I was recently at a dog park for large dogs. The park is divided into two sections. The section for small dogs was too enclosed so I took my 15 lb. dog to the large dog park. A great way to respond to someone who insists that you are required to address them with their preferred pronoun is to say “ that is not my problem, it is your problem!”
The problem with that is that some of them will do everything in their power to make it your problem, especially if you say something like that to them.
I prefer "actual" pronouns over "preferred" pronouns in the same way I prefer "actual" reality over "preferred" reality. And I welcome and encourage all people to do the same because I'm inclusive.
@Ryan Robinett Yes, "they" is a pronoun, and in modern accepted usage, it's indicates as plural. While "they" was used singularly in the 1300s and as late as the 1800s, the meaning of "they" as singular doesn't align with the meaning ascribed today to indicate "non-binary" gender identification. To assign new meaning to words, both in the modern and historical context by saying "they" was used in a singular sense before, is dishonest at best, and narcissistically manipulative at worst because the meaning to which is "preferred" was subjectively self-designed. While a person can decide to call themselves whatever they'd like, they cannot expect, much less demand that others conform to their redefinition of those words. And, its not one side is talking about sex and biology and the other is talking about sex, biology PLUS social orientation of gender. From what I gather and have observed, the latter group is talking ENTIRELY of social orientation of gender. It's why we have people identifying as cats. To me, declaring preferred pronouns is either virtue signaling or announcing a person's sexual preferences or fetishes. I find it highly offensive that a complete stranger would be so intimate with me, as I really don't care to know most people on such intimate levels. It's intrusive. It's narcissistic and it's presumptuous to think that a complete stranger really cares about another strangers private bedroom habits and fantasies. People who are unable to keep intimate details about themselves private, probably can't keep ANYTHING private and perhaps should not be trusted with intimate details about myself.
@Ryan Robinett ... It's a false issue. We don't address people, directly, with a gendered pronoun. We say "you". The incidents of my coming across anyone, whose sex I'm unsure of is so rare I can't remember any over the past 80 years. "Regular people" are usually pretty easy to identify. In case you were unaware, when the sex of the antecedent is unknown, the convention was always " he" until Marxist feminists began attacking the language and causing ambiguity. I mention "personalization" in the sense that we don't get to invent our own pronouns or our own words without a great deal of literary understanding. Also, no one can compel us to use these invented forms. In fact all of this is very easy without the intentional equivocation of post modern nonsense. English syntax is remarkably well understood not to mention consistent with the linguistic protocols of most modern languages. it was also like that here in what you'd call a developing country. people can't call an insane person "insane" now, we have to address them as "person with mental disorder" (literal translation). not only is that impractical because it's longer, it's just a matter of time before it can be used as a derogatory term just as well as "insane" does. also, what's gonna happen to other words? like we can't say "kids", we should say "people who aren't adult yet"? it's like saying the definition instead of the intended word.
Finally! Someone is addressing this issue at its core! I don’t understand why it took so long. Why didn’t he just lead with this at this idiocy’s inception a few years ago-cuz all I’ve been hearing about is the freedom of speech argument-“can’t force me to say something” etc. approaching it from the grammar angle puts the responsibility of the issue where it belongs-on the idiot demanding preferred pronouns to actually learn correct grammar or get out of my face. It ends the emotional argument that gives the weirdos so much power. Truth is, that’s why they didn’t start with the grammar argument-it also gave the “other side” a lot of attention-which is what they were both wanting in the end. What you are proposing is akin to taking someone to a medical doctor hoping they will perform voodoo on the patient. @John Gender dysphoria is not equivalent to gender identity. The former simply indicates a mismatch between gender identity and displayed/expected gender, while the latter (which I used) I specifically referring to the self-perception itself. Having a particular gender identity is not a mental illness, as one's self-perception of something subjective like gender cannot be 'validated' by an external observer. there actually is a singular use but it is used in a very distant perspective. often times because speaker is not aware of the person other than name or that the person they are speaking of is there. ^just noticed i used a singular they in that sentence, but it follows through with my statement. once the relationship between the speaker and the referenced individual progresses even slightly, he/she is much more personal. at that point using the word they in reference will be either laziness or disrespect.
Oh the irony. Indeed, proper grammAr* matters. And there is very much such a thing as the singular 'they'. An 1881 letter from Emily Dickinson read: 'Almost anyone under the circumstances would have doubted if [the letter] were theirs, or indeed if they were themself.' And then, as per the Oxford Learners Dictionary, 'they' is 'used instead of he or she to refer to a person whose sex is not mentioned or not known'. And the Oxford English Dictionary traces its use in this context back to 1375.
@@mnpa6154 The date of its usage, I didn't know, but the idea of a singular use for tbe term "they" I did know. But yes, even with this, this wasn't used for identifying a person in the personal sense, but the impersonal.
