This ALSO needs the appereance of some good old classics such as the Gothic Knights and their cavalry, please research on their 15th-16th Century armor.
Unfortunately I think the game devs went with the common design philosophy for RTS games that sees disproportionate scaling as a necessary evil. Otherwise the game loses much of the strategy, quick pace, and readability needed to make it fun. It's one of many ways realism was sacrifice. But if you think of AoE more like chess than a realistic battle simulator, it's not too big a pill to swallow.
Sad to see the unique unit won't the Teutonic Knight, but then again I think the Landsknect would be the more universally available German unit during the time period
Actually no, as Landsknechte only were a thing during the Renaissance, i.e. in the very epoch of AoE. Considering their existance from the 12th to the 15th century, Teutonic Knights might actually be the most universal German unit. Or maybe the "Ministerialis" or "Reichsritter" (Imperial Knight) would fit even better.
Game looks amazing so far but are you guys going to address the projectile physics which are a bit all over the place. I think this is quite a big thing especially in larger battles. Thanks
Look, Landsknecht is very hard to pronounce, additionally they mostly fought with pikes and guns, right? So why give them the Zweihänder here? It was used, but it wasn't the rank and file weapon by far. All in all ... why don't we have the Deutschritter as we had in AoE2? :( Except ... maybe the Teutonic Order will come as an additional faction somewhere in the future? That'll be great :D
When you have the HRE, you need to merge it with the Teutonic Order as the Teutonic Order does not offer the timeline all the civs in AoE 4 are seemingly supposed to offer. And I am actually shocked that the HRE has zero reference to the Teutonic Order. I am afraid this is a chance wasted as the Teutonic Order will most likely not become a stand alone civ. It would make no sense. I think the HRE is in a terrible spot and is the most lackluster and boring civ although there is so much potential. Their unique units feel and work like they were just thrown into the game due to a lack of esprit and idea. There is nothing the HRE can do that other civs don't do better aside from defensive structures and men at arms. I think it's a very poor design for this civ and I hope for a big revamp at release, but that seems unlikely. There is almost no reason to play the HRE. Why would you? They feel so generic and lame.

@@IorekMetal Yes like I said colour is position based, player 2 is always red, player 1 always blue etc. Past age of empire games each player can select the colour they prefer. You cannot select it age of empires 4.
Can anyone tell me if I'm correct or not? I'm curious as to why Landsknechts were chosen to be the Roman's unique unit. Weren't they initially a German concept and created by the Germans, not the Roman's? The word Landsknecht is German itself. Is there a piece of history I am missing?
it would be much better if they add bunch of unique combat animations, so that all units dont look like clones but have some varying behaviour while engaged in combat only cosmetic
The real problem with AOE4 is that units are so small that all of them look too similar unless you use lens. In AOE2 you can clearly identify any unit just with a brief look, it makes civs feel different between each other.
Im glad RTS games are still being made. Even though im bad at them, they're still really fun to play.

Otherwise the game loses much of the strategy, quick pace, and readability needed to make it fun. It's one of many ways realism was sacrifice. But if you think of AoE more like chess than a realistic battle simulator, it's not too big a pill to swallow.
Still sad about no Teutonic Knight but the focus on relics is nice
As a German its so cute when he said "Lanschkneschd"
Sad to see the unique unit won't the Teutonic Knight, but then again I think the Landsknect would be the more universally available German unit during the time period
Actually no, as Landsknechte only were a thing during the Renaissance, i.e. in the very epoch of AoE.
Considering their existance from the 12th to the 15th century, Teutonic Knights might actually be the most universal German unit. Or maybe the "Ministerialis" or "Reichsritter" (Imperial Knight) would fit even better.
I have to say I loved playing this civ almost as much as I did the Chinese
I'm having so much fun with this faction!
Game looks amazing so far but are you guys going to address the projectile physics which are a bit all over the place. I think this is quite a big thing especially in larger battles.
Thanks
Nothing can beat AoE2
Come on, Holy Roman Empire! Come on if you think you can take us on!
For the grace for the might of our lord. For the land of the holy!
The legend of Fatslop will continue with HRE instead of Viking now.
