Best advice i have been told over the years being in RX7s. Keep it simple silly. Keep the build oem+.
Best days of owning a RX7 are the days driving it and admiring what you have built.

Character > specs is the single biggest takeaway for the motorcycle world especially. Forget HP numbers and test ride everything you can. When one makes you smile and one makes you bored that’ll tell you more than a spreadsheet :)

Watching the video and hearing the advice you gave almost felt like a recap of all the lessons i went through being a car enthusiasts at a young age. I'm in my late twenties now, and all of the advice in this video is very true. I am also a Toyota/Lexus enthusiasts, but I have grown to appreciate other brands after experiencing their vehicles and it made me want to try out different vehicles. The idea of "character is more important than stats" is such an underrated thing nowadays in the car community.

Huge tip here. Don’t get enamored by low production numbers if you plan on driving your car. You won’t find cheap and available parts for it. Mechanics either won’t know how to work on it or will charge you an extreme premium.
I had a BMW Z4M in Seattle. Got rear ended. Car was in the shop for 3.5 months waiting for parts from Germany. Missed the entire convertible season.

Dude I’ve been at work for 5 hours and watching your videos for the last 3 of those hours. I love learning from such a down to earth guy. I just recently switched from a car that was mainly for getting from point A to point B and got a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off-road and am in love. I don’t even have the permanent license plate and already put at least 24 hours of work on it with various mods for user experience. I’ll have to save for rims, tires, etc etc. I figured I could do the exterior stuff that other people see or do the upgrades that are for me and my experience. I’m so happy I made the right decision. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Reach out to the owners club BEFORE you buy the car. They have great advice! Also find an Indy repairer before you buy - one of the main insights you're looking for from the club. Let the indy inspect the car before you buy. Tell them you’ll be bringing it back for all the work if you buy. See if they’re trustworthy. Build a relationship.

I drive an old VW Passat 1.9 TDI from 2000. Bought it off of my dad, it was our family car for a long time. 300k miles on it.
I'd love something sportier or quicker. But in regards to the character thing:
The car has good torque, is very analog (no electronic fancy bs inside), is fun to drive, has good fuel economy, plenty of space inside and visibility is great. Hell I can load up all my musical gear inside and drive to a gig and still fit 3 other people inside. She's an old lady, but I have rarely felt as good in any other new car I've tried. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Character over stats perfectly describes the Miata in my profile picture. Stock power with mainly suspension, brakes, and tires. It’s so much fun, it just FEELS so good, and it talks back to me as we drive down the road. I wouldn’t swap it for the fastest LS, 2J, B58, 5.0 powered anything. The emotional connection I have with this car is incredible.
I encourage anyone to find that for themselves whether it’s a Pontiac Aztek or something like your MR2.

My WRX still understeers with an aggressive alignment = character. It means to make it dance, I have to turn in early, chop off the gas and wait for it to rotate, play with the weight transfer. I've stiffened the absolute nuts out of it (24mm rear sway bar) and boy. It has character. It rumbles, it rattles, it doesn't have much in the way of creature comforts...and it's a wagon. So I take it to Home Depot and load it up with stuff. I wholeheartedly agree!!

Congrats on Turning 39 and thank you for spitting some wisdom for us. Been following you for such a long time and its crazy how fast time flies by. A lot of what you said should come off as common sense but in the world we live in today maybe its not common anymore sadly. So much can be said about these simple things and view points in life and yet people will still argue about it. Biggest take away - Be a leveled headed but prepared individual. Life is all about how we deal with the situations we are delt with. Our attitude and actions towards them dictate our lives daily. Be vigilante, Be humble above all else be a human.

Also, one tip if you don’t have a climate controlled garage, or park your cars outside is DAMP-RID. I get the ones in a bucket and the ones that hang, they help keep the moisture down and keep away the musty smell/mold etc…worth the $10-$15 per car.

#16 deserves to be higher on the list. Seems like everybody wants to make it into the official Instagram reel by revving and backfiring and doing burnouts. Just don't, guys. Please.
#26 is great too. I went on a canyon cruise and at one of our stops a couple tough looking bikers came over to our group. They needed to fix something that came loose on one of their bikes, and I had my toolbox in the trunk so I let them have their pick of what they needed. Felt like a superhero that day and they were super appreciative when they returned the tools. At cars & coffee meets, it's great asking owners about their cars. The way their faces light up when talking about their passion is a 10/10 experience.

