Great entry, Peter! I have never heard of those Big Shiny Tunes comps until now. Always a great mix of both how these comps came to be, and your personal stories behind them. Will check out Thea's channel. Had fun with my entry for Jack's contest as well. Ah, another Easy Listening comp from Epitaph! 😎🎶
For my graduation after party we had a prize draw and I won a copy of the first Big Shiny Tunes CD! I still look for the others in this series when I go out to thrift stores.
@@ThatAlbumReviewShow I feel like I should have picked up more, but I left Canada in 1999 and only came back for a visit every couple of years. It would be cool to find one in a thrift store.
Hi Peter!!! Cool entry to Jack's contest..... i do remember comps as our "playlists" from back in the day (80's/90's) and a good way to discover new/lesser known bands..... unfortunately i don't have any comp in my collection, maybe i dubbed most of them. Btw that "Big Shiny Tunes" had a cool playlist and some big names. Btw thanks for the links too. cheers and be well
@@cristianosorio2517 Thank you, Cristian! I don’t buy comps these days unless there’s an old single that I can’t get anywhere else. But those Big Shiny Tunes ones were just right for the times.
Hey Peter. Great video and entry into the contest! Those Bug Shiny comps are loaded with so many amazing bands. Great info you provided as well. Cheers
Hi Peter. Those comps you listed here have a lot of good stuff from many alternative Rock bands. Good way to get introduced to lesser bands at the moment.
Hey Peter, thanks for the entry, I just subbed Thea. Oh yes, Big Shiny Tunes, legendary comps. Amazing backstory to the series. That took me back. Your name goes in the hat my friend. Happy holidays to you and yours. Cheers.
Thank you, Jack! I had to get in on this! As I said, it was a great chance to move up my idea for a video about Big Shiny Tunes and I was very glad to have a new channel to shout out!
I love simple contests & threads. Drawing straws out of your head sounds painful. Big Shiny Tunes I'm sure were incredibly eclectic from the sound of your description. It's amazing to me when something can sell those huge numbers & I've never heard of it. I feel like I learn more about Canada from the bloke who lives in Japan than I do from the blokes who live in Canada 😂
@@benrankins4446 Ha ha ha! Your last sentence! I feel especially motivated to talk about Canada since I’m so far removed from it. I don’t even know if I fit in anymore as I’m a relict from 1971-1999. When I say something is gay or retarded, I mean it in a very different way from the current lingo.
I've never been a huge fan of the compilation album. I have a couple (Metal for Muthas 1 and 2 and Killer Watts spring to mind). I used to read Sounds magazine back in the 80s and 90s, and in the CD era they used to give away the odd compilation now and then of mostly newer acts. They're up the loft somewhere - I'll have to dig them out!
These Big Shiny Tunes were really good for me for exactly the reason that is pointed out in the more professional video. I liked a lot of the singles but I didn't think I'd want the whole album. The 1990s was a decade of wandering for me. I left my beloved metal scene and went in search of other styles to enjoy. I heard lots of good songs but had a few experiences of liking only one or two songs on a whole album. With BST I got a bunch of songs I mostly liked. But yes, I normally don't by compilations either. In recent years, there has to be a song by a band I love, and then I'll get the album to complete a studio discography. As I recall, Nick, your metal comps from the eighties have some bands that never went any further.

Be swinging your way shortly.
Big Shiny Tunes! Very cool. I remember these, but I do not own any. Thanks for Big Shiny Video!
@@EmbryonicRobot Thank Jack for forcing me to do it rather than put it off year after year.
