Wow
The most important thing to take from Andy's short story is to realize that how we treat others is how we treat ourselves, whether his story is a real reflection of how death works or not. When we impact others, we impact ourselves because everyone is us. We are eyes that make up the same creature. When we make one eye go blind, all of us slowly go blind.
If Andy is right about death then we will have to live through both good and bad lives. But what can make a difference is treating others how we like to be treated. We just have to have faith that by doing good we can make a difference to the whole cycle so that we can make all lives good.

When I read the story I imagined more of a Morgan Freeman talking to me in a pure white world (like in Harry Potter)
I also pictured Morgan Freeman!
Now that you guys mentioned it, I pictured the Catalyst from Mass Effect 3
If you pictured Morgan Freeman, that will be your God. Each of us has a different God and he will be represented how we picture him or her. I's kinda funny because I believed and philosophically pondered this even before Andy Weir's short story was written, and still believe in a version of this....I thought o Morgan Freeman too.
jpjpthedude830 Funny, as I never picture God as Morgan Freeman apart from when I'm reading non-biblical stories/interactions about God.

Usually new ideas involving religion can be easily flawed by evaluating the moral/behavioral implantations after it's learned. This one however seems like a perfect religion. It gives you a great motive to help others and become a better human being.
Yes. If this was implemented before the inception of all other religions the world would have been much different today.
@@obed5oa This was implemented! This is what the Vedas preach, it also says, no matter what you do things will go bad because the material world can't satisfy you fully. People know this! But they still hope maybe if I do something else, this or that everything will be different. That is where the Vedas disagree with this short film, you can't be God no matter how many experiences you have because God was here before the experiences and will continue be here, all experiences are from God, looking at your experiences you can't see God, because God is the one who sees all. You have look into yourself and ask who is reading this comment, I mean who experiences this comment being read! You'll soon see you can't get a hold of this guy if you look outward he's behind you if you look inward he's outside, when you realize there's nothing you can do to understand who you are, what will you do.. The only thing that makes me sad about this story is knowing that I won't always know this story, and that I don't always get to discover this absolutely incredible take on existence.
“Be nice, and have fun” has made the best things happen in my life so far
I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more views by now. I still think it is amazing, and should be seen by everyone!
@while fools talk the wise is quiet Okay, maybe not SHOULD, but I think many people can learn from this. I really think the whole point of you are everyone as a thought could be a better 'religion' than many (if not all) of those that DO exist. But agreed. I wouldn't put it like that nowadays any more. But I was so elated by the whole work, and it came at just the right time for me then, that these were the words that I typed back then, 4 years ago.
@while fools talk the wise is quiet Well, I am glad you edited the reaction from what I got in my mailbox as to be your first reaction, for that was not doing your username any justice to say the least. Using words you don't know the true meaning off is always unwise, after all. But let me react to the now edited post you made:
You think people would get schizophrenic from a 'religion' that tells it's believers that eventually all they do to others they actually do to themselves. That is a sign of having less faith in humans than I do. And that is okay. We may differ in opinions.
And as to the 'it's only fiction' part of your comment... Well, yeah, but isn't every other religion as well???
Anyways, thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I wish you a nice live.