@@thomasecker9405 Not necessarily, because we are still using the same grammar now (unless I am misunderstanding 'personal' and 'impersonal', which is possible). If I am in an amphitheatre, and I can just see the top of the head of the person in front of me, I would refer to THEM as a THEY, simply because I don't know whether 'he' or 'she' is appropriate as I can only see the crown of their head, and I wouldn't refer to a being as an 'it', normally. While I do not have a citation readied for such an example, I am sure they spoke the same way in Dickinson's time, and earlier, given the otherwise identical grammar with respect to that pronoun. Now, the particular case of people who are trans-gender or in-between-gendered, of course this is relatively new for the English language, so I wouldn't expect to see Shakespeare addressing that in the first place.

The whole idea of personalized pronouns is preposterous. It isn't their prerogative to determine how you use our language or to compel your speech.
I agree Pamela. I don't need to know the intimate desires of anyone that I'm not intimate with!
@Ryan Robinett ...
In other words, if a mismatch exists, one of the two is incorrect -- and psychology does not claim the gender identity is the one that is incorrect, which would make the identity itself a mental illness.

Keep the truth coming! Thank you!!
The only pronoun used when speaking to someone directly is " You".
My pronouns are I and me
@@anonymousAJ thanks I hear You
What, so yes sir, no ma'am are things of the past?
@@woodhonky3890 yes seems like it...unless you have a badge with *"call me Ma'm*" or *"call me Sir"*
Absolutely spot on Mr Walsh. I never thought for a minute there would ever be a time where something so simple and basic would have to be explained in a public forum.
It's hard to believe that it takes this much effort to explain a simple fact, but I'm glad somebody is doing it. I commend Matt Walsh for having the patience and stamina to bring this issue to the forefront. Most people don't know what's happening because mainstream media fails to report relevant news objectively and without bias.
That old comment, "Americans are crazy!" has been taken to a whole new level!!!
Thank you Matt Walsh for all your videos, you are amazing and you hit every subject right on. To everyone out there that can hear, I can’t believe we are having this conversation in America, America I repeat and that is sickening to me. Somebody out there is trying to destroy America and our youth. Please wake up America and don’t stand to fear. GOD gave us a spirit of strength and not of fear. May GOD help us all.🙏🏼
I just love Matt Walsh, he NEVER backs down!
😊😊Wow Mr Walsh, you and Candace Owens are on the money. Common sense is a mathematical and scientific sum that replicates every time you challenge the sum. You and Candace always deconstruct the Woke and Racial ideology, bless you both.. Xx
I don't think it's just arrogant, it's thyrannical. They have no right to order me to think and say what they demand.
“My self perception is not a project that the world must fake on.” That’s pretty much all you had to say. Any human being with a brain would understand this statement to be factual. This man is brilliant!
I tend to go with this strategy, avoid pronouns in general, as he said it's not like they come up very often anyway in day to day life. If someone happens to get offended when I DO use an incorrect pronoun (Has never happened to me personally) I'd just stop talking to them, that simple. That person isn't worth the inevitable argument since they've already shown to be irrational.
Thank you! I agree, common sense!
"my self perception is not a project the whole world has to take on" love that!
Where does identity ideology end? Seems like it's pretty open ended... so I can identify as a man on Tuesday a woman on Wednesday and non binary on Thursday. On Friday I can be gender fluid and on the weekend I can identify as a Mermaid. Right?
My brother at university was in a class at the beginning of term and the professor asked everyone to take turns introducing themselves and to please include their pronouns. My brother said his pronounce are Your grace/His excellency.
I'm going to remember that.
Thats precisely right... troll the sh!t out of these people, and make it so unbearable that they cannot fulfill their own rules.
My teacher asked us on our first worksheet for our preferred pronouns and I put "my biological ones." She can check in the grading system whether I am male or female. PS I am a male
I would have said, if they ask me, that mine were: You are an idiot/ An idiot you are. LOL!
Your brother is a genius! And that's a fact, as my preferred pronoun is The Smartest Man Alive!
Walgreens has mandatory Zim Zer - in my town. I know the girls in there. She told me about it. I said where is your manager - I need to tell him my pronouns are F.U. We laughed and laughed. She refuses the zim zer. BTW they are still jib jab poisoning. Sic monsters
My preferred pronouns are Bull/She/It
Thanks for the excellent explanation Matt. 💯 agree 👍
Matt Walsh is amazing and I'm a huge fan! I must say I wish I didn't know who he was. If this transgender and preferred pronoun garbage wasn't forced down our throats I may have never heard of him. As always cheers Matt 🍻
You're a huge fan but wish you didn't know who he was? Because you MAY not have heard of him, a prominent "right wing" uploader for many years before all the identity politics nonsense became mainstream, if not for the mainstream identity politics? How does any of that even make sense?
