I remember visiting Sequoyah Caverns back in the 1980s, but alas, the landowner seems to have closed that particular site. I'll have to check these out, when I can! This is an easy day trip from where I live (Madison County). Thanks!

You're going to enjoy it very much. I used to live in Madison too. It was a great place to raise my children. They have one of the best school system in the state of Alabama. In fact they was one of the first city school to develop their own board of education. This allowed them to teach the students oh a higher level. Each graduating class received millions in scholarship. Bob Jones High School ranks very high on a national level.

I remember when the state took over the property from the previous owner who was an elderly man. I forgotten his name. The state turned it into a state park attraction. The plans for it was to keep everything natural such as the bridge and walk ways. Installed lights and the concrete had to be brought in on wheelbarrows because you can't used combustion machineries. Then we had to build a road for the park and the entrance has stone work which goes with the theme of the park. We finished the project around August 2000. No matter how hot it would be outside the cave remàined 60° all year round. It's a beautiful place to take the family. It's in the Grant area. If you live in Madison it better to take Hwy. 72 like going to Stevenson, Alabama. But take the county road to Grant. BTW, I used to live in Madison and my children are graduates of Bob Jones High School. Madison is a great place to live, work and raise a family. It's a beautiful place with luxury homes.
Also it's another man made cave off of 431 South in the Honeycomb area. But because of the younger people hanging out and vandalism huge boulders was put in place to keep people out. It was built during World War ll, to store supplies and a safe haven is what I was told.

My dad used to work in the cave when he was 16. Used to drive by it every day on my way to work.

This is such a beautiful cavern! The simulacra in the stalagmites and stalactites are beautiful. I like how the cave’s mouth is so tall and wide like a fish-and that it has a fossilized shark tooth way up there that is visible with a flashlight. 🦈 🔦
