of Germany's Improvisational Jazz music scene. Klaus Dinger did drumwork with them for that concert. Kraftwerk performed live before an audience full of hippies, which is really amazing to see. Listening to this instrumental, the listener starts to realize how far ahead of the game Kraftwerk was musically, even at this early stage of their careers. For information Power plant has become mainly known by pioneering work in the field of electropop (and the Krautrocks). Musions of the power plant influenced numerous music styles such as SynthiesPop, Electro Funk, Detroit Techno and an impressive influence on the beginning of the hip-hop. The New York Times has called the 1997 power plant as a "Beatles of Electronic Dance Music"
I like Kraftwerk. If you want any more EDM/Industrial groups, may I suggest Suicide and Einsturzende Neubauten? Negativeland also has some interesting musical pieces.
