I have the MKII and love them. The only downside is the loss of the treads when your wheeling buddy hits the accelerator while rolling on them....but there are several good videos on how to replace those treads with some bolts and washers. I am not sure about that winch line and rope end....although Yankum Ropes does have a grooved fairlead which would not require the winch widget. Nice video!
They also have the new MAXTRAX LITE now, which sits comfortably between the mini and the MKII price point. Also, where about in FL are you? I'm in the Sarasota area and always looking for people to ride with.
Yeah the Lites are cool. Those are fairly new and came out before this video. It was pretty wild cuz I got a chance to see them before they came out. I'm in the panhandle!
Great like ever... But it's time (or better I hope ) you make a walkaround the wrangler and list what you still have or buy again and what was a waste of money or not buy again and why
Or just use 13/16 sae wrench/ socket, if you don't have a 21mm., if not 7/8 might work? By "flags" on the mounting pins do you mean the key hole flange(slimmer side)?
Yeah man the thing is so easy to put on. Easiest is adjustable wrench if you don't have 21 or any SAE that fits. And yes, the key hole flange. I heard maxtrax call them flags when I went on a trip with them so that's what I referred to them as.
@@BaptismOverland sounds like their trying to have a propriety names for patents and such. If you haven't tried plier wrench, that will change your game, especially self recovery, overlanding, 4x4 etc...
I had two mk2’s with the correct pins. I then added the xtreme pair and the original pins don’t work. I had to spend another $60 for the hybrid setup. 😢
@@BaptismOverland important to note that the xtreme profile is larger than the mk’s. I actually own the same sets as you. Same color also. Thanks for the video.
Yep. Check out the video I did on hitting Moab with Maxtrax guys. They hired me to do a video for them. Learned a LOT about their products and company after hanging out with Paul (who used to oversee Maxtrax operations etc). He's the one that gave me the lowdown on why I needed the hybrid pins lolol
Asia, honestly I have never seen Maxtrax actually work. Both in person and on videos, they seem to take much more work than hooking up a recovery rope or winch. Can you show us them being used in the real world making real recovery?
Yes. Once I get stuck! Lol. I've seen them work in Moab. I don't have it on video but we've used them. That one footage in the sand, we got stuck on purpose and made sure we couldn't move at all and we got out with them
Honestly I wouldn't know but I've seen comparisons with X Bull. For me, MT is the original and have been doing it a long time. I don't have a point of reference to compare as I don't own the others but I think there's a reason MT gets copied all the time lol
You should see the recent video where I brought up gate keeping. I hate it as much as you do. BELIEVE ME. I'm prepared at all times. If you watch the video on recovery I did after this one, I have a plan of action from least dangerous to most dangerous. First recovery board, then snatch if that doesn't work then winch as last resort. That's not at all gatekeeping. Would you bust out a riding lawn mower for a patch of grass that's only 6x6'? 😂 Obv not. Boards will get you out of a lot of situations before you go to more invasive tactics. Doesn't mean a winch isn't needed.
@@BaptismOverland And I bet you drive around with your rooftop tent everyday lol c'mon bro Don't get it twisted though man, I love your channel I learned a lot
@@cruzinthruspace taking an RTT off and on is a way diff experience than boards. Lolol. @@cruzinthruspace that being said...I've kept my recovery gear on a lot during the summer because I live by the beach. People get stuck and I'll sometimes drive up and down and offer to free them much less than calling a tow truck. Easy money and helped pay for my gear
I genuinely understand the “buy once, cry once” ethos…….but after turning a bone stock truck into my dream overlander, and have bought once and cried after each purchase…..I’d be 180k in debt!!! I spent the big bucks on the important stuff and funded bezos on the rest.
Its all a marketing gimmick. Make them at home. Get some 2 x 4 boards, drive several boxes of nails thru them. Make sure to keep a spare tire handy, or some fix a flat.
Most helpful/insightful vid. Thank you!
I would definitely rock that set up
Have definitely been considering that new winch cable. I'll be curious what you think of the setup after some testing of it.
You know I got you bro!!
I like the Yankum Ropes groove fairlead.
It protects from scraping the rope loop, too!
I've been researching them since you guys brought it up and I have to say I like it a lot!
@@BaptismOverland ... and it's also one less thing that could get lost!
As an Aussie, I love to see our Australian products on your vehicles in the US, Maxtrax, Lightforce, ARB 🦘🦘👍👍
Nice winch cable. Would definitively use that winch rope and set-up. Nice video once more
Asia.
I definitely drive to the mall with my MKIIs on my camper… I’ve also never needed to use them except for leveling my truck at camp 🙃
But at least you're ready!

I would definitely use that rope!! Anything lighter for my rig is a plus! Now I just need to find someone to make a winch mount for my Honda Pilot😆
Hahaha go to your nearest metal fabricator and have them make you one to your specs!