At 27 years old I've gotten blown up by an IED, almost died of Malaria on a table in the desert, Hypovolemic Shock has stopped my heart, I've OD'd, and I was crushed to near death in an accident. I just don't die, but that's besides the point haha... on all five of these occasions where I've Almost died, I've gone to the same place and remember quite a bit of it (I guess I had experienced it enough to maintain the consistencies 😆 I don't recommend)... One of many things I took from it was this thought... among other things. Always the same consistencies as to "where you go" and how to come back.
I'm glad there was a video on the same idea.
Regardless of what one believes, it's definitely an interesting thought
Hello me...
I guess this is you...
Watch this again and again over the years, sharing with anyone who will do it justice… such a beauty thing.
Thank you I see you
Andy Weir really nailed an extending example of the concept of solipsism here
When I imagined the story, I imagined a white nothingness, and I imagined the first person view of the narrator (as it was in the story) I didn't give the "God" a manifestation at all.
I like this but I for some reason I didn't get the goosebump feeling as when I first read the story.
That's probably cause the novelty of the idea has worn off.
To my others me.... thankfully so found this video so you’ll be aware of your existence (my existence) in another different space and time.
Wondering why this version didn't have the 'The universe is - an egg' line. Seems like thats the punchline. On another note - there would be a lot less pain and suffering in this world if people actually believed this.
As is the case with most religions, or with most philosophies for the nonreligious. If people actually DID only what is moral, the world would be so much a better place, wouldn't it?
Because this isn't the original, so what's the point?
THEIR desire is an expression of the Creator’s desire. In order to experience everything, the Creator needs all of these different players in order to explore all possible choices.
Each person carries within them the compass that will direct their journey, and because they are “blindfolded” the seeking can appear clumsy at times, but even that clumsiness serves the timing of events within the context of the whole. Tiny movements, small choices, are amplified through intersection with other movements in the same general direction. To the extent a clear pattern emerges, the alignment with others becomes more coherent, and therefore more powerful. Each individual is NATURALLY drawn to what is “theirs” - in the perfect way and at the perfect time in keeping with the whole - and the wonder of it is that they experience this as a discovery, similar to putting your hand in your pocket for your keys and drawing out a large amount of money instead.
Each person carries within them everything needed to get to where they are going, and for all of the steps along the way. The “new song” was written before the world was formed.
The video merely sounds the note you are waiting to hear and you begin humming in response because it is inherently YOUR note also.
You must understand that no one can change what they came to be, what they came to do, what they came to experience. Their life is ALREADY written.
I dunno , it depends, if a person is a depressed person they may feel sad they gotta live over and over and over again
while I'm not depressed, this gives me a comfortable feeling that there may be a reason and that even if there is, it doesn't matter because I will live how I will live, I will feel my own emotions, and I will do what I must do for the greater purpose, whatever that is.
Honestly, I hope that if someone is depressed and commits suicide that they have the same comfortability about death that I do right now.
Im here from Kurzgesagt

And he's had to repeat the latest iteration of the speech to me over and over again. It's like I'm an amnesiac.

This is almost freaking me out a bit
well..you are the creator of this video..in a sense.
Herman Manly That is strange, to me. The story states "there is nothingness", and that god looks neither male, nor female, but like a "vague authority figure". I mean no offense, I am just interested in what people visualise when they read stories.
avraks The views and images you already have of things prior to reading a story influence your imagination alot, so conflicting or even opposing images can occur as to what's told in the story
One of the best I've seen. Awesome job.

absolutely amazing idea!
But I am not only all humans but also every other lifeform because I am consciousness
Basically that was the flaw that was obvious to me from the story, especially if we take evolution into consideration.
the story also says that there are other gods, perhaps there is a God for Fish, Plants, Bacteria, etc.
Ol Saint Lit Yeah, but the other gods are not "from around here".
It does assume a human-centric model, since it's difficult to distinguish life on an atomic or smaller level. However, that doesn't mean we can't take knowledge from this.
we are energy, not consciousness.....
and "god" didn't specify humans.... he said you must experience EVERY life thru out the entirety of time.....
including, i presume, every dinosaur, bacteria, plant, etc. 🌎
humans can only present things from a human perspective....
that must always be understood and considered whenever truth is being presented.
Thank you for this video, Found it today!
Always love this story . makes me wonder and think.
When I first came up with this idea, many years ago, I envisaged it as a needle, pulling a thread through all the times and places in the Universe where lives have been lived.
The first I knew of this short story was when I watched a video yesterday about the concept that there is only *one* electron in the Universe, and someone mentioned this in the comments. Well, I say the *first*, but, if it's true, I may have known about it centuries or millennia "ago" in my subjective time, and just forgotten about it...
I m here after Kurzgesagt's video.

Thank you Mr Weir for such lovely, and thought provoking short film. Growing up in a God believing world with a constant questioning mind to which some questions that I find religion can not satisfy. Now after seeing this clip not that I would say I found my answers but it definitely has broaden my views in many aspects of life.
People need to make up their minds in regards to answering to themselves the question of whether the apples on the same tree are same apples or not. So when we grown out of this rock (earth) are we the same?
If anyone find this story interesting or even mind boggling, look up Alan Watts on Out of Your Mind Lecture series.
Of all of the different adaptations of 'The Egg' this short film seems to be the best (just my opinion). Thanks..
Totally awesome! Mind blown!

