Its funny that as soon as the watch cost a certain amount, then it is not a watch anymore..it is a "timepiece" 😆 i like watches too and i love Patek, but i just find it funny..i guess that it is because they want the watch to sound even more exlusive. Its still a watch...it can be a very complicated watch...a unique watch etc. But at the end of the day, it is still a watch.

One thing that is pretty sad about Patek watches that appreciate in value is that it becomes more and more difficult to justify wearing them (or, in an extreme case, even keeping them at home!) There is the obvious question of security against theft or robbery. But what about if they get damaged or badly scratched? Even just wearing them at all (as opposed to keeping them in absolutely immaculate unworn condition) has implications for price. I've never been let anywhere near a Nautilus by an AD. But I was fortunate enough to get a ref. 5212A at retail. When I was last in my local AD they actually thanked me (yes literally _thanked_ me!) for wearing the watch as my regular everyday timepiece. I thought it was a bit odd, so I checked up on prices: apparently in unworn condition my watch would be worth 50-56 thousand dollars. In worn condition that drops to 46-50 thousand dollars. Of course it's still about 15 thousand dollars more than retail price that I paid. But then again, the higher it goes, the more I feel like I should be putting it in a bank deposit box :-0
