I think it's a little ironic that they're a defensive faction, considering that in the middle ages the English lost most of their defensive wars, but won most of their invasions.
The English had a tendency to let their guard down once a place was conquered. They lost a lot of their French territory as you mentioned when forced to defend it; because chances are the good commanders and troops would be elsewhere. A lot of this was due to the English kings taking the treaties they had signed with the French as gospel, and the French regarding them as more a suggestion than anything else. But you gotta do what you gotta do after all.

at 1:20 you can hear "Case in Point: Paste" from the conquerors soundtrack, i love all the little details that went into the OST of this game. you can also hear in the game other songs from AOE2 and AOE3

(i still hope for a AoM2 cause it would give the opportunity to not only look up to date but also feel up to date.
I really hope so, AoM has the most satisfying unit death animation, no explosion, no corpse disappearing. I like marching through a field full of enemies decayed remains to feel the intense battle.
@@klavicus2276 they released stuff each year, they need to have several different teams to do that. So it is quite likely we see '22 something, because they secretly worked on AoM in the background. Or they just use it for more AoE4 expansions. When other games have 10 civs, AoM should too

There seem to be a few historical inconsistencies with the game design in the flags and civ names (some are generic national names like ‘English’ and ‘Mongols’ while others are specific states like ‘Delhi Sultanate’ and ‘Abbasid Caliphate’) I personally prefer the more broad AOE2 name style (e.g. ‘Indians’, ‘Teutons’, ‘Chinese’) over specific state names

Yeah. Even on difficulty levels below "Hard" the AI wants you to play as though they are fully committed to pulling off a Zerg rush, unless you out-rush them first.

We are still missing the Spanish, who always played a huge role in the history of the European continent. We're also mssing the Japanese, the Koreans and all meso civs. We'll have content for many years :)

Please change your arrows and other projectiles, give them trails like in Age 3 or Stronghold and make them a bit slower, it looks very unnatural right now. Also siege projectiles lack any kind of collision effect as well. Blood (either with a DLC or not) would be appreciated as well, every Age had blood until 4.
Please stop teasing us with these camera angles/zoom levels we can't use during gameplay. Let us use them in gameplay it's our own problem if we want to put ourselves at a disadvantage by using them for the sake of a pretty view. Thanks.

If i remember correctly, it was even more cartoony in early stages. Im happy that they turned it into a more realistic looking game, like the beloved age 2. Still wish more steps into a more real look, but the current one is not that aversive to me and i think i can get used to it.

Defensive in battle . In most of their famous victories they were defending a position , more often than not fortified

I love the cinematic way you line up your armies to battles. As if it isn't a giant blob vs giant blob every time. Still can't wait till release.
Ironically its more like that in early/mid game if you have to deal with an early rush. If the enemy rush fails its a trickle of units to deal with.
giant blob v giant blob would have been more historically accurate, given the lack of finesse of most medieval battles outside of the famous ones.
@0:22 you have to appreciate how the units are dwarfed by the size of walls in this game really gives a great atmosphere to a siege
Yeah , i wish they make other buildings huge as well. A stable is literally size of 2 knights, very immersion breaking.

The abbey heal all the units around it. Could be useful in a choke point, but in most circumstances the other one does seem better.

The game certainly is less APM heavy, so its not unreasonable to assume many a match will be sweeping formations and counter moves to counters.

AOE4 is a mix of AOE2, AOE3 and AOEM.