Excellent work. I loved every bit.
this is cool.. I could picture it as a lucid dream having conversations with your dream guides! i love this story
It's not just humans.. It's all animals. Plants., life on undiscovered planets across the universe.. Bacteria even..
Random Sheep bacteria isn’t conscious
Well, I can’t contest this... liking it or not, its plausible. The same for some religions based in multiple reincarnations like Buddhism (there you will reincarnate until you reach the level of a Buddha and that’s cool, but also will suffer a lot to reach that level - that’s very bad). It seems this concept was taken from there, like many others…
At least, no matter how hard it seems (rebirthing as a slave somewhere in the past), its still better than the Matrioshka Brain theory… there, a “machine” will never let you out (also very scary, but also plausible…).
Anyway, I consider myself atheist, but maybe agnostic… I can’t believe in “gods”, at least not the ones I’ve heard or read about so far… But I’m curious, I like to search for the truth… Sometimes an afterlife of nothingness can be quite comforting.
This is one of my favorite stories!
This is a terrifying theory because it means that I'll eventually suffer all the most painful deaths experienced by humans
But you'll also experience the most beautiful deaths experienced by humans
Really not looking forward to dying :/ seems a bit much to live every human ever lived. I've seen to many ways humans have died horribly :S.
+DrumtotheBass Woop Yeah, as logical as Andy Weirs philosophy sounds, I'd hate to live a life where I get killed by medieval torture devices, burned for being being a witch, be one of Hitler's experiments during the Holocaust, or sentenced to a lifetime in prison for crimes I didn't do. There's a LOT of suffering out there that I wouldn't want to go through. The good news is the jury is still out on what happens when we die. A cyclic universe could mean that we repeat our same lives, who's to say that time can't go backwards and we live our life in reverse, and we could be living in some sort of simulation.(Matrix, brain in a vat, dream, movie, imagination of higher life form, or even a petri dish in a lab that exists in a higher dimension)
+asdf4 Now when you put it like that. Dying doesn't seem to be so scary. I too have ideas that we repeat our lives until we a reach a better outcome or not. But to live as every single human, just sounds odd :\.
+asdf4 Also to add why are we only restricted to reincarnation as another human and why not other races of beings in this universe?
who said we haven't before or yet 😊
+DrumtotheBass Woop - do not worry, we will all die successfully.
( - _ ^ ) I think someone said that before me.

it means you should touch up on your grammar.
Bowie Widipermoko WE are John cena

I'm really surprised I haven't come across this version sooner. Really is interesting seeing the Andy Weir story in this form after watching the one by Kurzgesagt. Really great.
In the video it said that you will have to experience all humans in earth. So does that mean that this might be just a simulation. Maybe the *god* are the humans in the future. Maybe it is just an expiriment by future humans and the others are just other scientists. Just like that rick and morty episode the battery worlds. Maybe we develop technology in the future where we can build our own worlds. Idk just saw this video in that way (from the other video)

You won't automatically meet God when you die, he's not part of our order anymore, but you can find him for questioning if you know how. To avoid upset I think it's best to keep your expectations low. Our religions come with stories that are not entirely true.
I'm glad you know about the After-Life, you should go on Ellen telling her how we all had the after life all wrong.
Heheh. I've learned things aren't so simple when other strangers have got their own stories and agenders that conflict with mine. For example David Icke, used hallucinatory drugs to attain psychic visions but all those drugs did was make him paranoid. I advise people not to use drugs for psychic development, but they think i'm spoiling their fun, so they get upset with me. I thought the truth mattered to this world, but it doesn't. People seem to enjoy going round in circles and thinking in a limited way, so who am I to stop them?
@@themisanthropechannel1449 how have you learned the truth, then? Since you're so wise

The impersonalist only see the material energy and say the following - "In the Bhagavad Gita it states that in the material universe the living entity rides on the material energy like it is a machine, the vessels made of material energy is that machine and in some planets or even universes there is only 'one' living entity moving back and forwards through past, present and future experiencing all the various bodily vessels that takes trillions of years to do, one therefore has been in the material universe for a very very long time, there is no 'we' only 'I' because 'you' are everyone, within every material bodily vessel that is. It is the material world that is 'all one' only ONE living entity - YOU. The personalist or devotees of Krishna know more because they understand they are NOT the material energy which IS all 'ONE' but an INDIVIDUAL jiva soul, the movie above has a point
But how shall I continue I know I just am and have to BE and all is right and wrong. I say my success succeeds when you succeed but i dont want to be wrong. How do I abolish greed? How? How do I save my brothers and sisters? Helps me to help others but in doing so it continues to keep me bellow them.... Im my enemy and my only protector. All that comes to me is BE.......Now Im thinking of the verse " Be still and know that I am God "... "I AM" .. Be-Ing _Hu_Man...... I am being you man I am human-being i am humanizing
The sound is a bit jumpy, it's peaking in certain places and lacking in others, but asides from that this was really good! The location was gorgeous and the actors were on point, very well suited for their roles. Good job!
