    As someone with a 15 pc. Dice set (d3, d4, d5, d6, d7, d8, 2d10s, d12, d16, d20, d24, d30, d60, & d100 [the golf ball]), I would appreciate a video on Dungeon Crawl Classics, or at least a video on those other dice types too!

    Fun method for using dice as a timer instead of just using it to count down: use two dice and roll them at the top of each round (or turn, or scene, or what ever time increment you want), if the dice show the same number (you roll doubles) what ever event is supposed to happen, well, happens. This will add a little chaos to the timer so your players will have an idea of how long they have to accomplish their goal but not exactly. This is great for tension building especially when dealing with imprecise, non mechanical timers.
    Here’s three different ways this can work:
    1. Players are pulling off a heist, the rogue is trying to pick the very complex lock on the vault door and needs to pass 3 separate lock picking checks that are increasingly difficult (dc:10, dc:15, and dc:20), and can only attempt one check per round. There’s a pair of guards on patrol and will check the vault room at some point, because they are moving at a semi steady pace they will show up on a roll of doubles on a pair of d10’s. This could mean a fight, this could mean that the players will have to hide, but if the rogue leaves the vault door lock then they will have to start their checks all over again.
    2. The players are trying to rescue as many people as they can from burning to death in a city/town in night time siege by a massive dragon that is sweeping back and forth across the sky reigning down fire from above. In this instance I would roll two sets of dice timers: a d6 set that represents the dragon being over the player characters and using its breath weapon every time doubles are rolled, and a d12 set that once doubles are rolled represents the Dragon being satisfied with itself and the destruction it has caused and flying away, thus ending the encounter.
    3. The players are in a large building or dungeon or even perhaps a sinking ship that is collapsing around them and the players characters have to escape or die. This is where I might use two separate dice counters; the double dice counter and the regular countdown dice counter. The double dice counter being d4’s to represent the player’s immediate environment cracking and falling apart which may require a skill check or ability save to avoid debris or other obstacles hindering movement. Every time doubles are rolled on the dice the dice counter timer ticks down and I would personally use the same die type for both timers so in this instance it’s a d4. That may seem small with death on the line, but that’s kind of the point. You want the tension to be palpable.
    Hopefully this tip has helped some people or inspired you to think about different ways to use the dice that aren’t just damage.

    I love how 13th Age (which uses the 4th Edition D&D rules, but streamlined) uses your class to decide how much damage your character can do. Take for example: a dagger in the hands of a wizard is crap, but in the hands of the rogue is very deadly.

    I'm always taken issue with the damage dice for things being bigger for bigger weapons. A skilled fighter with a knife is more deadly than a random child with a great ax, But too many games are just like the damage die is tied to the weapon and not the skill

    • @DexSaveDan

    • @kid14346
      @kid14346 4 месяца назад +1

      @DexSaveDan
      Short answer Gorilla with a Tommy Gun.
      Long answer:
      Tommy guns are designed for human proportions and if this is a gorilla unfamiliar with the gun they would most likely panic the first time the trigger is pulled due to the sudden loud noise and recoil. That is if the gorilla finger can fit into the trigger space in the first place.
      The gorilla might blind fire and hit a few people with the first round of fire but ultimately it would just resort to breaking the person with a knife in half because GORILLA. So the gorilla woth a Tommy gun wins, but not because of the Tommy Gun

    I'm wierd with my d100. I always add the ones die to the result so 30 and 0 would be 40. I just prefer my roll to actually be 1-100 rather than 0-99

    • @LeFlamel
      @LeFlamel 4 месяца назад +2

      it's supposed to represent 10s place and 1s place together. and because it's a die (d100) we know by default that 0 isn't actually a possibility. So the only number in d100 with 0 in the tens place and 0 in the ones place must be 100.
      Idk, that's just how i process d100. I'm aware that there are a couple games that use the 0 on a d10 as actually 0, but for most it's a 10, because d10 implies 1-10 by definition (dice almost universally start at 1).
