      Thanks for the Video Pete. I just checked my grill and there is a small stone dent in the middle of it. It's ok but I'm going to buy these to protect it.
      One question - once the grills are fitted you are still going to get muck and small debris that gets through the grill. How do you plan to clean this as it looks like it would be pretty fiddly removing the grills each time.
      Also to make you all aware, there is a Porsche Owners club discount code - PC092015 - that will give 20% off. Works for non members too.

    I have used Zunsport Grills on all my Boxsters owned over the years since 2002. I have the same sports front end as you and fitted these grills 4 years ago to my 718 when the car was new. The gaps are certainly very large on this particular Sports front-end configuration and I also saw the potential of large stones or even a brick getting in the left or right radiators with dire consequences. Zunsport is a great company to deal with. I installed the front grills to my previous new 981 and while driving on holiday in the Italian motorway one of the lower grills departed company without me knowing till I stopped. I had obviously not fitted it securely enough. I called Zunsport and asked them if they could send me a new part. To my amazement when I arrived home from my trip the part was waiting for me FOC.
    I clean out my radiators every winter, after most of the leaves have fallen, to clear out the small debris that collects there as most of the debris, I believe, becomes acidic and can rot the radiator cores. A tip to removing and refitting the grills is to use a long-nose pliers suitably protected with insulating tape to protect the mesh. I use the pliers to hold the mesh and help ease the grills out for cleaning access and then fit them back into their correct location. It does make it far easier. Well done to you for not using a pliers to insert them all. Great video as ever. Oh, and happy Boxstering. Cheers.

      Hi Cameron - thanks for the insight into cleaning once fitted. I am just about to buy a set for my Boxster 718 GTS, but was worried about how difficult it would be to remove the grills each time for a proper clean. Sounds like its not to bad if you take the proper precaution. The last thing I want to do is damage the paintwork.

    • @michaeljames6400
      @michaeljames6400 8 месяцев назад

      Just a little tip on install and removal. Try and get an oil seal screwdriver which has hook on the tip. Much easier to hold the centre of grill and pull it out a bit to ease push in or out the end clips.

    Cures a weakness that has been present on all watercooled Porsches since the original 996 and Boxster were launched in the 90s. All the leaves and damp debris that enter the intakes rot out the radiators and the aircon condensers in no time - well worth the effort. 👍👍

    My 992 recently gave me a £982 bill where I was following a friend in his GT4 too close on the road... A stone flicked up went through one of my radiators. When collecting the car from my Porsche centre and saying "I can't believe I was thinking the other day about fitting those ZunSport Grills, that would have stopped this from happening!", their response "We would void your warrantee if you fit those, the car wouldn't be as it left the factory!" ..... What nice people!

Had a stone stuck in the fan but these will prevent a repeat of that. Somewhere on RUclips is a Zunsport video showing how they are handmade welded but things may have been simplified since then.

    Pete.
    It might be worth checking with your local Porsche dealer as there was a recall on 718 Caymen/Boxters about a year ago to have some grills fitted in the side air intakes.
    I have a 718 Caymen GTS and took it to my local Porsche dealership to have the grills fitted. Took about an hour and was obviously a no cost fit. Worth confirming the previous owner got it done. 👍

    Good vid Pete, I have the same ones fitted to my 718 Boxster. Have had no issues with them, good airflow, water temp remains the same, definitely keeps out all debris. Porsche had a recent recall for the side intakes, very discreet 👍

  • @HenrikdeGyor
    @HenrikdeGyor 10 месяцев назад +1

    Sometimes the long vacuum extension will not reach into those intakes. If they do, recommend painters tape around the sharp end of the long vacuum extension to minimize scratching, without sealing the hole of the vacuum of course.
    If vacuums will not reach and fingers are not long enough, try a powered leaf blower close to the intakes. Blow air at all angles into the intake to blow out all debris. I had leaves, small stones, dust, and even cigarette butts caught in the front and side intakes. Until adding my grills, leaf blowing my intakes was happening every month.

    For my GTS 4.0, I went with the RGS grills. I find they look a lot more OEM in my opinion. They are probably more difficult to install than the Zunsport but the look is very nice (similar to the GT4/Spyder look). I got my dealer to install them by removing the bumper so no tie-wraps are showing. I also got the grills for the engine side intakes and decided not to pop out the plastic trim myself… good thing I did because one of the clips actually broke off during the process… the dealer had to replace it free of charge. It cost me more than doing it myself but for the price and the look of these cars, it’s well worth it! Good job with your Zunsport grills!

You needed a plastic trim tool rather than a screwdriver as it is less dangerous on the paint. It is a tremendous improvement but strange Porsche dont fit them. SHMEE had exactly the same problem on his AMG GTR and holed a radiator which cost something like £2000+ to fix…😱 If I had a 718 then the order would be in now! Good work!! 😀😀😀😀Richard

    Hi PP, I would seriously invest in a Compressor, so much better than a Hoover for blowing the dirt and dust out of all the nooks and crannies on your car, also blowing the dirt out of the car mats, blowing your car tyres up is a given, trust me I've had a Compressor for many many years and I can't tell you enough just how great and handy it is. I would never be without it, just remember to wear safety glasses when using it. Compressor's come in extremely handy for DIY work and not just for spraying paint. Compressor's are really not that expensive to purchase, this is not a plug for Amazon, but they have many to choose from, should you choose to invest in one, you won't be disappointedz trust me.
    One last tip from me, next time you refit the plastic guards to you car, soak them in very hot water for a minute or two, to make them more bendy and pliable, and will also form to the correct shape when they cool down on the car making a better fit for next time. 👍🙂👍

    Surely the trim will eventually fret the PFF and paint along the bottom of the grill ? Interesting to see if it rattles as it’s only held on the sides ? Looks good though 👍

    My AMG GLA45 is exactly the same, it’s a lower opening full of leaves and detritus.
    My concern is overheating and longer term damage. I wonder if they do them for mine?

      @@PetrolPed I had a quick look Pete. The A series sporty versions are covered but not the GLA ☹️☹️
      But living a little further south than you near Fareham the A32 is my only road of leaves and suburbia doesn’t have many tree lined avenues any more. Cheap option - hands and knees to dig them out and fingers crossed for no motorway stones into the radiators.

    Fun fact: why do most people call a vacuum cleaner a Hoover ???? Simply because in 1908 Asthmatic American inventor James Spangler sold his idea for an electric broomstick-like cleaner-with a cloth filter and dust-collection bag attached to the long handle-to William Hoover in 1908. His invention proved to be arguably the first genuinely practicable domestic vacuum cleaner.😀😀😀😀