Look, Landsknecht is very hard to pronounce, additionally they mostly fought with pikes and guns, right? So why give them the Zweihänder here? It was used, but it wasn't the rank and file weapon by far. All in all ... why don't we have the Deutschritter as we had in AoE2? :(
Except ... maybe the Teutonic Order will come as an additional faction somewhere in the future?
The landsknecht reminds me of Slavic champions in aoe2 with their area damage
AoE 3 has them. But 4's is more akin to the Doppelsoldner, another Germán unit.
No Teutonic Knight unit in HRE... 😕
@@FeriandyRaynandoSembiring Because the Teutonic knights were not active in the HRE...
@@louistostmann2049 they had chapter houses in Imperial land.
@@mickethegoblin7167 In the Eastern provinces certainly, but the teutonic knights had their own state and should therefor not be part of the HRE.
Best civ
More videos like this please!
I have a feeling this game will stand the test of time
Sounds like my go to civ to play
Is it me or the weapons size has been reduced?
That is correct
1:16 *Landzhknesht* 😂
So I’ve seen only 4 civilizations up until now. China and 3 European ones. Are there gonna be more? And will there be more variety?
The Nation Calls
wasn't there a roman scene in the trailer??! WHERE R THEY
Even though the stress test made me hate your town center noise(I know they are changing it). It really hyped me up to play this game! I can't wait till it releases!
IT's amazing 🌟
The gameplay looks interesting but the UI man. It looks like development placeholder assets. Are they going to sell themed UI as skins or something?
Looks like landscherhebhde unit has some sort of charge ability. Look at the 1st attack when arrival on a foe.
Damn kinda wished marching drills was named goose step but it's probably anachronotisc or something haha.
HRE in AoE4 = Teutons in AoE2 + Germans in AoE3 + original perks
PLEASE GUYS! MAKE THE VIKING AND THE JAPANESE CIVS AS WELL? MATCHES PERFECTLY TO THIS GAME, EVEN FOR THE HISTORY CIVS INTERACTIONS
The first thing that comes to my mind is: yup, the opponent will go for archer/siege spam.
They still have lancer and rider or whatever the names.
@@IorekMetal yes, but not their strength. I am curious to see how they respond to civs like mongols or abbasids with highly mobile archer and anti cav units.
@@nvmtt I think that all unit stats are the same if not unique unit. So, their lancers and riders will be the same as english, mongols and so on. Maybe they lack some upgrades at the forge but we cannot know at this moment.
The problem against mongols and abbasids should be more or less the same for all civs.
Is there a map editor on the Xbox version???
The Teutons from age of empires 2?
Yep
Teutons aren't the HRE
@@lorrdy7640 The Teutons in AOE2 represent medieval Germany, so yes, they are the HRE.
I thought there would be a badass prologue for them.
hyped asf but the lack of units on the artillery is weird...
Blizzard watch and learn how you should make a RTS (Warcraft 3 Reforged) game!
LANDSKNEKT! :)
This is The Teutons in Age of Empires 2
shows scene
of HRE charging enemy
in the center all the 'lanchGnechkte'
jumpcut to all of em dead and down in the dirt.
xD
oof
The beta made me hungry for this game, I'm looking forward to it
I like the charge with lance, then switch to sword. HRE is interesting, more than the other civs... but where's the Celts guys?
Super excited for this game!! Less than a month to go!
Let us pick other colours not just blue
Definitely!
You can pick other colours.
@@IorekMetal Not in the beta colour is assigned to position, meaning if you host games you'll always be blue.
@@Masher8559 I saw games with the 8 colors.
Is there a piece of history I am missing?
it would be much better if they add bunch of unique combat animations, so that all units dont look like clones but have some varying behaviour while engaged in combat
only cosmetic
The real problem with AOE4 is that units are so small that all of them look too similar unless you use lens. In AOE2 you can clearly identify any unit just with a brief look, it makes civs feel different between each other.
I thought they dont make anymore games for PSP
Please bring it to XBOX One and Series X! I know the controls would be tough to navigate, but you'd have a loyal fanbase!
For sigmar, for the heldenhammer!
Ich hoffe die anderen Völker werden auch noch ausführlich vorgestellt
I wish this game had blood. Age 2 did
So glad to be Age Of Empires fan then be fornite fan
So, how many civs now, 3?
8 at release (English, French, Rus, HRE, Mongolia, China, Sassanids, Delhi Sultanat)