Great video, great advice! Especially about brand loyalty. I grew up die hard GM, Chevy mostly and til I was in my early 20's, you'd not have convinced me to drive a Ford or Dodge let alone anything japanese. Then in 2005, I bought my first Tacoma and realized how wrong I had been. Granted, now I only drive Toyotas and Hondas. There's other brand vehicles I'd like to own at some point, But the ones I have currently, fit my needs and bring me enjoyment. I enjoy your channel and you have nice vehicles and it's great to see you enjoy working on them and modding them.

When modifying your car, less is more.
Need more power? Why build a fully built motor when you could swap in a factory motor that has what you need at oe spec.
    Painting your car?
Why do a custom one off color when there’s 10,000 great colors with a paint code.

In the last point where you talk about not worrying to much about milage since you don't take em with you I like. I enjoy racking up miles on my cars in my opinion a high milage car whether taken care of or a beat up work truck is so much cooler then any low milage car. I also think using and abusing your vehicle honestly makes them last longer. I always see old work vehicles that are just abused by any guy who happens to be in the vehicle that day on the road and just keeping going with high miles, and on the other end of the spectrum I've known so many people who religiously maintain there vehicles having some serious issue pop up or an engine blow or something. I'm a mechanic on big rigs and all the places I've worked have had some 300k-500k kms beat up work truck or van that is redlined and abused all the time and regularly goes way over service intervals and has never had a single issue other then wear items.

The being open minded part is interesting to me. I've always heard and read that Toyota makes nothing but boring, bland cars, with the exception of their few sporty models, which are usually pretty good.
I'd be curious to know if there are fun to drive Corolla's and Camry's out there. I'm not optimistic, but maybe.
On the other hand, Toyota reliablity fans may want to consider that other companies can build reliable cars, it's not a monopoly out there.

Great video! Thank you for sharing your passion and lessons. Your discussion on brand loyalty really resonated with me, as I grew up with American cars and my father had a preference for Nissan hard-body pickups. I was a fan of VW and, in my late teens and early twenties, I loved Cadillacs. However, I switched to Toyota and Lexus, and if I had been loyal, I would have never made the switch. As of today, these two cars from these two brands make sense; perhaps in the future, they won't. Keep up the good work 🎉

A lot of this is stuff I'm trying to emulate at 22. I'm a lifelong car guy, but around age 16-17 I got pretty into the "jerkwad scumbag" side of the Japanese Import community. Now as a married adult with less disposable income (adult bills sure are something), I find myself drawn less towards specced out highway champions and more towards cars I find interesting. The only sports car I'm actually aiming to buy is an AW11 MR2 and those are relatively affordable. I'm also planning on trading my T100 SR5 for a Subaru BRAT since I still want a truck but would like something a little more interesting.

I'm gonna miss it but i can't keep stressing about this car anymore. It's easy to blame YT when our vids flop (I do too) but sometimes it really just comes down to the quality of our content. I took a quick look at your Taco vid and it didn't have any cars in it!
It seems like you have an interesting personality on camera so I would really encourage you to make that vid again. This time around, either have your Tacoma in it with you or at least put some b-roll shots over it so people can visualize what you're talking about.
Study the strategies behind thumbnail/title design and I think your vid could really do well! There's still a ton of opportunity for growth on this platform and I think you could do really well.

Car scene dies when people were more concerned with the dollar sign than characteristics. Car guys used to be so cool. Just going to look at a car went from friendly experiences that you could make friends from to hostile salesmen like experiences where youre more likely to get into an arguement. Every car guy is trying to screw eachother over. Lowballing for someone elses car, beating the crap out if it and then trying to sell it for more. Or just treating it like a stock and never driving it hoping they triple their investment. The car scene is so lame now.

As much as you love your car, God has other plans.
    Enjoy them while you can.

You’re lying bro I’m 24 my girl loves my cars. You don’t gotta be a “car/bike guy” to enjoy cars/bikes. I get plenty of compliments from guys n girls for my cars. As long as you are not a pos you’ll do good at life trust me. And if you are just doing things to impress other people and validations you are lost brother/sister