I sure as hell didn’t know of him before his documentary popped up in my feed, and now I’m a great fan. But since I’m not American I probably wouldn’t have come across him if the world had been a more sane place, so I agree, I would rather not know about Matt and instead live in a world without all this gender bullshit f-ing up our kids …
@@toolma66 yet more nonsense. As if knowing who he is is directly linked to gender ideology, and if you didn't know who he was then all of that would just disappear.
@@mydogeatspuke Are you trying hard to misunderstand me? The reason I know about Matt Walsh is because of the gender bullshit that is the new rage right now. If that wouldn’t have been a thing, he wouldn’t have popped up in my feed and I would therefore not know who he is. Do. You. Understand. Me. Now?
@@toolma66 no, you're the one who's misunderstanding. You're assuming there's no way at all that you would have ever stumbled across someone who presumably shares your views on more than just this one topic for you to be actively engaging with his content. That's just not how reality works.
THANK YOU THANK YOU MATT! It is so reassuring we still have common sense respectable ppl like you BRAVO! for you speaking out you are indeed a wonderful, sensible man and this alone is showing our children how to be brave MUCH APPRECIATED! 👍
This is great, finally hearing what I've thought for a long time.....I never refer to a person in their preferred pronoun if they are in the room with me...so why would it matter what I say when they aren't around to hear it?
Stand up for our English language, and make it great again!
You tell em eh...montreal born
It’s you, Jordan Peterson, and 17 other Canadians that are still left as normal people
@Canadian Girl, I can't tell if you're being serious, or sarcastic. 😆😯. That being irrelevant, all the Canadians that I've met over the last twenty years or so, have been some of the nicest and friendliest people, anywhere. However, I am aware of the predicament that Dr. Peterson found himself in, and I don't mind saying, He is my favorite Canadian of all time!

MEGA. Make English Great Again
They can't grasp the concept that they don't control everyone around them. I don't care what you think you are or what you call yourself. I can disagree and call you whatever I want and refer to you as whatever I want. You don't control me.
God bless Matt Walsh. It is insane that it is necessary to say what he is saying.
100% based. People with mental delusional should be rehabilitated , not glorified.
Absolutely spot on.
"Respect Pronouns"
I do. That's why I use them properly.
Such a relief to hear you say these things !! Thankyou !!
I've said from the beginning of this insanity, I will not allow others to destroy my ability to communicate effectively.
Matt lays good points and facts down smoothly for his (for once) polite and civilized audience.
Brilliant! Why does a basic English lesson sound so refreshing and like this huge burden just lifted off my shoulders. I have been saying already, as a Christian I cannot repeat their lies I cannot affirm their delusions & lies as it goes against my beliefs and lying is a sin. We are bombarded by lies & deception every day. Don’t risk your salvation for anyone.
I take pride in not being proud of pride.
Matt, thank you for all the amazing work you do and I hope it inspires more to stand up to this stupidity.
Perfectly put. There are new even more ridiculous pronouns added to the list every all the time and I’ll be damned if I’m going to ask every single person I speak to on a daily basis what they are. If someone doesn’t like that they can leave the conversation. Pretty simple. I’m sick of hearing about it.
"If someone doesn’t like that, he or she can leave the conversation."
@@alexrubin5955 Actually "they" is the correct use of grammar in that context, since he's referring to people in general, which includes both female and male genders.
@@andersnielsen18 someone = singular. How do I know that? Notice the verb that immediately follows: 'does'. Plural nouns or pronouns are followed by a plural verb like 'do'. Example: Men do not like to lose. They do not (don't) want you to know.
Nicely said, your 'subjective reality' doesn't take precedent over that of other people's, and it certainly doesn't override 'objective reality'
Love the values Matt so bravely stands up for.
Thank God for giving Matt the strength, wisdom, courage and ability to share the truth. To be honest enough to stand up for the rest of us who feel the same way. To use the tool of social media that he has been given to help us all have hope.
👍PROPER GRAMMER MATTERS👍
👉THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A "SINGULAR" VERSION OF "THEY & THEM" 👈THESE TWO PRONOUNS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN CONSIDERED "PLURAL", MEANING MORE THAN ONE...✌😎✌
there actually is a singular use but it is used in a very distant perspective. often times because speaker is not aware of the person other than name or that the person they are speaking of is there.
^just noticed i used a singular they in that sentence, but it follows through with my statement.
once the relationship between the speaker and the referenced individual progresses even slightly, he/she is much more personal. at that point using the word they in reference will be either laziness or disrespect.
@@siekensou77 Exactly...
I identify as an ambulance and my pronouns are wee/woo
Hahahahaha
Thank you!
The "I see myself as handsome and brilliant means you have to perceive me as handsome and brilliant" is spot on as an analogy to the absurdity of demanding other people adopt your perception.
Zhe makes a good point
FINALLY someone other than me has started saying it. Pronouns are used to talk ABOUT someone. You do not get to control how I talk ABOUT you.
