As a kid, I thought Jasmine was an adult, no idea she was technically a teen. The things that go over kids' heads... It's even sadder when you learn that back then, no one cared because of the shorter lifespans.
The shorter life spans are the exact reason why she actually was an adult in those times. A girl was considered a grown woman once she began menstruation. I once read that in those times, if you lived to be 40 years old, you were an elderly person.
Also, they worked their bodies so very much harder back then than we do now, so if women waited to have kids, they would have had more complications during pregnancy- just like how today women in their 40's are deemed to have high-risk pregnancies.
Not necessarily saying that it's right, but there are actually legitimate reasons why some things were done the way they were back then. It's not because no one cared about it. Simple fact- the older a woman is, the higher the chance for unhealthy babies, regardless of what era you're living in. It is a luxury to be able to sit here in the relative comfort and safety (and longevity) of modern times and judge the people who came before us without a full understanding of what their lives were truly like. Hindsight is always 20/20.

You can't logically object to the villain being a villain, because that is necessary to the story conflict. There would be no story without Jafar and his villainous plans for the heroes to overcome; it's as simple as that. And no one who doesn't have villainous tendencies themselves would be impressed by Jafar in this scene: the entire film has made it clear that he is the villain and he is ultimately punished for it. That is how story arcs WORK. Anyone who is admiring Jafar is seriously disturbed, and would be disturbed regardless of whether they watched the film. The problem is not with Disney creating good inspirational tales where good wins and villains lose, but with viewers who would already prefer to have villains win. Frollo disturbs me more than Jafar because he’s more realistic. Jafar becomes a sorcerer and then a genie. Doesn’t mean that Jafar wasn’t disturbing but I’m sure there are and have been plenty like frollo.

A lot of 18 year olds REALLY aren’t as mature as they think and older people WILL take advantage of it, so if you’re in a position you can give ‘em a heads up and some warnings about groomers, I say please do get involved-even if it’s only that much.
(Not saying more laws should be put in place or young folks can’t date/experiment at all with older people, I’m just saying it’s going to be ROUGH for those kids who end up learning the hard way why large age gaps with partners in their early-twenties-and-under aren’t so common nowadays. Some people pull off age gaps and are plenty healthy-I know some of those people! I just also hear a lot of sad stories about relationships that turned out predatory, and want everyone to be safe)

But on the same time, these age gap relationships get so much hate on the internet. Constructive advice is one thing, but tearing someone down for the decisions they make is another. @@raina2319 I agree that especially on the internet, strangers are quick to make judgments and draw the worst conclusions: I’m friends with a very sweet couple where a man fell in love with his nurse despite their age gap (29 and 40ish when they met), and I don’t doubt their love at all; it’d be rude of me to get on their case when they’re clearly living nice lives. I’m just saying to look out for those young people who are undeniably still kids, those 18 year olds (like Jasmine) who just graduated highschool and still can’t drink alcohol getting with folks who have full-time jobs and their own homes. The thing is - Jasmine kissed Jafar in order to distract him (even HE was shocked by that). She looked all seducing and alluring, and when he almost turned around to see Aladdin trying to reach the lamp - she did the only thing she could (kissed the hell out of him). Soooo... I don't get all the comments about "villains doing villain things" :)
UPD: I am talking only about the fact of "who kissed who" situation :) he didn't do it. I agree that she could have distracted him in million different ways. Nowadays she would definitely punch him, but back then she used "feminine" power. Yeah, it didn't look pretty. But it certainly distracted EVERYONE in the room :))
