Wait, 600rpm? Mine is idling at 1400 rpm which is what the OEM setting typically is. Also, when it’s in gear the idle should be going up due to the neutral switch. I have a 2019 yz250x also along with a smart carb and I’m confused by your settings
@Dropsix Jesus, you are absolutely right! I had the Tach set to read 2 Pulses/1 Revolution which halved the idle RPM. I must have accidentally reset it last time I reset the oil change interval. I didn't really think about it until you just said that.... What a bonehead move. In reality it's idling right around 1400. Just changed the hour meter settings and tested it, spot on. Sorry man, thank you for catching that!
SourceADV so it should be idling at 1400 or so in neutral and it should be going up a decent amount while in gear due to the idle switch. That would be regular operation.
Awesome review and really gave me some insight how good that combo- yz250x and smart carb is! Might have to copy you lol. Looking forward for future yz250x content
This one had the BRP rubber mounted handlebar clamp with the Scotts sub stabilizer. I run pro taper evo steering dampener low bars. On my new bike I don’t run a steering dampener, I just make sure the suspension is perfectly dialed and run an XCGear Mako360 for vibration absorption and impact absorption for the wrists. Cheers!
Thanks for your videos! I bought a 2022 YZ250X and considering the SC2. It appears from comments you sold yours awhile ago…but looking back did you ever experience any issues with the Smart Carb after making this vid and before you sold it? Also, why’d you decide to move on from the 250X? Thanks again for putting out great content!
No problems once I got it leaned out enough it comes pretty rich from SC which is smart. I have heard of people who’s left the gas on and flooded the engine but I never had any issues. It worked great and ran the same no matter the elevation. I regret selling that bike, but I wanted to do the project with the KTM 500. Cheers
Have the same bike, my next purchase is definitely the smart carb. I bought a Cisco’s racing softer power valve spring and it was a great addition to my apex head.(does similar tuning the the power valve mod but further removes the that awful mid range hit and increases bottom end ) worth a try at only 40$ or so
Nice! Sounds like a good mod. The smart carb smooths the bike out too, so make sure you talk to the team there with all your mods to get the settings right. Take care man!
She already has the GYTR flywheel on it in this video, which I absolutely love! Still snappy but will chug like a tractor when you need it. The SmartCarb guys told me with an RK Tech/Apex head they found the bike a little harder to tune and get into the sweet spot. Are you already running the APEX head? If you end up getting the smart carb and running the head I'd love to hear your thoughts. Cheers!
Your bike sounds awesome.couldnt believe the lugging ability..I ride at tahuya national Forrest you can view the terrain in any you tube video just type tahuya national Forrest dirt bike ride. So I really know about hard pack with loose rock ..it's like riding on marbles over hard wood
Exactly! Being able to use really low RPM is can be great for our stuff for sure when things go sideways and you need to crawl out! 170 miles of trail at Tahuya, sounds pretty awesome! Take care and enjoy the ride man!
Much performance and efficiency is yet to be seen by fixing the loose squish clearance on the stock OEM cylinder head. You can have your stock head machined or purchase a new aftermarket head that is suited for your elevation, fuel preference and riding style ( Enduro vs MX etc. ) I use Apex Technical Innovations head. Great company and affordable too. Best money you can spend on your bike. Mine is a 2019 yz250x
I've heard good things as well Glenn about . The Smart Carb techs told me to stick with the stock head in this application so I followed their advice. Bike feels great performance wise, so I wont be doing anything else in that realm.
@@SourceADV Sorry man , I can't agree with their advice. Not trying to be negative but anyone that says stay with a stock yz250x head does not know the bike . That's bad advice
The exact word from the smart carb team was that the apex or RK tech heads make the metering rod carbs harder to tune and more “finicky”. If you search around on the forums a lot of folks will back that up with their stories. Before I put the Smart Carb on the YZ there was a very noticeable midrange lull that was exacerbated by large elevation changes. I was running a JD Jetting kit in the Stock carb. After going to the smart carb there was a major change in the powerband characteristics. From full chugging to amazing over rev, the bike just ran exponentially better at all rpm ranges and with 7000ft elevation changes.
I noticed at the end of Part 1, you had the stock reeds and spacer installed and then in the begining of this video you had v-force reeds installed without the OEM spacer. SmartCarb recommends leaving the spacer in however they say if you are running a larger rear spring which it appears you have you can consider removal of it. Did you notice any difference, some people state leaving the spacer off removes some of the low end torque. What are you thoughts?
