Can't Take My Eyes Off You by Franki Valli/arr. Steven Alesso and Alex Taylor

- “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” has been a song that has somehow managed to follow me all throughout my life. I first heard this song when the movie “Jersey Boys” came out in 2014. In a stripped-down arrangement with a Rhodes piano, electric guitar, bass, and drums, Frankie Valli delivers an emotional performance of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” in a pivotal scene towards the end of the second act. Right when the bridge starts, the massive curtain behind Valli and the band unveils a jazz big band, effectively doubling the rhythm section and adding 15 winds: 5 trumpets, 5 trombones*, and 5 saxophones. 13-year-old me was like, “I need this in my life”. I’m not 100% sure about the exact timeline but eventually, I finished arranging a jazz big band version and then uploaded said arrangement to MuseScore.com. I had deleted that score a few years later out of embarrassment, but someone had reposted it while it was still up on the site. I’ve linked that below if you want to check out that monstrosity, haha!
This new arrangement of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" was inspired by a variety of really awesome sources. This probably began in April of last year when Alex Taylor and I released a cover of the bridge from the Boys Town Gang version on TikTok. To celebrate the one-year anniversary, I approached Alex about doing a full cover, and he was happy to collaborate. We drew inspiration from the arrangements by the original songwriter Bob Gaudio, Boys Town Gang, Lorenzo Bocci, Toshio Mashima, and Seb Skelly. We’ve credited the Boys Town Gang arrangement in the score and in the official credits to pay homage to our TikTok version. The cover art, designed by Kirsten Haddox, captures the essence of the song with a dazzling, monochromatic disco ball that engulfs the silhouettes of each solo instrument used in the arrangement. At its center, the number "1842377" combines the date when our TikTok video was posted (18 April, 2023) with the number of audio tracks in the Ableton session (77). *Split into 3 tenors and 2 basses-the instruments the bass trombonists are using look age appropriate too…except for the modern hand brace on one of the bass trombonists' bell brace!
**I don’t play tuba, so I recorded the tuba parts on euphonium an octave higher than written and pitch shifted them down in post hehe

Haha so sorry about that! One of the woes of writing for larger ensembles 😅 There aren't any French horns but there is a section of 4 baritone horns!

Unfortunately, I only have a license to cover the song :( I think I could get into trouble if I started to sell the score and parts meaning none of the sheet music is for sale but I’d like to change that in the future! Would also like to bundle the XML in case people want to edit or transpose parts
