Bonham just wakes some sort of primal feeling in me when he plays, he plays with such power and a heavy groove. Moon makes me feel like a wild man in a speeding car. He’s sloppy and precise at the same time. Bonham edges out my favor just because I discovered him first.
There is a resaon why Bonhams drums are sampled in Rap music and copied/mimicked in other forms of music, rock, etc. It's because he layed down the coolest beats and patterns of any rock drummer. That alone says it all. Those who say he wasn't fast with his hands are just showing the world how dumb they are with their lack of knowledge and familiarity with the Zeppelin catalog. Good Times bad Times, alone, changed rock drumming forever. He was 20 years okd when he recorded that song. Just the vision to put those parts/beats together and then execute it is an amazing accomplishment.
I agree with some comments here. Bonham would not have worked well with The Who nor Moon with Zepplin. But Moon’s larger than life personality and the fact that most drummers cannot emulate his style of playing (although Starkey comes somewhat close) Keith is my personal favorite.
Keith Moon was a fantastic drummer.... for the Who. The Who was unique, they're kind of the inverse of every other band in that the rhythm section is more like the lead and the guitar is more like the rhythm. I love Keith's playing, but in almost any other band, he'd sound like shit.

I don't like Keith Moon's style,I think he's overrated. With sincere respect with his fans, John Bonham was in another level. JB was much more sophisticated than him, he had jazz influences,R&B, funk, etc. Listen to the groove Bonham plays on No Quarter, both live in 1973 and the studio version. Listen to Rock N' Roll, Fool in the Rain, Good Times Bad Times, When the Levee Breaks. I'm sorry but there's no comparison. Keith Moon was a Rock N' Roll icon, legendary, but we're talking about John Bonham.
Would have paid extra to have heard Moon's version of Black Dog! Not a drum friendly song to begin with but brilliant with Bonham's ability. Moon would have been a joke!
Moon was a hard and fast banger. He never planned out a pattern. He just surrounded himself with lots of targets and went after them with ferocity. I don't think I ever heard him play even a shuffle. But he perfectly fit The Who's overall style. Bonzo was a musician and a technician. He could bang as hard and fast as any other rock drummer, but he had remarkable technique and stick control, and an amazing sense of what to put in and what to leave out. While I've only ever heard Moon play 4/4 in various tempos, Bonzo could play different signatures, developed a half time shuffle and of course he mastered triplets on his single kick using what was, at the time, the rather tedious Ludwig Speed King pedal. I could imagine Bonzo playing Moon's signature bit in Won't Get Fooled Again. I just can't see Moon doing justice to Moby Dick. Moon was absolutely great. But Bonzo was the GOAT.
I wud never argue about bonzo being a great great drummer but i wud argue that keith moon is the most unique and quirky style of drummer there has ever been.
I wouldn’t say no contest with anyone , i mean Neil Peart is easily the greatest rock drummer but overall I’d say Buddy Rich is even greater than Peart, Bonham and Moon put together. The man was a beast in technicality, power and speed.
Neil Peart, another one-hit-wonder. Great tom rolls, fascinating wood block work, lol. No soul, zero swing. He was the greatest drummer in Rush... which is all Neil was capable of.
I love the way he knew how to dress and fill the songs, tuned his drums, made very simple signatures thrive in a composition, synced / improv’d with the band, went gentle and went hard… Bonham was an absolute joy.
That last bit is Ozone Baby off Coda. it was not only Bonham's sound but his feel, the swing. No (and I mean no) other rock drummer was so fluid in his aggression. It's sad seeing Moon be such a joke here but like Peart, Moon had one style and nothing more. His studio work meticulously edited to make one complete track according to Townshend.

Really? You think it comes down to only these guys?
No, there are better classic rock drummers.
Definitivamente el mejor vaterista de todos los tiempos es Neil Perl
Would have paid extra to have heard Moon's version of Black Dog! Not a drum friendly song to begin with but brilliant with Bonham's ability. Moon would have been a joke!
Would have been better

The finesse, the raw power, the sense of groove, the technique, the creativity: John Bonham was all of this. Sorry, Moonie, but there's no contest.
Townsend and Entwistle both said . Moon " could not keep tme : that's why He played busy ,the way He did . No big giiee
Between these two the best drummer is Bill Ward.
Without a dout bohnam
totally different drummers...Ringo ok!
Bonham is the best...hands down! No contest with anyone!!
I wud never argue about bonzo being a great great drummer but i wud argue that keith moon is the most unique and quirky style of drummer there has ever been.
Without a question. But you have to remove Bonham from the equation because nobody is even in the same ballpark with Bonham. Nobody!
I wouldn’t say no contest with anyone , i mean Neil Peart is easily the greatest rock drummer but overall I’d say Buddy Rich is even greater than Peart, Bonham and Moon put together. The man was a beast in technicality, power and speed.
Bonzo Forever
Neil Peart, another one-hit-wonder. Great tom rolls, fascinating wood block work, lol. No soul, zero swing. He was the greatest drummer in Rush... which is all Neil was capable of.
Neil peart r.i.p was the best 👌
I love the way he knew how to dress and fill the songs, tuned his drums, made very simple signatures thrive in a composition, synced / improv’d with the band, went gentle and went hard… Bonham was an absolute joy.
That last bit is Ozone Baby off Coda. it was not only Bonham's sound but his feel, the swing. No (and I mean no) other rock drummer was so fluid in his aggression. It's sad seeing Moon be such a joke here but like Peart, Moon had one style and nothing more. His studio work meticulously edited to make one complete track according to Townshend.
Townshend is a known exaggerator and liar.
Bonham couldn’t do 1/2 of what Peart could do on a drumset.
@@LudwigHollywood66 You did it! The perfect cut 'n' paste angry Rush fan response. What exactly did Peart do that's so brilliant? The same stiff tom roll for 50 years,?
@@amess0stuff89 you’re obviously just a hater so why even bother debating with you. You’re right and everyone else is wrong about Peart, there are ya happy now.
@@amess0stuff89 By the way, Moby Dick was about 5 minutes of triplets that I could play in my sleep.