Yeah. I put the spacer back on, it’s a very tiny difference. I am running a larger spring too. I like the more torquey feeling, but it’s not night in day, it’s a couple degrees.
@@SourceADV How much does it rub on the shock spring? Just got mine installed going to ride tomorrow, looks like it definitely has contact because I'm 2 spring rates up from stock.
How have you liked it? I have a Lectron and was going to buy a smart carb because the Lectron just isn’t running like it’s supposed to and there tech can’t seem to help
Sweet. Yeah Smartcarb is great, you might go plus minus a couple of clicks depending on temp, humidity, or elevation but that’s just if you are really picky like me and want pure crisp
Honestly, in really rocky areas like we have here in AZ it’s really nice because you can keep a much looser grip and not get as bad of arm pump without having the bars ripped out of your hands. Check out my latest 500XCF-w build I have the XCgear mako360 with the Scotts stabilizer and it’s like having total hand suspension lol. Cheers!
Have the same bike and love it. I also ride from +/- 5k to 10k and have the stock carb jetted a little lean for the lower altitude and runs pretty well for me. What weight flywheel did you put in and which size accerbis oversize tank did you install and how did fit? Thanks
Nice! Me too, such a great bike. I have the smart carb dialed now and it’s awesome. I went with the the GYTR flywheel because it came with the bike, I think it’s plus 8 ounces. Feels great. The IMS tank is the 3.2. Fits pretty good, it puts a little more stress on the radiator shrouds and I had to use a heat gun to mold them a little bit. The twin petcocks and fuel line routing is a pain to setup but pretty easy once you have it finished. Hit me up at hello@ sourceadv.com and I’ll send you the latest pic of the fuel line routing. Cheers!
Left/counter-clockwise/leaner if you are looking down on it from the top. It comes a little rich from factory. I actually ended up about 8 clicks leaner from the initial setting.
I'm trying to enduro convert my 2007 YZ250, does this help tame the hit from the stock carb? I mainly ride in Texas but I'm not chasing huge elevation changes but more so fuel economy to reliably get 50 miles out of the stock tank while racing.
@@SourceADV I am actually currently running a X CDI on it, considering swapping power valve as well but I have it "close" to a 250X vs. the X I got to try the low end right now is... blubbery in tight single track and the mid to high still has a significant hit. I was told the SC2 has a more broad or linear range than the stock. Was it a significant change on your X?
Several reasons for us.....updated design from the 70's Lectron, cleaner install, choke on correct side, adjustable without removing from bike, stock throttle cable, maybe more. Not sure why you would not get newer and better design unless you really cant afford it. I would rather save up a little more money and get this than have to deal with any other carb.

SourceADV the Drz400e is a great bike but the wr450f suspension must be way better🤔 I’ve been looking at Wr450f and 500exc now for so longe :/ love your 500exc build looks mint
Thanks man! The plan was to have my buddy over at endurospec just redo the DRZ suspension. Motocross action raced a hopped up DRZ in expert motocross with just a revalve and it did just fine so I gotta think it will be plenty fine for adventure riding... but we shall see haha. I’m waiting for the prices to come back to normal on bikes then I will start this project. Cheers!
With the sc2 it puts the yzx well over the price of a new xc 250 tpi in oz. Love Yamaha but for the $$$ thinking xc tpi. Enjoying your vids all the same. Thank you.
The TPI is $10000. The YZ250x with smart carb is $8350. The suspension and simplicity of the YZ are very appealing to me too. The thing is you can find the YZ’s way cheaper used too, I got this bike with 1 hour on it for $5500 with half the extras that are on it. My total build cost on the bike including fully tuned suspension from Full Factory Offroad is $8600. On the KTM with the same mods I’d be around $13k. The KTMs are awesome bikes though I’m not trying to knock them, I just happened to find an amazing deal on this 250X and ran with it. And now it’s my favorite bike of all time, so I’m glad I did! They are definitely worth a look if you can live with the kick starter haha take care man!

Stock carb easy to jet for altitude with Apex jetting chart...
In CO and AZ I would regularly go +/- 6000 feet, so the smartcarb made a lot more sense and the Smartcarb team does not recommend a high comp head.
