Music lovers. In case you ever hear or see the word “groove” in reference to music, this is what they’re talking about.

The drums fills at 0:36 and 1:16 are played so identically, that they nearly perfectly phase out when synced up. It's not exact, there are subtle variations in tempo, but if you sync only a corresponding pair of snare or tom hits, the way the phasing jumps around is a dead giveaway to my ears that this is digital, not even an organic recording. This also sounds like a fully mic'd up kit, with room mics for reverb. Jimmy had the producing chops to do this, but there's no indication they were recording anything multitrack like this in Clearwell Castle, unless this was a "warm-up" for producer Jimmy as well. My hunch is that this was meticulously sequenced in MIDI software with a virtual instrument pack like Addictive Drums or something. It takes a ton of time and effort to add this level of subtlety and nuance to MIDI, so this was clearly someone's passion project. It's quite impressive regardless.

The way he lets them breathe has always astounded me. He treated the kit like it was a living organism. I guess now that I think about it, the kit was just an inanimate object until he brought them to life. So….i guess you could say he was god of drums! 😊

What's there not to love?

Some might say “His drumming sounds so simple, I bet I could do that!!” The simple answer is: No. No you can’t do that.. If it was so so easy, millions of drummers would be famous for doing what he does. But they can’t. It’s not just a matter of playing “the drum parts”, but it’s a lot more complex than that. He’s playing without a click track, and he’s not playing exactly on the beat like a metronome. He hits each drum a little behind the beat, a little ahead of it…but mostly a little behind the beat. that’s why he sounds much HEAVIER than any other drummer. Remember, that’s the just the simple answer why you or anyone else can’t mimic Bonham’s power, or mimic his heavier than heavy drum sound! My guess is that it’s at least partly genetic, too.. He was born that way He grew up in a blue collar neighborhood in a blue collar family in Birmingham. His father was a carpenter. Maybe that helped?

??? I do Not play drums. As a busking Guitarist I could play to his beats 24 7 / 365 .

I never considered Bonham to be an exceptional drummer. Many drummers, including an 8-year-old female drummer, can mimic him perfectly. Moon's drumming is far harder to replicate. Far harder to capture his energy. I saw Keith play four times with the Who. Mesmerizing. Unconventional. Unpredictable. Fast, powerful, loud, tight, loose, spontaneous, riveting, exciting. Moon in his prime was rock drumming. There was none better.

Some studio magic definitely going on here. guys are saying doubling but it's being off set by a couple of milliseconds in parts, you can definitely hear it. Sounds great though no doubt.

The isolation was awesome and informative but the visual was completely nonsensical. I wanted to watch him play his stuff. Hard fail on the visuals.

Not Bonham. New recording with reverb pumped up and made to sound similar to some of the isolated tracks from the In Through the Outdoor sessions. Good playing though nevertheless. But you can tell whoever is playing this doesn’t quite get the Bonzo feel down all the way. They came close, but no cigar.

Cole ..smh.. stupid Gobshite. He was a snake in the grass. I never believed anything he wrote in his books but, believed at the same time. Why would he lie. I never really liked Zeppelin. Zeppelin lV was a good record, but that's it. They were just a collage band, nothing more to them.. rock stars, not musicians.

Every song he played had a bit of a shuffle swing feel, not sure if it was effect or just him playing, everything had a shaker feel happening, you also notice this in a lot of chuck berry records

People always talk about Levee and Rock and Roll but somehow forget about Poor Tom. Bonham for over 3 minutes keeps the beat. No loops, no faults. That to me is the epitome of rhythm and timing.

come on now The Who needed Moon and Led Zeppelin needed Bonham ! John's son Jason plays like John and Many young drummers can play the drums like John did note for note ... but no one has been able to play the drums exactly like Moon did !
